However, the Monk aside, I am thinking that my other character idea would probably be the better fit overall. He is a Human URogue with the Charlatan archetype.
His basic mindset is that money talks, it is security, and it can be used to fight wars in your stead. So one of his top goals is the acumulation of wealth.
I will most likely focus just on the Rogue Merchant and not the Monk as I do not have much time left.
I will post up what I have gotten for him so far sometime tomorrow :)
Quick question: can I take the Additional Traits feat for moar awesome traits?
"Rich people see opportunities. Poor people see obstacles. Rich people see potential growth. Poor people see potential loss. Rich people focus on rewards. Poor people focus on the risks."
Basic Background wrote:
He is a minor merchant within Isarn of little note, yet he desperately seeks to elevate himself and gain prestige and wealth. He is unlike the majority of other merchants, tradespeoples and men of afluence who only see Galts current state of affairs and its degradation, with many of those people choosing to simply opt out and leave Isarn altogether for greener pastures. No, he believes in the old addage:
"Rich people see opportunities. Poor people see obstacles. Rich people see potential growth. Poor people see potential loss. Rich people focus on rewards. Poor people focus on the risks."
He sees the current turmoil and state of afairs within Isarn and does not see it as a revolution-torn city in decline, but as a once-in-a-lifetime golden oppertunity on the cusp of happening and he is doing everything he can in preparation to make sure he gets his slice of the pie, and the biggest slice at that. And the shortest path to that dream, the one with the biggest payoff is to use his wealth and assets to back this small Resistance movement. After all, if this group ever actually manages to get into power then the return on this investment would be unfathomable!
"But Cameron!" you ask, "Arn't you basically an NPC? Why would they pick you for missions?"
Good question, I am glad you asked :) While it is true that I would be using a lot of my assets to back or finance the group, he is also very modivated to get his elbows dirty and get in the thick of the plots. After all, the greater his contrabution, the greater his expected return! Additionally, it must be said about my player adjency. I, the player desire for him to take part in the different schemes and plots that we might be doing, even if it is uncomfortable or out of characfer for the character. Similarly, while the character is modivated by money, I the player doesn't want to betray the group or join the "dark side," even if someone tries to bribe him or something. He will decide to remain loyal to his investment. Simple as that. I the player dictate how my character acts, the character or personality I wrote for my him however, do not dictate my own actions.
I would not normally write that but my character does stray into NPC territory and he is modivated by greed, which for some people seems to superseed and bind their own will (ironically). So I am laying this expectation down from the start.
As for the character himself, he will have the Rumormonger and Black Market Connections Talents which will give him some fun tools to interact with the world.
He will also have either the Historian of the Red Revolution or the Local Buisness Owner Campaign trait.
The Historian trait would be fun and thematic as in his mind Knowledge is Power, and knowledge itself can be a form of trade, with the right sort of people being willing to pay an extreme amount of money for the right sort of information >:D
The Business Owner trait would also be a fun trait as I am a merchant and I intend to have a business! I don't yet know how BIG of a business it will be, but I will have one >:)
Additionally, money talks. He will be aiming to be as shrewed and clever with his money as he can be. If he thinks he can pay off an official or hire a bodyguard or even hire a chef to cook for him, he will. If at all possible money will be his weapon and he WILL do everything he can to make a little bit more. He will still be generous however. Quite a lot actually. He understands the value of an investment, the power of a bribe and the usefulness of a flattering gift, and especially how the appearance of generosity can ingraciate oneself with others.
