For your consideration, I'd like to put forward Maurice as a potential character! Maurice is a Mindblade, which is one of the new Magus archetypes from the Occult Adventures book. As it's fairly new material, I'd be glad to explain the ins and outs of the archetype, but it's fairly straightforward. The meat of it really seems to be that the mindblade can use their arcane pool (or "psychic pool" for the archetype) to manifest weapons of their choosing. The type of weapon changes how many pool points it costs, but they're always considered magical (obviously, since they can't be permanently masterworked or enchanted). As the mindblade gains levels, s/he gains the ability to apply different melee weapon special abilities by spending more pool points, just the same as a normal magus. In return, they lose out on things like medium/heavy armor, spell recall, ect. All in all, it seems very interesting to me!

With the crunch all in the alias, let's move onto the fluffy stuff. While most certainly possessing of a brilliant mind, Maurice was on the verge of dropping out of university when he first saw Professor Lorrimor. The difficulty with his studies was not an inability to learn. Quite the contrary, he took to the material like wildfire, but struggled to grasp the fundamentals. Rather than drawing magic from the world around him, much of Maurice's ability came from within his own mind. As a result, there were startlingly few professors learned in such ways that could mentor him on the best way to combat his difficulties.

The famous professor was giving a speech about magical theory and practical application; a topic that thoroughly enthralled Maurice. After the dissertation, he waited among many other individuals for a moment to speak with Lorrimor. Though their discussion was brief, the tiefling was inspired by his new mentor's words and thanked him profusely. It was because of the professor's kindness and assistance, he later wrote in a letter to the man himself, that he was able to find the drive to finish his schooling at all. Heartened by such sentiments, the pair exchanged letters periodically over the next few years to better keep in touch and reveal breakthroughs in their fields. News of the professor's death was far from gladly received, but Maurice felt he owed it to his mentor to pay his final respects.
