Abandoned at the doorstep of a halfling family on the outskirts of Korvosa, Loris Rakain grew up as an outcast among the pleasent villagers. The halfling community, all followers of Erastil, are a close nit band of hunters and farmers, revering nature and the hunt. Every year, the villages holds an annual hunt and competition for Archer's Day on the 3rd of Erastus.
As a child, he quickly outgrew the other children, and would spend his youth fighting off the gangs of the smaller halfling children that would use superior numbers against the much larger Loris. It was this training that taught him the value size and reach plays in fighting multiple foes.
Forced into the clergy at a young age. He never truly accepted the the gods as they were, but instead revered in what they stood for. Often a contrarian to the rest of the clergy, speaking mainly of the glories of the hunt, and not of Erastil himself, he found himself banished from the village when he refused to heal those whom he deemed unworthy of the gift.
After many years wandering the wilderness with just his spear, his bow, and the animals that he befriends, Loris finally decides to track down his birth parents. The medallion he wears around his neck is his only clue as to his true heritage.
After months of painstaking investigation, Loris finally tracks down his parents, Vic and Laura Fontaine, Whom lived in the crowded Shingles district of Korvosa working as dock laborers for a seedy character named Gaedren Lamm.
Through his investigations, Loris discovered that his father Vic had sold little Loris to Gaedren to live out his life as a slave laborer. Laura, upon discovering this treachery, Laura snuck Loris out of the city. She was never seen from again.
Gaedren, furious with Vic for not delivering the child, had him executed for what he believed was a straight double-cross.
