Background:
Living in the village of Rundin, located in the southern reaches of Brevoy, Mim has been among the humans of this quaint village for longer than many of the residents that make up the populace. In fact, only the older people of the village recall how the strange dwarf came to live among their number. Born in Brunderton, Mim's family came from a long line of miners, whose ancestors came from other areas of Avistan to exploit the vast resources that could be found in Brevoy. When he was still rather young, around 20 years of age, his family traveled into the Stolen Lands to see about establishing the first dwarven held mine in the untamed lands. Unfortunately, that expedition ended when it was beset upon by bandits. After a brief scuffle, the dwarven miners were allowed to live if they handed over their supplies. Now with nothing to work with and many injured, the small dwarven family returned to Brevoy. The last few making it to Rundin, there they settled until they could make enough for the return trip to Brunderton. However, during his time living with the country folk, Mim took an interest in their simple lifestyle. Helping when he could, Mim, with his dwarven heartiness and resolve, quickly took to the life of a farmer. Then, as his skills grew, so to did his interest in the natural world where the spoils of his labor came from. As the years past, his family started to doubt Mim's desire to return to their home and, letting Mim find his own path, left for Brunderton without him.
Though for many years considered an outsider, Mim's focused effort in learning to commune with nature helped him to form a bond with an wild bear which he had found injured near Rundin's outskirts. Raising it on his own, he finally had a friend he could confide in that wouldn't judge him for being a dwarf. Then, deciding to convince the rest of the village that he was just as useful as anyone else, he devoted his growing talent to helping the village prosper. Now, twenty years later, after helping to protect the village from minor bandit attacks and helping the fields stay clean and well-tended, Mim has decided to leave his new home to head back into the Stolen Land, with a charter from the Swordlords in hand, to push the bandits away and clear the untamed land of any threats that would harm the hard working men and women that called Brevoy home. Personality:
Direct and to the point, Mim still keeps a few of the classic characteristics that define a dwarf. However, his gruff personality is often smoothed over by a calm smile and tempered by his love of nature, something he hadn't possessed until his time spent living in the southern reaches of Brevoy. He can be quite peculiar at times and surprisingly quiet when needed. When he does get into combat however, he is fond of swinging his staff about like a giant club and often shouts 'Shalala' in his thick dwarven accent when he does. He doesn't trust folk from the cities to the north and views many nobles with contempt. He would rather live a simple life among those of his village, surrounded by rolling hills and vast forests, then be forced to mingle with the high-class, rather deceptive personalities that make up Brevoy's nobility. He is always willing to help out and often uses his connection with nature to ask animals to assist with the farm work. One peculiarity that Mim does not share with other druids, whether is is due to his height or his affinity with the the earth and ground creatures, Mim has an unreasonable aversion to heights and flying creatures, both natural and unnatural. Indeed, though Mim is rather confident when facing down a angered bear or wary elk, he is more likely to hide under a log from a passing sparrow than pay it no mind. Description:
Decked out in an odd assortment of feathers that adorn the bands that hold his twig encrusted beard in two neat braids and the deerskin hide shirt that covers his body, Mim automatically stands out as not being your average dwarf. An old heavy pick of obvious dwarven make is tucked into his belt, however, it doesn't look like it has seen much use, and a weathered oaken quarterstaff is held in the dwarf's meaty hands. A small smile can often be seen on the young dwarf's face. The dwarf often looks about, his eyes wandering to the sky with a slight expression or wariness. Whether this fixation with the sky comes form his knowledge of the weather or form some other sense of caution...it is uncertain. |
