Character ideas:

Melira is not a particularly subtle person. She is ambitious, stubborn, and headstrong.

Melira has something of an anti-establishment streak. Traditional structures of power have often worked against her.

An educated scholar, Melira has a strong interest in personally conducting independent research. As she knows, real scholarship is more about motivation, dedication, and communication than it is about intelligence.

As a young half-elf, Melira had a couple of different friend groups. But her childhood friends were either of a race that matured at a different speed from her, or else lacked her mix of ambition and determination. She has few close friends from childhood.

As a dyslexic person, Melira has faced some difficulties at the academy. The wizard Saendithas helped her through some tough assignments. At first he did it because he liked the challenge, but he later came to see Melira as his friend. She saw him as a bit arrogant and at times unpleasant, but mostly as a nice person who she could trust.

NPC Corrin:

Corrin is an idealistic human who has had a long but fairly uneventful career as an adventurer. He met Melira when they were both young, having grown up in the same part of town and among similar groups of friends. Oddly enough, it was Melira spending less time with their group of friends, as she began spending more time at the academy, that led to Corrin pursuing her romantically. They had a substantial relationship for the better part of a year, before Corrin was called away to fight for distant relatives.
After that, he would return to town from time to time, but could never stay for long. Once he had learned to fight, he had resolved to stand for those who could not save themselves from the dark things that lurked in the corners of the world. After just a few years, his frail human body began to show signs of age, which shocked Melira. It’s now been some time since she’s seen him, and she worries that he’ll be getting too old for his line of work before much longer. She hopes she’ll meet him in her travels one day, but is also afraid that she’ll find him long past his prime.
