So my lovely wife and I love to look at the advance races guide and wonder about crossbreeds, we love making them, no matter how outlandish, but we never bother to... literally try to use the point system to make them. Mostly because the wife loves to be artist, not mathematical, and I do not blame her one second.

But, in this thread, not following the rules to tightly. What crossbreeds could be made, what kind of features would make them unique?

Like the two I believe are the biggest thing, a half breed from a aasimar and a tiefling. Forgoing the celestial and fiendish block there, mostly due to humans being great breeding cattle apparently (And yes, I know it can be done with others, but humans are a great base). The other, the breeding of an Elf and an Orc, just think on that one!

But what others? A goblin and a gnome?

So why not, just for fun, we play with this and make things in our spare time!

Remember, just for fun, no posts about we don't need it. Just pick up ANY TWO CREATURES, and plug it in!

And if these work out well, I may see about playing them myself just for a fun time.

M Human 20 samurai

I have posted the start! It has begun! Sorry for the awful wait!

M Human 20 samurai

Arizona time with a third shift job, yippy....

M Human 20 samurai

It would mostly be in the later parts of the day when I will really be able to devote to it, so its not too bad, I just hope you can all be patient with me.

Okay, after much consideration, I have decided to be adventurous (haha) and take the extra trait and ensuing drawback.

So, I have taken the Relic Hunter trait, giving me the following:

You have made a study of ancient lands and ruins and are familiar with relics and artifacts their inhabitants left behind.

Benefit(s): You gain a +1 trait bonus on Appraise and Knowledge (history) checks made to examine ruined buildings more than 1,000 years old as well as any ruined objects found in them. If such an item is magical, you gain a +1 trait bonus on Spellcraft checks to identify its properties and Use Magical Device checks to activate it.

And the Pride drawback:

You can’t abide challenges to your dignity, authority, or honor.

Effect: When someone threatens, accuses, or challenges you, you take a –2 penalty on Diplomacy checks and Sense Motive checks involving that creature until the creature apologizes to you.

I might as well get my feet wet in this drawback caper. ;)

Very nice!

Finn has his own character flaws, I don't see a drawback that express them quite right. As such, I'd prefer to play it straight up without one (if you change your mind and require it, I'll figure something out).

No fears my lucky friend, optional it shall stay.

I chose Forgetful-

You are easily distracted and prone to forgetting important things.

Effect: Whenever you leave a location you have been at for longer than 1 hour, you must attempt a DC 10 Wisdom check. If you fail, you leave behind one random mundane item (a purse of money counts as an item).

It fits my amnesia. Unfortunately I'm a sorcerer with a 10 wisdom lol, so there's a 50% chance I lose something every time I stop somewhere for an hour

wow, okay, I will not abuse that.

M Human 20 samurai

You are indeed. I have debated on using it as well. I don't know.

M Human 20 samurai

I'm as flexible as catwoman, no fears!

M Human 20 samurai

It does allow that lovely additional. So I'll play it this way, it will stay optional. Those who do, great, those who don't want to, also great. I know a lot of people don't because I've been told GM abuse on it, but I am not like that. So its fine with what ever is chosen.

M Human 20 samurai

All right, just allows additional GM tools for me to work with your characters.

M Human 20 samurai

Hmmm... would everyone feel comfortable doing so, or would you all rather not?

M Human 20 samurai

Also, I know some did, but could I get a drawback from everyone?

M Human 20 samurai

That's fine, thank you for your patience. I'll try to have it started as soon as I get the time to devote myself to it.

M Human 20 samurai

The game play thread is open for dotting! I'll get the opening as fast as I can, but detailed!

We have a Discussion thread!

M Human 20 samurai

Sorry for the wait for the Gameplay thread, I have to get a chance for time to write it up. I will try to get it up as soon as I can.

M Human 20 samurai

Well, playing with things, I have found the discussion button to get a discussion thread for this game. As I fifure this is for all out random chat needs! So let's have fun!

Sorry KyleS, I wish I could have a huge group, but it would be very difficult. But maybe next time.

so the slot fills from the hat are.... *drum roll*
1. Lera
2. Trustrike
3. Emilio
4. Finn
5. Allie

Thank you to those who applied in. If there ends up being an opening again and you are willing I'll message you. Or advise its open again if you are not. For those selected, message me and lets talk deeper in the characters, as I want to really bring them into this world.

THANK YOU AGAIN!
When I get the chance I will get the campaign thread started.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannd closed! Don't worry Sohar, you will be given a fair chance in the pool! Now to get the names, gotta get home first and I'll let you all know the five slots filled!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Eh, the Fighter class works well enough for me. A Fighter specializing in archery is a perfectly effective party member. Grab Iron Will, maybe Half-Elf, Clustered Shots, other archery feats, you're set.

NB that this claim *in no way* depends on whether or not some other class may be better, slightly or significantly.

I haven't played a melee Fighter before, but I suspect I'd find the same thing.

Don't need to be the very very best to be workable and enjoyable. :-)

Of a kindred mind good sir, +1

I've never played a monk, archetyped or otherwise. But this looks like it's just taken the monk's more effective class features and backed it up with the "Best" aspects of a fighter.

Monk and Fighter are both classes with deep-seated problems. Monk has identity and schizophrenia issues where it keeps trying to be four different classes at once and dropping the ball on all of them. Fighter practically cannot participate in the game outside of combat, and in combat struggles against a large number of very classic enemies such as devils, golems, gargoyles, and big-ass dinosaurs.

Melding the best of the two together probably won't produce anything as effective as, say, Magus or Paladin. But it's not going to hurt anything that isn't already wounded beyond saving.

That made me tear up a bit...but at least the fighter and the monk have archetypes that saves them from some of those design flaws, rogues don't even have that.

Maybe so, but rogue was my starting class back in 3.5... I love it so and gladly would play it as is if my wife didn't literally claim it like the one ring, hehe, but it was her's too so I understand the feels.

I think the book will have archetypes that give martial flexibility to fighters and monks.

I was always excited about the Brawler, it was much closer to my personal image of a martial artist than the more mystical monk. Awesome blow being useful against humanoid opponents rather than monstrous ones hardly bothered me, but perhaps they've altered it so you can suplex a train in the final version?

Also my character sheet is going to call Martial Flexibility "Blitz".

Suddenly lamenting I didn't name my Mythic Tetori "Sabin".
I dunno man. Could he live up to the name? I bet trains have a really high CMD.
Well a tank has pretty low CMD, and really, if you were Sabin, you would only be suplexing the front car. Besides, that poor engine car wasn't even immune to Phoenix Down, so you could one-hit it!

Ha! Too true. Slaying major undead with phoenix feathers and potions is the best thing. If that worked in Golarion, a lot of major problems could get solved by peasants.

@Rynjin: I take back my words. You can suplex whatever you want man.

Serious response: Problem is that the 18 is a CMD modifier. Vehicles add their driver's check modifier to that 18. So Craft (Alchemy) or Knowledge (Engineering) in a mechanical vehicle's case. That CMD could get pretty crazy.

True, but it's easier than a tarrasque!

Only if they put in the right commands.

All right, final stretch, two hours. Once my work shift is done, I will have the selected players to start us through. I am giddy with excitement.

I will allow it, and I am thankful for how many are applying for this, it makes feel blessed beyond measure, and sad at the same time that I can only take five. I know people some times drop out so there are always a chance. I would like the group to stay, but there is life, I know it well. A cruel mistress. But thank you all for this, we are almost time for the pickings.

Thought I'd add a backstory. Kinda. Hope you don't mind a few liberties taken with names and locations. And he really does have a Holy Symbol in his inventory, he just never has any use for it.

I like it, you give me things to use in the campaign.

SinBlade06 wrote:

I know nothing about Sandpoint or the RotRL module/adventure path/whatever. If that hinders my options of being chosen, I'm ok with that.

If I am not included, that is ok by me. Perhaps keep me as a replacement or something?

If I need to submit a character background or backstory, I can.

It does not, the only reason I would not place someone in the pool to join us on our grand adventure is if they were seriously being a jerk. Everyone gets a chance. If you don't know, that just means you get something new to explore and experience!

I am in so much love, right here, right now. I hope to really enjoy this class when its finally out. Monks always bothered me, but this... this is the answer I've been waiting for! I hope for thursdays iconic to be a total BA.

DoubleGold wrote:

I still have some ideas to present. I have two I'm going to submit 2 and I'll let you which one gets into the pool.

also the inquistor I'm submitting has 14 int and with 9 skills per level after adding in favored class bonus can be labeled healer or skills monkey. Especially since they get so many class skills.

That's great! Make it so!

All are so good, I am happy with all who put in for this campaign, and hope I can deliver to yu a great time. Recruitment will be closed in exactly 12 hours from now, or if I feel it should be sooner or shall be. But at the moment, 12 hours. Good luck to all!

In addition to healing and divine casting he has the Luck and Chaos domains, which allow him to manipulate the luck of others to his benefit.

Finn has a hard time reconciling himself as a man of the cloth, and still wants to have that roguish good time he used to live. Shouldn't be your run of the mill cleric.

If you've already promised the slot and I missed it, i understand. Have fun with your first foray. As an experienced PBP GM, if you need a hand with anything, just shout!

Well if it's really to be drawn at random, then Finn has a distinct advantage with his Touch of Luck and Touch of Chaos ability. I feel pretty good about his chances...

I am quite serious about it, so he certainly should!

Tomorrow night, give plenty time for a good few to throw themselves into the hat. Thank you for asking, still learning, hehe.

I submitted a sorcerer yesterday as well, TruStrike

True, I need to pick from that pool as well. Picking character out of all these is hard... but I'll figure a way! Draw out of a hat if I must!

Uh, did I miss something?

Was Emilio Cross included in this list? Am I considered the tank/damage magnet? Barbarian with a greataxe!

If you're looking for a backstory, I can whip something up in my free time. Give me a deadline and it'll be done before then.

He is indeed in the fighter pool I must select from. I will have to find a way to make my choice there. But no worries.

I welcome this, sorry its bland, but its a formula that works for the GM and players.

Forgive me, Jimibones... I have BAD experiences with psionics. So I steadfastly refuse them in my games. My apologizes.

I'm doimg the same at my own work currently Lera, from my nook with internet sharing on my phone, allows me to keep updated on my lovely thread, I may not be able to post quickly during the time, but I will see all! (Queue thunder!)

Okay, so I figure to make things easier, I suppose I should state a gist of what I am looking for! Still learning some things, so I apologize for my novice errors.

1. A tank! Needed to have something to take the hits and dish it back.
2. A healer! As long as it can heal well and keep the party going, its good!
3. Skill monkey! Adventure paths like these usually need skills done, especially knowledge checks!
4. An power caster, full nine! Something to supply some power to the group!
5. And this is the slot that's open to relatively anything! But the first four are my concern!

Oh, I figure this is common knowledge, may be mistaken, but no evil characters.

If this works well, I'll do an evil campaign another time!

Utnapishtim wrote:

I'm interested, if you're still looking for players.

Will this be for PFS credit? (Even if not, I'm still interested.)

I'm flexible and willing to play any class or type that the party needs (melee, ranged, skill, arcane, divine).

I prefer to play NG aligned characters.

I am, trying to fill the slots up, and I apologize it is not for Credit. Just simple fun. And flexibility is very welcome here.

I do apologize, but they will not be available till its released, I am a lover of those two classes as well, but much can change after a play test, so a the moment no. But I am more than excited to have brothers join. It just depends on how the recruiting goes!

In about 4 days time you will usually have about 12 or more players submitting to a AP even if you were a new DM.

Like all DMs, you will have decisions to make as to who to get in and who to cut.

Thank your for this knowledge! Helping me grow as a DM here. Well I will let the requests arise and try to find a nice well rounded group, I want the group to be able to make it through as I hate TPKs. So I will look at what is offered and see what can be done.
