About Lukas Ardheim
Lukas earlier memories are on the street where he used his charms and wits to survive. He didn’t remember his parents and never bothered to look for them.
His skills soon gained him an job in the local thief’s guild, where he improved his skills and discovered that he had small magical abilities.
It was because of them that he was chosen to a job targeting a local wizard and that’s where he met Gorion, the wizard. The job went horribly wrong and his team left him for dead on the mage’s tower.
As luck would have it though, not only did he survived but he was recruited by the wizard who saw those magical cantrips and believed the boy, now in his early teens, had potential for more.
Lukas much preferred the life on the tower than on the street so he gladly settled in his new role but he was always looking for the big score that would allow him to leave this pace and be someone.
Years passed though and he actually began to enjoy the powers he was learning and was warming up to the grumpy wizard. So, he accepted his invitation to go to the wizards academy for a season, to see how he liked it.
It didn’t go well obviously. Soon, Gorion was called about is problematic apprentice. Among the charges, was illegal gambling, blackmailing other students, indecent behavior with some female apprentices and general disregard for the school’s rules.
You can take the kid off the streets but you can’t take the streets off him, right? – He scolded the arrogant boy
Everyone here is much worse than me, they just disguise it better. If you’re saying I am nothing like them, I’ll gladly agree - he replied angrily
Still, being a wizard of renown, Gorion was able to convince the school to give him a last chance and he ended up being one of the students select to participate on a strange ritual they were preparing.
Lukas hated the school but he didn’t want to fail, so he studied and prepared for the ritual. He did everything right, he was sure of it but still, disaster struck. With the summoning chamber in chaos, Gorion alone tried to stop the havoc and close the disrupted portal. Lukas was unsure of what to do until some phantom broke the defensive circle and attacked the distracted wizard. Without thinking he threw himself between the ghost his master. The ghost went through him at the same time the portal collapsed, sending a magical pulse outwards and then collapsing on itself sucking Gorion with it.
The aftermath of this tragedy didn’t go well for him. He was blamed for the whole mess and Belios, the same wizard who instructed him on what to do in the ritual, took Gorion’s place in the council. Banished in a swift trial, he thought about revenge but dismissed the idea If this is what this place is, you can kill each other off, I’ll gladly leave – he said as he left.
Ahahah what an exit! I’m sure they were very impressed – the voice in his head came again, taunting, mocking him. It appeared soon after the disaster and called itself Riktor. Eventually Lukas found out that it was the spirit of a holy warrior who fell from grace and died centuries ago. He was summoned to fight them but something happened during the battle and they were now bound together. On the positive side, his telekinetic powers where still usable and Lukas was able to keep him controlled most of the time. The problem was having him always on his head, looking for an escape to bring his rage to this world. Lukas should try to learn his history, what really happened to him but… later. For now he was enjoying his new-found freedom. As he played with his amulet, one of the items he “borrowed” from his old school, he smiled. He was confident the trinket would help him keep the spirit in check while he tried to gain “fame and glory”... and a few pieces of gold if they fall in his lap
