Church of Shelyn - Phedron:

..

Priest and Druid listen closely to the Andoran’s tale. The words regarding the cultists and their wounds prompts Malau to hold his head in his hands and tears to flow.

Lemay rests a hand on his shoulder and nods affirmative to Phedron. ”Ellison indeed had such a scar, a circular mark that never seemed to heal fully. But if what you say is true, perhaps in the end…”

”Ell wouldn’t a wanted any part o’ some kinda devilry, not mah brother, no…” Malau wipes away tears and presses himself up to a seated position, hands on his knees like flying buttresses holding up a weakened cathedral wall.

”And his drastic shift in personality, from one full of life to one devoid of it. Almost in a trance.” Lemay shakes his head in unbelief but can offer no other explanation. ”It has been a long time since our church has set foot in Demgazi. As part of the charter to any priest stationed in Golsifar, we are to make journey there at least once per year to attempt contact and to reconnect with the abandoned church there. My attempt was 4 months ago where upon I was firmly rebuffed at the palisades and forced to make my lodgings in Inspitah.”

If you have nothing else further…

At the end of their visit, Malau and Lemay both offer their best wishes on the party’s journey.

Let’s get the party reunited. Be sure to read the next post, you’re included in the group.

At the inquiry from Phedron, the man named Malau stumbles towards the half-elf cavalier and stammers out. ”Ellison, he came back with that long-gone stare. Like he no longer saw what was good and beautiful in this world.” The man pokes a finger at Phedron, a manic and warning tone in his words. ”Lost all interest in this world, he did. He had a connection to the land, a right good one. But he saw to it a noose was his home till Pharasma opens the gates to him. Don’t you go out east if you’ve got a head on your shoulders…”

The well dressed man slips forward to grasp the other’s shoulders as his knees weaken. Up close, Phedron notes the cologne of dusky aromas upon him that match the colorful mixes of greens and reds and yellows of his robes. He smiles down at this friend with pity, then looks up to Phedron. ”I am Lemay de Rosin, priest at the local house of Shelyn. This man is Malau…” He smiles painfully down at him. ”Ellison was his brother. He made regular journey into the Dirt Wilds, worked as a guide for one of Hittlebriar’s crews. Poor soul came back a month ago, different...less colorful. A week later, Ellison saw his own end over there…” He gestures to western edge of town where a copse of trees resides like a dark crown on a rise. ”Hittlebriar and the Wisterix Brothers have not told us what happened to Ellison on the road or out East, that would have impacted him so.”

Sobbing against his chest, Malau mutters, ”And they call me the Unwashed. These louts didn’t turn an eye to him, even though he’d been a good scout…”

”Look, good sir.” Lemay says gingerly. ”The evening draws closer and I’d like to see to my friend’s ease. Please, come by the church tomorrow morning and we can discuss the East. If you’re set upon traveling the road, perhaps you’ll be open to listening to our warnings.”

With that, he guides Malau towards the church. (marked on the map)

As Marsh and the others enter a discussion with Hittlebriar, Phedron slips to the other side of the crowd to listen in on the conversation of the two men. The finely dressed one is soothing the wild eyed man, the two not making a real effort to hide their words.

"There is nothing more you could have said, my friend."

"Never listen...never listen..." The wild-eyed mutters back, agitated. "Did they not learn from Ellison? How he looked? What happened?"

"My prayer is for reason to shine in them, Malau. But we cannot force wisdom upon others." the well dressed man, clutches at his robes with one hand and sighs. "Regretfully, some have to learn. Have you heard nothing from the Wildwood Lodge?"

Malau, the wild eyed man, shakes his head. "Nothing. But the silence is all I need to know to stay away from that place, Lemay."
