Agreed, or if no effective method that the character has at his or her disposal exist that allow him to carry out the command, the spell should then fail as it triggers the final clause "If the subject can't carry out your command on its next turn, the spell automatically fails." (Edit: FAQ'ing this.
AbyssLord wrote: Has anyone suggested that instead of tracking to the scenario level that you might instead gain a flat gp total based on the level of the player's character? That levels the playing field and neither incentivizes nor disincentivizes playing up or down. People get bored with things that are too easy, so I really don't see where folks would consistently play down just to survive if it isn't fun. Each xp gained could get you 1/3 of the way between one level and the next on the wbl table in gp totals. Then they could provide incentive to play up by offering access to better purchase lists instead of an unbalanced gp reward. It's not like you would expect more Xp from playing up so why should wealth be any different? Well said good sir! This would not only balance out WBL, but also give an incentive to players who take the risk of playing up with access to better equipment. Also, since it works both ways, high tier players don't suffer any serious detriment, as they will already have the needed FP/PP needed to get most items (save for example unique items made specifically for a scenario, that in of itself could be another potential benefit of playing up).

Well spoken indeed! The mistress of the Strings smiles as she begins a rousing tune of beloved Tian Xia upon her guqin. Captivating her audience with her masterful stringwork. Perform Check: Perform: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (7) + 31 = 38
After much reflection upon this matter; we are, as pathfinders, all the eyes and ears of the ten. As such, it is to the Ten, and to the well-being of the Society as a while that I have pledged my life and honor to. Though we are no longer members of the Lantern Lodge in name and title, forever will we uphold it's spirit. Be true to the light friends, and it shall always see you home. (OOC: Moved over to grand lodge officially as of yesterday @ Origins. Just a few more mods to go before Eyes of the Ten.)
Hey just a quick question. I'm playing around with a summoner concept which would take Eldritch Heritage at 3rd level for acquiring a familiar. Now, by the rules on Eldritch Heritage, my sorcerer level would be equivalent to level - 2. However, when I take Improved Familiar to get, say for example a Pseudodragon (requires arcane caster @ 7th level), would the requirement be based upon my effective sorcerer level (meaning I would have to take it at 9th to qualify), or could I use my summoner level (as 7th level arcane caster) to meet this requirement?
As she converses with the hardy Kellish lad named Steel Arrow, she smiles as a pair of newcomers walks within. Nodding gently to the Tian monk, she smiles "Ah, Master Xi. I trust your travels to Minkai were fruitful. And I believe," turning to the fine wisp of a lady in Sichelgaita, "You must be Sichelgaita One-Eye, your reputation is well known and deserved, even amongst your own fellows." She smiles again, motioning to the chairs around her. "I've thought long these last several days about to whom I will pledge myself to amongst the remaining factions, and amongst those I must say I find the prospect of joining with the Andorans a distinct possibility. Talyn's rather colorful descriptions of them not included of course." She chuckles softly at that playful remark. "I believe their words and deeds to be honorable, but I would be remiss if I did not speak of the matter with one such as yourself. Perhaps you'd like to shed some light upon this bastion of freedom?"
Upon the back of the grand hall sits a woman of flowing brown hair and deep amber eyes, dressed in exquisite Tian livery of fiery red upon gold. Her fingers dance ever so gingerly upon a most peculiar stringed instrument of mahogany bound in brass and silver, plucking forth a melody which plucks at both heart and soul alike, harmonies that brings even kings and gods alike to tears. Perform: String: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (13) + 31 = 44 The young woman who brings forth such sweet melody to life is known by many titles in Absalom and beyond, but to her fellow pathfinders, she is Lei Xiao, the Mistress of the Strings; a bard most recently in the service of the Lantern Lodge and her beloved mentor Amara Li. Recently returned from a long voyage from the heart of her native homeland, she recently has spent many a day in the grand lodge of Absalom in silence. Pondering in silence what path to take now that her beloved Lantern Lodge is no more. Perhaps the answer lies in the strings...

Yeah, but under those circumstances wouldn't this also completely hose any prepared caster. No time to prep = no spells to prep. Thankfully in this case our GM was least kind enough to give us that chance to have our "default spells in place to begin with. Overall, I enjoyed this particular adventure. Yes, if you don't prepare well (which if your playing iconics, or newly minted 1st-level characters, is very possible), it's going to be a serious challenge for you. It requires a lot of creative thinking and problem solving to get through to the end. You play smart, you'll do well. You don't, well... I think our halfling rouge got the "point" of that. |
