About Merisel Sarven
Merisel Sarven was raised in the River Kingdoms by her respected herbalist mother and retired adventurer father. Her mother taught her about the natural and spirit worlds, as well as which herbs cured or induced sickness. Her father entertained her with tales of his exploits. He also taught her sword fighting, and archery, including how to make her own bow and arrows.
While growing up, she enjoyed exploring the forests and rivers, and interacting with the other humanoids and animals who lived there. She learned much about nature, including the Sylvan language, from the original forest inhabitants. She also especially liked visiting the gnomes. Their happy-go-lucky quickness greatly contrasted with the thoughtful and careworn elves.
The elders warned her against the humans who squabbled over which lordling owned the land, as if the land could be owned! Those territorial battles caused her people to move frequently, abandoning their homes and tended gardens. There were many times when her hunting and foraging skills fed her tribe. Eventually, one of the warbands killed her family and most of her people while she was away hunting.
With nothing left to tie her there, she left her home forests to explore the world. She has journeyed to Absalom to become a Pathfinder, like her father. She holds no grudges against humans, as she firmly believes that individuals can choose to be good or evil in all situations.
Ranger's Focus: At 1st level, once per day, the guide can focus on a single enemy within line of sight as a swift action. That creature remains the Ranger’s focus until it is reduced to 0 or fewer hit points or surrenders, or until the Ranger designates a new focus, whichever occurs first. The Ranger gains a +2 bonus on attack and damage rolls against the target of his focus. At 5th level, and every five levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +2. At 4th level, and every 3 levels thereafter, the Ranger can use this ability one additional time per day. This ability replaces favored enemy.
