Okay. I got an email from Goblinworks with a link for installing Pathfinder Alpha. I go there and try to register, but it says my email is already in use so I use the forgot username link and it tells me there is no account associated with my email address. I follow the links to the Paizo link tool and it takes me to a blank page. Help?

Hi! I just got accepted to the order on the Empyrean website forum. Character name Ash. Look forward to playing with you guys!

I've searched for this and keep finding threads where people argue about what properties should or shouldn't be allowed on the amulet and it seems to boil down to what your GM will allow, but for Society play I'm sure there is some standardized list some where. Anyone know where to find it?

Liberty's Edge

I'm loving the discussion I started. I'm seeing good points from both sides, and even though I'm on the side of getting SOMETHING out of the gaming session besides warm fuzzies for playing with your friends and aquaintences, I understand why that isn't currently the case.

I would like to offer a counter argument to the people who say that replayers might cheapen the experience by using their prior knowledge to gain an advantage by saying that the people that would do that are also likely the people that would just pirate the adventures and read them ahead of time.

Maybe a compromise? Only allow rewards for replays for prior seasons? That way it's less likely that newer stuff that fewer people have played get spoilers revealed by unscrupulous players?

Liberty's Edge

I was at a society game Friday night when an issue with a fellow player came up. His character was in dire straits and nearly died when he learned that even though he had already played the scenario and was getting no rewards from it, if his character died he was still dead by society rules. He had a bit of a breakdown, said he was deleting his characters and never playing again. Immature way of handling things, sure, but it did make me wonder about the whole no rewards thing.

It does seem a bit harsh to impose the same penalties on a character when there is, in fact, no rewards at stake. If a player just wants to play to enjoy time with his friends and help out the group by offering an extra sword or spell it doesn't feel right that they should be at risk when they've nothing to gain out of it.

It's easy to tell someone "you don't have to play" or "suck it up, that's just how things are." But really it's kinda dickish. Gaming is meant to be a fun, sociable thing to do with your friends, and I don't see why even a small reward can't be given to replays or at least a limitation on the risks. Otherwise there really is no reason to replay a scenario and we're limiting our player base as noone in their right mind is going to gamble a character they've put a lot of time and effort into when there's nothing to get out of it.

Just starting this thread to get some thoughts and ideas churning, nothing here is intended to enflame or belittle the system.

Liberty's Edge

Sorry, I was asking for a Pathfinder society character and didn't want a lot of answers about 3.5 compatibility :)

Liberty's Edge

I've been looking for a Pathfinder equivalent of a feat from 3.5 called short haft that would allow me to attack adjacent squares with a reach weapon. Someone at a game last night said there is one, but I haven't been able to find it. Any ideas?

Liberty's Edge

I as a member of Shadow Lodge would just like to express my extreme displeasure for having to default to the vile Cheliax faction for older missions. -.-

Liberty's Edge

You make a good argument. higher con will be more of a benefit up front and I can double dip at 8 and 12 for dex.

Thinking of just half and half on the level split. I like the Energy body for later levels too. Just pass through someone's square to heal them.

Good thought on the stabilize, forgot about that cantrip

Liberty's Edge

Okay I think I like this for final ability scores:

STR 10
DEX 17
CON 13
INT 12
WIS 9
CHA 17

That gives me 4 odd stats that can be bumped up to the next category with level bumps

Bump Charisma at 4, Con at 8, Dex at 12, Wis at 16 (If we ever get our level cap raised)

So what about feats? Are my initial selections good ones or should I be looking at something else?

I'm not sure why you would want to multiclass. At most, I'd take a single level of bard with life oracle. Or straight bard would work reasonably well too. You'll have a mithril chain shirt before too long, Armor Expert is a waste.

The multiclassing is really just the roleplay concept I have in my head A young Kitsune who just wants to be a bard, explore ancient ruins and tell the tales of grand adventurers, but the gods have other plans for her and so she bounces back and forth between the two.

Liberty's Edge

STR 10
DEX 16
CON 12
INT 12
WIS 9
CHA 18

?

5 strength is going to be a very bad idea, you're going to be at a medium load from armor and your crossbow, factor in other gear and you'll probably make it to a heavy load.

Yeah I was looking at that :(

Does this look better?

STR 8
DEX 18
CON 10
INT 12
WIS 8
CHA 18

WIS isn't really needed for either Bard or Oracle

Liberty's Edge

I've got a concept in my head for a Kitsune Oracle(Life)/Bard as a strictly support character and was wanting to see what people thought about her.

The image I have in my mind is someone who stays on the outskirts of combat, playing her flute, inspiring courage, buffing with bless spells, etc. To this end I was thinking of making Str her dump stat so that she would have high dex and Cha. This would be her stats after racial mods

Str 5
Dex 18
Con 10
Int 12
Wis 10
Cha 18

For beginning traits I was thinking of picking up:
Vagabond Child to make Disable Device a class skill and round out her skillset.
Sacred Touch: Prevent my teamates from dying if I can't heal them right away

Also considering Armor Expert to reduce the check penalty of masterwork chain shirt to 0

For weapon I'm thinking light crossbow. Doesn't rely on str, she can fire it when there's an opening for her to do so in combat.

First Revelation Channel
First Feat I was thinking Extra Revelation and taking safe curing so she can use healing spells without drawing AoO's

I won't be getting many feats from this build, but I thought rapid reload, point blank shot, and precise shot should at least be in there.

Maybe selective channeling.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Blood of Fiends does not have the alternate racial traits presented in the Advanced Race Guide like Vestigial Wings, or Prehensile Tail, so you'll need to own both books if you wish to fully personalize your character. That's what I love about Tieflings though, They're so moldable. It's almost like having access to the racial creation section of the ARG

Liberty's Edge

echoing the above, You can play a Grimspawn Tiefling assuming you have purchased either the hard copy or the PDF of "Blood of Fiends", but you are not able to use the Variant Tiefling Abilities printed on pages 16 & 17 of that book. Otherwise my Pitborn Tiefling paladin would have a 22 Charisma :D

Liberty's Edge

Thanks again, Mergy!

Liberty's Edge

If you have a low-level character that doesn't have enough prestige for the raise dead portion, but can pay to have her body retrieved, can you then pay the raise dead prestige with a separate character who is also in Shadow Lodge? I had a character die at level 2 in a party wipe adventure. I wouldn't care, except that I was using a dhampir boon so it wastes the boon :(

Liberty's Edge

Yay! Getting my Kitsune :D Thanks, Mergy.

Unrelated question, Anyone know where to find the list of starting equipment packages for specific classes?

Lily,

As others have said, some are rare, some are common.

Kitsune is so freakin common it makes you want to scream.

My wife and I left Gen-con with 4 of them, were given 2 more by friends that were also infested with foxes, then at the last con we went to (Ucon in MI) got..... you guessed it, a Kitsune boon.

We have become the dork version of the "free kitten box" seen outside of markets back in the 50's

Sadly for you, we have now given away all of our Kitsunes, our local gaming group looks like it attended the local furry convention.

However Kitsune is SUPER common, ask around and you may find someone with an (or more) extra.

That being said, anyone have an extra Kitsune sheet laying around? :)

Is there a posting somewhere of what racial playability sheets will be available at what con? I would like to play a Kitsune character, but have no idea where to go to get a sheet for one.

Me too?

edit: Yay! :D

Liberty's Edge

awesome, thank you so much!

Liberty's Edge

Hi there. I have pending orders from the goblinworks kickstarter that say they need an address from me before they can ship, however when I go to the section under my account for adding or changing shipping addresses it simply says "You have no active shipping address" There is no link to edit, or add an address at all. How do I add my shipping address?

I would like to know the ruling on this as well.

Liberty's Edge

So if Paizo is unwilling to make any more shirts of the other factions and faction-loyal members without shirts to wear are denied rerolls simply because they don't wish to wear an opposed faction's shirt this hardly seems fair. If we take it upon ourselves to have a faction shirt made may we use it as a reroll shirt?

One thing that I really want to see and that has been very lacking in the MMO world is extremely customizeable characters. City of Heroes does this right with a very VERY robust character appearance system. Especially for women I would like to see some more realistic options. Every Warrior woman running around with giant jiggling boobs might appeal to lots of people, but it seems almost a gaff. I would just like a slider for body type that can let us play something that doesn't look like they've spent all their gp on gnomish inflateable implants.

Liberty's Edge Goblinworks Executive Founder

I would definitely like to see a way of customizing the look of your gear. If you find you like the LOOK of one set of gear, but want the stats of another there should be a way of combining them. WoW and Tera both have ways of doing this, not sure about other games.

Liberty's Edge

Are the variant Tiefling Abilities on pages 16 & 17 of Blood of Fiends legal?

edit: Nevermind, found where it says they're not.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks, guys! I appreciate the clarifications! :)

Liberty's Edge

Hey there! Usually I enjoy painting my miniatures myself, but I haven't played with miniatures in years and my paint supply is severely diminished. Does anyone know of any good painters for hire in the Portland, Oregon metro area and could put me in touch with them?

Liberty's Edge

Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

I just want to verify so I can be sure I understand this system. If I have a +1 longsword and want to add a +1 to it or an effect that costs a +1 bonus my cost for the upgrade would be 6,000 GP not 8,000 GP, correct?

Liberty's Edge

oooooh. I see. Thanks! I must've overlooked the full defense action! :)

Liberty's Edge

I was just trying to research this looking for an errata or something. My book shows exactly what the OP says, identical text for fighting defensively as a full round vs a standard action. However if you look under the acrobatics skill it states that if you have 3 or more ranks in acrobatics that you receive a +3 bonus to AC instead of the +2 bonus for fighting defensively, and a +6 bonus instead of a +4 bonus when doing a full defensive action

So which is the typo?

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for all the responses, guys! I could DM something for my group before I move. hmmm.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks. So yes on Paragon, no on rich parents. So I guess no starting the game with a mw weapon, eh? :)

Liberty's Edge

Are the traits Hermean Paragon (from the Inner Sea Primer), and Rich Parents legal?

Liberty's Edge

Thanks, Daniel. That's how I thought it was supposed to work, but the wording had me confuzzled.

Liberty's Edge

I hope they bring it back. I have a character concept in mind and a Dhampir would really fit the bill.

Another question about character creation. The wording in the PFS organized play book concerning HP after level 1 is a little confusing. It sounds almost as if you get max hp at any time you take a first level in a class regardless of if it is your first class or not. Is that correct?

Liberty's Edge

Awww. Saddness :(

Hey guys! This is Wes from the Kickstarter group. I ponied up $1k It hurt, but I had the space on my credit card and I have a really low APR so it's all good! I just wanted to play in an alpha test group for once!

Still can't believe how awesome the roleplay community was during this. And this is JUST the technology demo. I'm not sure if they are planning on putting the actual game on kickstarter or rely on more mainstream backers, but either way we really showed them that we're starving for a different kind of game. A game that kicks mmo stereotypes to the curb.

I just hope that Goblinworks sticks to their guns on this and doesn't get wishy-washy with the sandbox premise.

Liberty's Edge

So what would be the quickest way to earn a Dhampir boon? Is it possible to earn boons over online play? Don't have much going on here local with the PFS and I'll be moving to the Portland area in August and would like to have my Dhampir character ready for the move.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks so much, everyone! That all really helps :)

Liberty's Edge

Ah, I see, thank you. I remember in 3.5 organized play you had racial cards that gave you the right to play certain races and you could generally find them on ebay and the like.

Liberty's Edge

Hi! I just recently joined the Pathfinder society and I was reading through the material for character creation and had a few questions.

I'm wanting to play a Dhampir, but I know that you have to have boons? or something like that to play non-core races? Could someone please explain how that works, and if these boons are possible to purchase outside of events, etc.

Second question I had: Is the Aldori Dueling blade legal equipment, and does the rule apply that if you have the exotic weapon feat to use it then you can apply weapon finesse to it as well?

I'm sure I will come across other questions, but hopefully this will get me started :)
