Lyda has only a moment to consider her surroundings and the...strangeness of it. The large plants, the new, vibrant smells, the fact that she went through a cave and found herself in a forest. This was not the land she started in. It didn't even feel like the same world. Lyda shook the cobwebs from her head and shouted, "The large one is controlling them. Aim for the thing on top." As she points at said thing, a brown blur shoots past her and leaps several feet to claw at the beast. Kasha? How is she here? What was...no focus. Shoot. Question later. Ignoring the strangeness of the situation, Lyda instinctively sends her loyal companion strength and follows the brown blur with a blur of arrows of her own.

Round 1:

Effects:
Gravity Bow: Bow damage 2d6, 7 min
Animal Focus Tiger: +2 Dex, 1 min
Spiderclimb: 20ft climb speed (50 with haste)

Kasha: Animal Focus Bull: +2 str, no limit

Kasha AC 20 uses Pounce + Distracting Charge
Bite: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 11 + 1 = 24
Damage Bite: 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 = 9
Grab: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
Rattling Strike: If this hits then the opponent is Shaken for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds.

Claw 1: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 1 = 17
Damage Claw 1: 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12

Claw 2: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 1 = 11
Damage Claw 2: 1d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 = 9

I don't know how rake is supposed to work here. Do I have two claws attacks usually or is that only if the grapple is successful? If the the former, do I get two more claw attacks as part of rake? Not sure. Also, I need a picture for Kasha.

Lyda uses ranged attack:
Attack 1+PB+DA+DC: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 - 2 + 2 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 6) + 7 = 19

Attack 2+PB+DA+DC: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 - 2 + 2 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 1) + 7 = 12

5ft step back. Swift: Apply Animal Focus to Kasha. Full Attack +2 from Distracting Charge. Normal Arrows.

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

Deneb: There is no negotiation skill. Do you mean diplomacy? Either way, I think it's obvious buff the heir first. I just want to know what kind of people Sarra and Tobias will be. Will Sarra consider herself heir or older sister first in such a situation? Will she protect herself because duty demands it or protect her brother? or possibly have a different idea? And is Tobias mature enough to know his sister should come first? Deneb has two castings so he will be applying it to both this and next round. Order will likely be moot. I really hope those things can't get to one of them within a round.

Lyda: Obviously I'd take note. The spoiler had her name on it. I don't know a lot of Latin. So I guess I will wait for a cue in the leader gameplay thread? Cause it hasn't reached them yet. Can I try and stealth closer at another point while it approaches?

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

In any other moment, Lyda would have been disappointed with herself for hesitating. When she ran through the open doors she had to skid to a stop before tumbling over edge of a cliff that should not have been there. Her hasted reflexes thankfully, beat her hasted speed. Then she saw the thing and her mind stopped for a moment. Thing was really the best description because nothing in this world was remotely close enough for her to define what she was seeing. While her mind tried to process it, or at least shut down the process to continue thinking, her instincts through her against what was left of a wall to hide. Adrenaline and fear increased her ability to analyze the situation 100 fold. But even then, the only conclusion she came to was that this was the thing controlling all the others. Or more specifically, the thing on top that looked like a Devourer. Wait...

Lyda took a closer look. It had a sword. And vambraces. And the remnant of clothing. That thing was a person at one point. Lyda didn't hesitate to follow. She probably couldn't kill it, or even slow it down, but maybe she could...well she wasn't sure. And she would never find out either. The falling and flinging rocks from it's excavation were easy to avoid but she could not follow without causing a small avalanche with almost every step. She'd be spotted and join the souls in that horrifying cage in it's chest. She shuddered at the thought and turned back. She had to find the leaders.

Round 7:

Stealth+Focus: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 1 = 17
Reflex+Haste+Focus: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 1 + 1 = 26 14 damage.

Failed the stealth but I am not sure what that means. I wasn't given options for failure. Not sure what NB and controlling source are either. Do I eventually join the Leaders or cohorts again?

Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23

This is to see if she can spy something about the clothing or weapon that might be a clue as to who they are...were. Don't have the knowledges most likely but if I can give a solid description to the right person, they might be able to figure it out.

Effects:
Haste (6/7): +1 to attack, +1 dodge bonus to AC, +1 dodge bonus to Reflex saves, +30 feet movement, 1 extra attack (at full BAB) during full attack.
Gravity Bow: Bow damage 2d6, 7 min
Animal Focus Tiger: +2 Dex, 1 min
Spiderclimb: 20ft climb speed (50 with haste)

Lyda recognized the little bead of light headed her way and ducked behind the table she was using for cover. She curled into as small a ball as possible to expose as little skin to the fire she knew was coming. A great conflagration burns her back and sets fire to many of the tables around her. She popped up to fire but paused. Besides the almost casual fireball, none of the creatures seemed too concerned with her...or any of the other leaders for that matter. And the way they moved? Lyda could attribute some confusion to lack of knowledge but these didn't seem like the kind of creatures to work so...well together. So coordinated.

Something is controlling them, she realizes. And one of the leaders mentioned something going on outside. Lyda looks at the door and knows that is not a way out. Webbing, rocks and bitty demons block the way. She turns and looks for a way out along the wall. A window maybe? "Erastil, bless me with a spider's agility." Now she could climb walls without difficulty. With all the haste left in her she planned to find the one guiding these monsters and put an end to them.

Round 6:

Ref vs fireball: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 31/2=15-5=10 fire damage.

Cast Spiderclimb and move (60 land, 50 climb) to the south wall looking for a window or other way out.

Effects:
Haste (5/7): +1 to attack, +1 dodge bonus to AC, +1 dodge bonus to Reflex saves, +30 feet movement, 1 extra attack (at full BAB) during full attack.
Gravity Bow: Bow damage 2d6, 7 min
Animal Focus Tiger: +2 Dex, 1 min
Spiderclimb: 20ft climb speed (50 with haste)

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

It probably wasn't a good idea to ignore the orders of the man she just pledged to but Lyda couldn't, in good conscience, let these monsters go without doing something. She had to try and reduce their number somehow. Rising from her table just enough to sight targets, Lyda let loose a stream of arrows, severally depleting her supply.

Round 4 and 5:

Staying put behind cover and taking two full attack actions. The first one will be against a Devourer. If that appears to be ineffectual, the next will be against trapped, or entangled Biters. Someone said cold iron so that will be the ammunition against them.

Attack 1+Deadly Aim+Haste+Animal Focus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Damage 1+Deadly Aim+Gravity Bow: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13

Attack 2+Deadly Aim+Haste+Animal Focus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Damage 2+Deadly Aim+Gravity Bow: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10

Haste Attack 3+Deadly Aim+Haste+Animal Focus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Haste Damage 3+Deadly Aim+Gravity Bow: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13

Effects:
Haste (4/7): +1 to attack, +1 dodge bonus to AC, +1 dodge bonus to Reflex saves, +30 feet movement, 1 extra attack (at full BAB) during full attack.
Gravity Bow: Bow damage 2d6
Animal Focus Tiger: +2 Dex

These will definitely be against the biters. That was awful. Cold Iron here.

Attack 1+Deadly Aim+Haste+Animal Focus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Damage 1+Deadly Aim+Gravity Bow: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13

Attack 2+Deadly Aim+Haste+Animal Focus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Damage 2+Deadly Aim+Gravity Bow: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17

Haste Attack 3+Deadly Aim+Haste+Animal Focus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Haste Damage 3+Deadly Aim+Gravity Bow: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11

Effects:
Haste (5/7): +1 to attack, +1 dodge bonus to AC, +1 dodge bonus to Reflex saves, +30 feet movement, 1 extra attack (at full BAB) during full attack.
Gravity Bow: Bow damage 2d6
Animal Focus Tiger: +2 Dex

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

"Erastil, bless my arrows with the weight of my conviction." Lyda continues to call to her god for aid in this perilous situation. The demonic looking creatures could easily dispel the spells she placed on them so she instead applied one to herself. She knocks an arrow as she moves forward to cover and feels it hum with power. Before taking a shot though, she focuses on an image in her mind, that of a tiger, graceful and swift, and pushes divine power towards it. Her eyes turn cat-like as the power envelops her, bringing the combat into sharper focus.

Round 3:

Move forward 10ft to duck behind table. Cast Gravity Bow. As swift, activate Animal Focus Tiger.

Effects:
Haste (2/7): +1 to attack, +1 dodge bonus to AC, +1 dodge bonus to Reflex saves, +30 feet movement, 1 extra attack (at full BAB) during full attack.
Gravity Bow: Bow damage 2d6
Animal Focus Tiger: +2 Dex
I believe current AC is 16 because she is without armor and magic items. 20 if table is full cover.

This is most likely dead so let's stop giving it CPR. It takes a month of zero posts for this to go inactive on its own. So let's wait. If the DM comes back, hurrah, if not, at least it isn't cluttering the campaign thread.

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

So...

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

I wait.

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

Lyda barely flinches as her spell collapses before the powerful, shrieking demons. Though she knew very little of them, she at least as much that the more powerful ones could cast spells. That or the spell would just fail to effect them. In this case though, it seemed they wanted to remove her's in particular. None of the others were effected. Her eyes widen as even more appear. Was someone, or something, summoning them?

Lyda takes a spare bow string from a pouch and bends her bow on the table to get it on. She then whistles loud, as only a master trainer could, and shouts over the panicked masses at the casters, "BREAK LINE OF SIGHT!" She then hopes off the table and heads for the king to cover his retreat as ordered.

Round 2:

Use standard to string bow and then move to G10. Calling for casters to break line of sight with fog, darkness, whatever. They specifically dispelled the sleet storm and think that is important.

Effects:
Haste (2/7): +1 to attack, +1 dodge bonus to AC, +1 dodge bonus to Reflex saves, +30 feet movement, 1 extra attack (at full BAB) during full attack.

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

To Selene: I can tell you what you will see outside. A Blizzard. I cast Sleet Storm centered outside so as to avoid getting our own caught in it. But you can't cast it there anyway cause the ability says they must have line of sight and effect. Sleet Storm blocks sight. However, should you go sooner in initiative, you can cast it but it will be useless after that first glimpse.

Hunter 7 | HP 39/63 | AC 20, Touch 15, FF 16 | CMB +6 | CMD 20 | Fort +7, Ref +10, Will +6 | Init +4 | Senses: Darkvision, Perception +13 Defenses: 5/fire/cold/elec | Hunter Spells: 1st 5/5, 2nd 4/4, 3rd 1/2 | Cohort: Deneb Flynvias

So we've got stone call, sleet storm, web, and glitterdust in effect. So the ground is loose and unstable pebbles with a layer of ice. High winds with sleet and glittering particles and webbing. Spider's Glittering Storm of Stony Chaos.

As a divine caster, I presumed Lyda to have always had her divine focus with her. Hm ... see general info above. I don't believe you can target a square 'around the corner'; correct me if I'm wrong. However, going by a line drawn from her past the door, she can drop the center on a target 3-4 squares back from the doors.

I thought that was supposed to be in the spell pouch, which I need anyway for the dust and water combo material component. Doesn't reduce the actions. As for 'around the corner', sure you can. Just gotta twist the focus to curve the shot. Kidding. I need line of effect. 3 spaces above F is actually perfect. I put a circle on the map to indicate this. It should not effect either guard since cylinders are blocked by obstructions. I think.

::Everyone::
I added a legend above the map for the spells, abilities and obstacles I could identify on the map.

Lyda vaults onto the table in front of her, knocking aside food and beverages, and points her holy symbol of the Old Deadeye at the open doors. "Erastil, curse my foe with the mountains fury." At her call, a fierce wind kicks up the snow from outside and pulls it into the dining hall. Sleet whips about the demons and slicks the ground making movement difficult.

Slight retcon of Round 1:

Acro: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Glad I put ranks into that. That's or getting on the table. What image do you want for the difficult terrain on the other side?

Sleet Storm - Driving sleet blocks all sight (even darkvision) within it and causes the ground in the area to be icy. A creature can walk within or through the area of sleet at half normal speed with a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Failure means it can’t move in that round, while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Acrobatics skill for details).

I actually want to the center to be off the map since the radius is 40 feet. That would get some of the cohorts and NPC's. Far enough outside to exclude them.

DM TWO: Need clarification on entangle. Prefer that over Sleet Storm I think. And also, what is the construction of the building if you don't mind. Wood timbers, stone, half and half? Would Shape Stone work if stone? Checking options here.

I think some people have missed it, but EVERYONE gets a full round action before the baddies enter. Then init happened and we all go first. So that's another full round action.

I guess since mythic specifically says "areas without any vegetation" you might be right. If that won't work then Sleet Storm. Doesn't say it can't be cast inside. Same size but DC 10 acro or they can't move all and line of sight is blocked.

Or if that doesn't work, just sting the bow.

Lyda reflexively grabs one of the paladins as they crumple from some unseen force. She had heard of this before. They were sensitive to evil and a significantly powerful one could render them impotent. She looks around for the threat but sees nothing but a dinning hall. That did not mean something wasn't hiding, invisible. She starts undoing the bonding on her spell pouch to get at her wooden figure of Erastil.

Then the doors burst open and all hell breaks loose (or all Abyss, she wasn't sure what was before her). She can only watch in horror as the creatures take their first victim. Hopefully she could stall them acquiring their next. She pushes to the front and hopes up on the dinner table, kicking food and drink all over the place. "Erastil curse my foes with plague and vine." She calls out her prayer and points the focus at the group of evil creatures. The focus glows green along with the area they stand. Vines erupt from between stone from the wooden beams and supports to entangle the beasts.

OOC:
If I have this right, I can use a full round action before they burst in to undo her spell component pouch which should have her divine focus. Then, in the real first round, she moves 20' forward to i14. Then casts Sickening Entangle DC 15 ref. DC 15 Fort after that if they stick around or are stuck. Poison effect so the devourers aren't effected at least. Targeting is an issue. 40' radius spell. Can I target off map a bit? Don't want to get Milo. Only baddies.

Hilarious image of a large cat and bird comically gagged and tied up behind Lyda and Deneb. Their companions are their weapons. After that, Lyda's bow and Deneb's component pouch. I think Druids have component pouches.

I think we can all agree the KKK, neo-nazi's and west borough baptist church are bad people. So a better comparison for a Tiefling would be the child of one of these groups and for some odd reason always carried physical proof of that. Hood, swastika, anti-gay t-shirt. I think most people would, at the very least, feel uneasy speaking to these people even if they seem perfectly pleasant. Others might not even give them the time of day or become belligerent. That's what I think Tieflings are. Their very appearance elicits a negative response in most.

And I have mentioned it in game. I get that most adventurers have seen a lot and aren't usually judgmental but if you pick a weird race and don't get some RP potential from it then its just a mechanical choice. You're one of gang almost immediately and its little bit of a let down.

Lyda felt slightly vilified by Chalm's response. He'd essentially told the others to butt out and let them do their job. Deneb had mistakenly said that they would handle things outside of scouting. She should have corrected him but that woman...never mind. Best not to dwell. At least they wouldn't have to work together for a while. A few days out in the wild would certainly give her time to clear her head. Just had to get through dinner without incident. Hopefully that wasn't a tall order.

"So that is second and third group's commander's accounted for. Who's taking the first." Deneb manages not to look or even lean in Lyda's direction. All innocent curiosity, that he was.

"I vote for Acaciano or Kaellin," Lyda says. She gets an odd look from her halfling companion. "Both are from this region I believe. They'd know it better than us."

Couldn't come up with a gameplay post to add so commenting on Aramil here.

Tension: I get what your saying. Most nature classes are poor in social settings. Deneb was built in defiance of that. He's got a +10 in diplomacy. Nothing like Amazin's +17 but also not a -1 like one of my other characters. For him specifically, he has a decent chance. Lyda took her comment as a personal affront to her friend and stepped in to defend. She's not used to social situations, in a large group, and very defensive over her close friends. People that have accepted her despite her appearance. (Which I am sad it is not causing as much drama as I had hoped. You pick an odd race for the RP potential and nothing happens is disappointing.) Lyda's not likely to come down for a while unless Amavin apologies, selfish as that might be. Someonne else is going to have to toss out an Olive Branch first. But now they both feel like they are being ganged up on so even Deneb is loosing his cool.

I expected tension at this point and don't mind at all being the in the middle. Zero hard feelings OOC. Rustled Jimmies IC.

"It's neither pride nor recklessness. It's practical," Lyda says starting to become cross. But she didn't need another enemy here so she takes a deep breath and tries a different route. Seriously, why couldn't they trust here to do her part? Was it her heritage? Was it a mistake to reveal herself yet? "I could explain it all now but we'd miss dinner. If you want to meet later I can tell you the whole thing if that would make you more comfortable. I have done this before through even more dangerous territory."

the whole kit and caboodle:
Full idea is to send have several groups of two fan out in front of the caravan. One ranger and one druid. Ranger watches for tracks, sightings of dangerous beasts and bandits and tries to do so while remaining unnoticed. Druid is support and communication. They'll prepare defensive spells and at least one animal messenger. Should they run across a threat, they'll observe if they haven't been spotted. If it needs to be dealt with they'll send for aid to do the dealing. If they have been spotted, they will try to flee, hide or evade and send for aid. There are three level 7's in my group alone plus level 5 cohorts and there are two other scouting groups. I don't think the random encounter table throws out anything higher than CR 5. Half-mile was a ballpark guess. I, as the player, have no clue what the best way to handle this would be. I have zero training here and not sure what to look up for research. I am essentially using entertainment knowledge (Ranger's Apprentice, Attack on Titan) to find a logical solution. It sounds solid to me be I really don't know.

If someone with actual knowledge or experience could weigh in,
that would be nice.

Lyda fields this response as it also involved her. "Every hunter that steps into the wilderness knows it might be their last. Its an inherent risk we all accept. But large groups are likely to be spotted by such beasts and men. And it is not as if help will not be available. I think we can manage a large screen and still keep people less than a half mile apart. If some of your people would like to leave tomorrow we can certainly reduce that distance."

Pfft. Trouble.:
Yes but that doesn't always mean roll for init. Smaller groups are less likely to draw attention or ire. Each NPC will make a judgment call but, for the most part, fleeing is the first priority.

Lyda steps between Amavin and Deneb. She crosses her arms as she assumes her full height, plus heels, and stares the sorceress down. "We have made no such mistakes. We don't assume, we observe. "Earth or wind would be preferable to fire. Mud makes for slow if not impossible travel," Lyda says stepping a little further forward and looking at Aramil. Deneb was actually standing in front of her out of necessity. He was looking a little pale from Chalm's announcement. That was a lot of political muck to sift through.

:Chalm:

Lyda was surprised to have had so much fun just reciting elvish poetry. She looked fondly down at a bracelet on her arm. It was the only bit of jewelry she wore. It was made with everlasting vines and several small crystals. A memento from her father from long ago. The party is cut off by the herald and she joins the rest as she files into the council room. She finds a seat next to her companions and gives the proceedings her full attention. Where to kneel, how to hold her hands, what to say. The first cleric to make his oath said a different one however. Lyda noted the changes and smiled a little.

One thing she had to think about was how to do the 'daughter of' part. Braern was indeed her father in her mind and Helen was very much a mother figure. But its not like they had any relationship. Besides the rescue that is. And she didn't know her real parents. Would that be alright?

"I, Lyda...um, just Lyda." She stumbled. Having not come to a consensus, she decided both should be recognized for how she turned out. Neither were parent by blood, but by choice. And that meant a whole lot more. She says both names with pride. "Daughter of Braern the Black Bear and Helen Castel, being of sound mind and without reservation, and excepting only my oaths to Erastil, swear fealty of mind, body, and soul to the King and People of Krádira. Should my oaths to Erastil come into conflict with my oaths to the King and People of Krádira, I will go to my lord King that I may return unto him the titles, duties, rights, responsibilities, and privileges which he has granted me, that I may be released from the oaths I here swear unto the true and loyal service of Erastil. With this sole exception, I swear to bear loyal and true service to the King and People of Krádira, and to honor, preserve, protect, and uphold the laws, justice, and mercy of and for the People of Krádira against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the King and People of Krádira. I swear to faithfully execute the charges given to me, to protect and guide the people over whom I am granted rulership, guarding them in times of peril, nurturing them in times of peace, leading them in times of war, and governing them always with justice tempered by mercy, as the gods give me the wisdom to so do. This I swear to do until my final death, the world's end, or my lord release me."

Lyda didn't really pay attention to what followed or the other oaths. She just kept looking out the window, hoping this would be over soon so she could return to where she belonged.

::Drinking Contest - Poetry Corner::
To Lyda's surprise, the drinking contest seemed less a contest of liver and more a contest of linguistics. There was, of course, the dirty rhymes of the Black Company vs the Steel Fists. But the other groups were retelling historical events and waxing poetic in elven. Few people seemed to actually understand what was being said in elvish but it was one of the languages she was fluent in. She debated internally whether she should join or not. She was fairly certain she could do well. One of her prized possessions was a book of nature-themed elvish poetry.

Finding an unknown reserve of courage, Lyda circled round to their group and took one of the drinks on the table during a lull. She looked at the cup in mild surprise, elven wine, then realized how the elven poetry contest got started. When they looked her way she spoke.

"Āmi mēghēra yēmana ēkākī ōẏānḍāraḍa
urd'dha yē bhāsā vales ēbaṁ pāhāṛa upara,
yakhana saba ēkabārē ēkaṭā lōkēra bhiṛa dēkhē
subarṇa ḍēphōḍila ēkaṭi hōsṭa;
lēkēra pāśē, gāchēra talāẏa,
dāpādāpi ēbaṁ hā'ōẏā nāca."

Elvish:
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Lyda had to admit, one of the few things she enjoyed when returning to civilization was the food. She'd picked up a few tricks from Joanne and started bringing small amounts of spices to make trail rations and hunted game better but nothing compared to these little cakes. She'd gone through three before realizing she'd need to save room for actual dinner. Deneb wandered through the crowd, spotted her, smiled, then wandered off. For some reason she felt extremely embarrassed by that. She was already more than ready to leave and she'd barely talked to anyone. So many people being around was extremely draining. But now she had cake and was ready to do something...maybe.

Lyda is happy to see approval and breaths a silent sigh of relief. No matter what else happened, at least the leader of this endeavor had no problems with her. Hopefully that would transfer down the chain of command. She watches the rest of the drama unfold but catches none of the subtle politics or hidden meanings. She notes Sarra's nervous but wise choices. She did well under pressure. But now things were moving towards the council chamber and a duel but neither of those appealed to her. Instead, she wandered over to the food. She wondered how it would compare to Joanne's cooking. The woman was spoiling her with all the good grub. She might not be able to subsist on hardtack and jerky ever again. She finds a good sampling and quiet place to eat.

I figure that's how things probably went down. In my story, she was well on her way to being one when things were cut short. And the order within Gronzi, while organized, is very slow. Years slow. By the time they heard about it and sent someone to investigate, Lyda had adapted and gone a little sideways. I imagine mostly over the druid restriction on metal. Its too useful in survival to give up. And by then she was mostly autonomous and doing the same duties her father performed, just differently. But Erastil saw fit to grant her some of his power so they left her to her own devices. Call her a druid consultant or contractor.

"I understand." Mostly anyway. Lyda had her own responsibilities and obligations, even before being named head of Voice of the Mountains. That much she understood. And that sometimes, powerful people found themselves the target of others wishing to exploit a relative. But after that, someone was going to have to explain. What kind of family would hold one of their own hostage to control another? Issia and Rostland going to war? Where they not part of the same country?

"I can't help with the first two but I can with the last. Learning being the most important," she says, referring to herself as well. "That is why I am here, yes? Because I have survived and adapted better than most." Her tail flicks side to side drawing attention to it. It is obvious she is not just referring to her skills in surviving the wild, but also surviving in society to get to this point. A tiefling who dared to be herself in a room full of people nervous from here very presence. Some of divine orders that had hunted down the very beings whose blood flowed through her. Nature had accepted her. Helen and Deneb had too. So she accepted herself. Hopefully he had as well.

Lyda does not react as Amavin reveals she too is a caster. They'd see in due time if her perceptions held or not. They were all more socially adept than her, except maybe Sylvia. She might have at least one person beat.

And Lyda didn't miss Alysandra's we. There was just enough emphasis to be a warning. It was a surprise too. Alysandra seemed extremely level-headed and professional. But that might also be a front given the two situations they had met in. The slight crack her professional mask the nickname caused lead her to believe she might be on the right track. Alysandra was not being completely open just yet.

The clergyman's bird comment irked her a bit. Deneb was sad Garuda could not come to the party as she was for Kasha. They weren't even allowed in the city for that matter. They were both perfectly well trained. But bias aside, they still had their natural instincts. They'd be practically useless without them. One wrong step and a healer would be needed. They did not need that as a first impression. Her horns and tail already gave her a disadvantage. Strangely, no one seemed to notice. Was she overly mindful of them? Were they harder to recognize than she thought?

Lyda follows the voice back to its source and does not immediately catch on to the reaction the others have to it. Her curtsy is thus late and less elegant than the others. She fails to make up her mind on whether to do Alysandra's or the one of the female swordlord's and lands somewhere in between. Maybe she should have practiced. She didn't use it often. Well, closer to never. She recovers quickly from the embarrassment and ignores any disapproving looks, instead focusing back on the king and his daughter.

"Is that what she wants to do?" The question came out innocent enough but could have been taken differently. She'd met some women of House Medvyed. Their talents extended well beyond the house and court. Usually a craft or two and adept fighters. The King seemed like the type appreciate a more varied curriculum. Given Sarra's interest in Sylvia's companion, maybe falconry.
