We are a bit slow, so the games are still on. They're about to meet a couple of vampires (I changed the encounters in Walcourt in order to make them less repetitive), Vahnwynne and Manthritor Thrax, and I hope this will be challenging enough to let the players understand that they won't make it against Ilnerik unless they bring something new to the fight.

It depends a lot on the kid.
My 9yo son's played several times with different PCs and he's faced dragons and undead, and he's willing to run a game himself. He's also lost a PC, the GM told him "He wasn't a good guy, your new PC is far better" and my son moved on and never thought of it again.
Yet his older friend (11) lost his PC and couldn't sleep at night.

About the second issue, I have little experience but I think you could pay attention to descriptions of places and monsters. The more you make the situation detailed, the more they'll be into it and enjoy it, no matter how big, bad and terrible their opponent is. BTW, I'd say make their enemies not humans, keep them in the fantasy world.

Oh, I almost forgot...they like magic items (who doesn't? :D) and who cares if they're lvl 1. They like feeling powerful and invincible even more than we do.

Well, I don't know if I've made myself clear or if my blabbering's been useful, I hope so!

PS As far as I noticed, kids prefer playing their "inner hero", yet sometimes they agree to play a pre-gen char. Don't be strict, if they want to be something different or weird, let them do it, they'll enjoy much more.

PPS My son loves the word "suddenly..." and me keeping the tone "mysterious", but I guess this is subjective.

I went with "Vahnwynne hits when the group is in combat with Sian" and they won in a handful of rounds, without any real damage. CR10 is the least I should use.

The Gory Details: Half of the group was mining and he attacked alone to protect the bard, he got swallowed and went negative hp because already hit by the lightning, so he couldn't try anything to escape. Bye Bye.

Strictly speaking, a summoned creature is not allowed to also summon a creature.

Does the Cleric realize that Morrowfall could really make Jair's day? (Sunbeam and Sunburst will seriously mess up a Vampire.)

And, yes. Directly harming a creature you have charmed breaks the spell. Check the spell description.

My bad, I didn't know the summoned dretch couldn't summon. BTW the ranger took them down in two rounds.

Fearing the power of the Mooorwfall they put it into the Chelix Crux, but they had a sunburst scroll and they used it. Bye bye Jair.

PS Happy Easter :)

I'd enjoy it for sure, but it requires a lot of spare time, which I do not have. My "studying time" starts at 9 p.m., and preparing lessons for the next morning comes first if I care for my job, so...
There is a chance we'll take a break (I'll be a player and not a DM) in a few months, if so I will work at reversing the modules and bother you again :p

So my players went through the Sixfold Trial brilliantly and are now at the Cornucopia, but....they explored the whole vaneo, found the remains of the magic trap (with detect magic) in the attic but not the secret room. They are sure that the Asmodean Knot is behind the huge black door in the banquet hall and they're waiting until everybody pass out to open it. My only hope is Crosael's map of the house, which they found and managed to unveil: maybe they will see the unexplored room in the attic....maybe.
Perhaps I should make Delour+Aberian collapse very close to the door. Naked. Clung to one another. Covered in honey and wine. This would keep me far away, maybe it would work for them as well....

I made my rich merchant a cartographer, and V is his dead wife's sister helping him with her knowledge (she is a ranger). She refused to waste her time killing some lesser undeads in the family crypt because she was after "a bigger problem", so the PCs had to deal with them. They met her at the Dusk Market as well, buying some unusual stuff, and a religion check allowed them to understand she is a vampire hunter.
I like your idea of a night meeting while fighting the shadowgarms...

Hi everybody, I need some help for the end of Bastard of Erebus.

My PCs went through the Bastards' lair killing anything they met, but came to a halt in Dravano's room: two of them got killed (bad, bad, very bad dice rolls). I let them retrieve the corpses and, somehow, I'll make them resurrect the fallen. But....what about the Bastards?

Palaveen, Dravano and the two brothers are still in the lair. How can I go on?
Should I make the group level up with some side quests and try again or should I make a patrol of Hellknight deal with them?

If the PCs wait and come back, what will they find in there?

I do, thank you, I found it in my edition too.
