Background:

Lizette would have you believe that she was a stolen princess from far off Tarsis who was taken from her fabulous life and forced to hid in the squalor of the Warrens. Or perhaps she is the illegitimate daughter of the famous Iron Mage. Once she almost convinced a group of thugs that her father was a merchant prince from Uraq and he would pay handsomely if she was cared for. In short…Lizette is a liar, and not a very good one at that!
Born as many are, in poverty and squalor, Lizette found herself alone in the world at a very early age. She remembers nothing of her family, and her earliest memories were working for an old woman. She was badly treated by the woman, who went by the name of Mother Crone. Forced to cook and care for the old woman, it was a blessed relief when she finally died. The only things she took from these early days were a few coins the old woman had scrounged and a piece of paper she had taunted Lizette with since before she can remember. The paper, an old piece of vellum with faded, but colourful ink, seemed to be important to the old woman, but having never learned to read, Lizette has no idea what worth it might actually have, only that the woman said it was “proof” of something.
The coins gathered from the hidden stash Mother Crone had did not last long, and soon Lizette was forced to try her hand at thievery. Being small and quick she was able to keep herself fed, if only enough to stave off starvation, but she soon came to the notice of the local gangs, especially the Pale Dogs. The group did not like any freeloaders on their turf, and many times tried to catch the young thief, but she proved to be much too quick to catch, so a trap had to be laid. Lizette could not help herself when she saw several loafs of bread fall off a handcart of the baker making a shortcut through her alley. Crawling from her hidden shelter, she went to swipe the fallen loafs, but suddenly both ends of the alley were filled with Pale Dogs. She tried to run…she fought…but to no avail…they had finally captured her.
This most likely would have been the end of her story if not for a chance meeting. As the Pale Dogs were beating her, a shout rang out and suddenly she was no longer surrounded by fists and feet bludgeoning her. Trying to open a swollen eye, she saw the hazy outline of a figure standing over her. She then passed out. When she finally awoke Lizette found herself in a comfortable cot covered by a warm blanket. Bewildered on how she got there, she finally got to meet her rescuer, Ralelle Noramar, a Knight of the Golden Cross. She was in a hostel run by the Order of Dayra, the Lothian saint of Children, Motherhood, and the Poor. Ral, as she was known to her friends, just happened to be in the alley when the Pale Dogs sprung their trap. She defeated the gutter snipes and brought Liz to the Dayran priests to be healed.
Lizette stayed with the Order for several months, feeling that she needed to repay their charity, even though they repeatedly told her that she did not. She still went out most nights, but now with a purpose…to strike back at the Pale Dogs! In private she trained with her knives getting more proficient with they day by day. She was even able to get Ral to teach her a few moves, under the guise of self-defence.
So now Lizette splits her time trying to help the poor of the Warrens, as well as satisfying her own need for revenge. She sees it as a service helping the poor of the district, but in her heart of hearts she knows that it is driven by her hatred of the Pale Dogs.
