Mokhai motions for Lila to hop in next, and the dexterous lady does. The half-orc starts to untie the rowboat's mooring rope, giving Richter time to board in the meantime.

Mokhai looks around again before waving the boat people forward. He whispers to Iorskan and Malek to hold off on swimming back to shore until the rowboat's away.

"Fair enough," Mokhai replies to Richter. "If we head straight for the rowboat, root hard for that spider thing; I'm guessing if Vark and his men win, we'll have to dodge a hail or two of crossbow bolts as we make our way back to the dock."

"Might also be that the choice'll be made for us before we reach our boat," the half-orc adds in a hoarse whisper. "Let's head for it and see what we find."

Lila grins and nods at Nayala's suggestion.

Easy-Peasy!

She's following Nayala to the door when Mokhai again reaches out a hand, grabs the back of her belt, and stops the impulsive teen in her tracks.

"We could do that, and be done with Lady Vanderboren's mission" the half-orc says, "or we could look forward a bit. If we just leave now, Vark still has her ship...or there's a giant murder-beast loose upon it. Neither is very good for her future prospects. What we might do is wait to see whether Vark and his men or the spider emerges victorious...and then eliminate the surviving side as well. Then Lady Vanderboren's got her boat back, no strings attached. She might even give us a bonus for such good work."

Lila glares at her grabby comrade but then thinks things through a bit more thoroughly.

"Might not hurt to have a grateful noble on your side, starting out in a new city and all...." The half-orc gives a toothy grin as he sees his words sinking in, at least with Lila.

That said, a battle might not be great right now. Iorskan and Malek haven't posted in over a month, so we might not want to count on (or wait for) their actions if a big fight breaks out.

"Here--help me keep watch," Mokhai growls before pulling Lila back into the previous room, leaving the door open behind him.

"This is going well...too well. We need to stay ready; things could still take a turn for the worse."

The big guy rolls his eyes when Lila almost immediately loses focus and stares at a big bug crawling along the floor in the far corner of the room.

Lila the Black Perception Check (Aid Another--Mokhai): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 FAIL! (Again!)

Mokhai Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

"Spread out and look for the ring...and Lady Vanderboren's stolen docking fee," Mokhai growls. "Maybe we can be out of here before our presence is even noted."

Mokhai checks one bed (including underneath it) while Lila searches the second.

Mokhai Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Mokhai scowls and moves to the south door, Lila trailing the big half-orc like a shadow as they listen outside the door.

Lila the Black Perception Check (Aid Another--Mokhai): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 SUCCESS!

Mokhai Perception Check (AA): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27

Mokhai steps lightly to the western door, positioning his ear close to it while listening for any sounds from beyond it. To his annoyance, Lila slides up next to him and does the same.

Lila the Black Perception Check (Aid Another--Mokhai): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 FAILURE!

Mokhai follows a step behind Nayala, whispering for Lila to keep the light sources in the back of the party. The young bard nods her assent, her good eye darting back to the hold door for a moment as a fresh scream is emitted beyond it.

Mokhai Stealth Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

I'll try to keep my dice rolls in A-B-C order (Lila then Mokhai) as much as possible, to avoid the appearance of shenanigans. Still no word from him, BTW.

Looks like I can roll one; not sure I can make one!

Profession (sailor): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

No scowl for Nayala this time; Mokhai simply nods at her brutal but effective assessment and motions for the others to rejoin Lila by the stairs. He provides rearguard in case the rampaging arachnid turns its slaughter in the party's direction.

Mokhai scowls a bit at Nayala before ultimately nodding and moving forward with her. Lila stays to the back for now, keeping watch at the rear of the party.

Mokhai Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Lila the Black Perception Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Mokhai follows directly behind Nayala, eyes darting to and fro for danger. Lila takes rearguard, trying her one-eyed best to look out for trouble as well.

Mokhai nods at Nayala and prepares to lead the raiding party below. First, though, he scowls at Lila and motions with his head toward Nayala and her new weapon, then toward Lila, and lastly to the second fallen guard. Lila scurries over to the man and likewise claims a crossbow, loading it.

Mokhai will take point.

Mokhai nods to Nayala before gesturing for Lila to try to stabilize the fallen guards. With a jagged ax in hand, the muscular half-orc stalks with Nayala toward the door leading to the hold.

Lila glowers a bit but does as ordered, knowing fighting's not her forte. Healing, however, is one of her strengths...usually.

Mokhai follows Lila up the ladder and prepares to draw his weapon while telling the smaller bard to get behind him.

"Sounds good," Mokhai growls softly as he pulls in the rowboat's oars. "Also a bit late," he adds with a nod toward Nayala, who's already on the ladder.

Mokhai makes eye contact with Richter, wondering when he's planning on springing his aforementioned 'trick' on the guards. He glowers a bit as Nayala starts up the ladder and Lila prepares to follow after.

Sorry for the delay; I somehow missed that Richter wanted to discuss next moves with Mokhai. He's still incommunicado after a death in his family, so I'll run his PC for the next little bit; hopefully, he'll be back sooner rather than later.
