Kyra nods shakes her head in frustration...at hearing that, Tahonikepsu is no longer at the spires. She prays all night for guidance and in the morning ask Sarenrae for the spells that the Goddess thinks Kyra should have for the day. When she departs her tent in the morning she spends some time in contemplation watching the sunrise. After meditating, Kyra is sure of her coarse. When she meets her companions for breakfast Kyra says, Do you have the gem? After receiving the gem...Kyra ask Sarenrae to cleanse the gem of all filth evil and ancient curses..Kyra cast remove curse on the Gem.
Kyra then quietly hands the gem back to whoever gave it to her and says, I will not be returning to the complex. My conscious and my training forbade me to help that undead abomination further. You may do as you like...I will not stop you. I will finish my report to our superiors at the society while I await your return. Please, do not ask me to come with you ...there is nothing you can do to convince me. Sarenrae herself as blessed my decision. With that Kyra quietly walks away from her companions and returns to her own tent.

Ok Kyra would be done with this adventure at this point...there's no way she would aid an undead Sphinx without having permission from a higher-up. Besides, as a cleric to Sarenrae..she'd find this whole business distasteful. GM if you don't mind...I'm dropping out..I imagine we are more than 3/4 the way through so I should receive my full XP point.
Frankly the pacing has been a bit fragmented...and the combats tough to follow. I am not criticizing your style..(in the beginning of the adventure in particular...your descriptions of the rooms were very engrossing) I have just found that this adventure...is not as well suited to PbP as some others.
I do want to thank you for all your efforts. As a regular PbP GM myself...I know how much time and effort is put in to these things and it often goes un-appreciated. I want to assure you...I appreciate all your efforts and have had a good amount of fun playing your game. However, I'm just burned out of this scenario at this point...and coming up with a character motivation seems equally as hard as producing personal motivation to continue. So with all the grace I can muster..
I am bowing out of this scenario.

Oh FYI the chronicle for this adventure..I'm applying to a 1st lv character so the gold would only be 500gp or some fraction there of..

Kyra addresses Saruna in the following manner, Although it is fact that, you still hold some semblance of life, in the walking corpse you inhabit...I do not consider you fully alive, and therefore an abomination to the Dawnflower. However, I feel that your presence may somehow be connected and even required in this place. Kyra's eyes narrow at Saruna. I will consult our liege in this matter, The Diamond Sage Tahonikepsu. If she gives me permission to help you...I will pray to the Dawnflower to lift the curse on the gem tomorrow at sunrise. Kyra then taps her scimitar. However, if she bids me to destroy all interlopers residing in their library... I'll have no problem fulling that duty either Says Kyra while taping her sword and staring daggers in to the undead Sphinx.
Without another word, Kyra turns and begins to make her way to the top of the complex to go and consult with the Diamond sage Tahonikepsu. She doesn't bother bringing the Gem..sure that one of her colleagues will retrieve it. She doesn't stop until she reaches the surface.
OK Kyra will return to the surface and tell the Diamond sage all that's transpired so far. She ask plainly if the party should help Saruna or destroy the creature. If Saruna tries to stop Kyra before she leaves to perform this duty...we should roll for initiative because Kyra will attack the creature should she be stopped from performing what she feels is her duty. Lastly, unless pulled in to a combat before she can leave..Kyra rest an entire night on the surface re-memorizing her spells

Kyra interjects, I could beseech Sarenrae for the spell at tomorrow's Sunrise. However, It seems we passed a library, perhaps we could find the proper scroll located there? Kyra doesn't have 'read magic' memorized but, I could do a spellcraft check on the 2 scrolls
spellcraft scroll 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6spellcraft scroll 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 If unable to decipher the scrolls; Kyra searches the library for a scroll of remove curse 'taking 20'; if still unable to acquire a remove curse today. Kyra returns to the surface. Ask the Sapphire Sage if she can return tomorrow to cast remove curse (after she memorizes it in the morning.

Kyra examines Barm's wounds heal check: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19 and then takes out her scroll of lesser restoration and cast it on Barm. lesser restoration: 1d4 ⇒ 4

I'll check in twice a day..could someone let me know when it's Kyra's turn...? One of the more difficult combats I've played on these boards to track...I really have no idea who's turn it is or what order the creatures or PCs go in..not complaining , I just don't want to hold up the group.

Ok um so can someone move me to the appropriate place on the map? Kyra is vexed as she hears the sounds of battle resume'. Got to get them quickly!Kyra moves as fast as she can towards the battle.

Kyra rushes up to the scene of the dead Bardu..*pant*...good you finished off the retched soul. Now the question remains...Do we give the heart to the undead sphinx? My inclination is to ask the sapphire sage her wishes. But, I will acquiesce to the group's majority desire on this mater. Seoni looks at the wands and says please let me examine those detect magic+ spellcraft and guidance wand 1: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 = 16detect magic+ spellcraft and guidance wand 2: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23 Kyra looks over the group, Do any of you need more healing? (Kyra will use her wand of healing to put all members back up to full HP) Kyra then looks to the party, Whatever, our decision..let us be quick about it. If we are to negotiate with the undead sphinx again, I'd like to have some these protective wards that Sarenrae has granted...still active when we confront the monster again.

Kyra channels to heal those injured in the battle with the gargoyle then, moves to help her comrades that pursued Bardu. channel: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 6) = 15 everyone except Bram and Mersiel gains 15hp of healing

GM I respectfully disagree with your interpretation of the spell effect, unless this deeper darkness effect was cast as a Heightened spell I have countered it with my daylight spell according to RAW:
Daylight counters or dispels any darkness spell of equal or lower level, such as darkness. This passage is at both the tail end of both Daylight and deeper darkness spells. They are both 3rd level so they counter 'each other' The lighting situation should be default (I brought light into the room with us. I guess there's a static effect that makes even a normal light spell dim. ie. the worst situation we should be in is dim light. (unless it's a heightened deeper darkness or some other darkness effect that is higher)

Kyra growls in frustration at the gargoyles tactics. Hold everyone! I'll get us some light back! Kyra mumbles angrily as, she takes out a vial from her pouch and begins to apply it to her shield. Suddenly the room is awash with light again. (PS the rest of the party should hold action until Kyra goes so they can actually see.

So anytime a creature is denied it’s Dex bonus you can sneak attack it ( if it’s vulnerable to precision dmg in the first place)

Kyra shouts to Ewrin above the battle hum , Fellow servant of the Dawnflower, hold for a moment and receive her boon! Kyra takes a 5' step forward and cast air walk on Erwin. Assuming he held action.
Kyra then reaches in her gear and retrieves another scroll.
I assume I'm out of the reach of the flying gargoyle ? So I don't provoke an AoO while casting? If I was within reach I would have just cast the spell and risked the AoO

Kyra concentrates and calls on the Holy wrath of Sarenrae to reign down on Bardu. (effect centered so it misses Merisiel, but probably hits Bram and Erwin) DC:18 Will save for Bardu for 1/2 dmg and resist 'blinding' for one round if failed save: blinded for one round and full dmg) Sarenrae show these evil minions your goodness and light! holy smite dmg: 7d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 5, 4, 2, 3) = 20 (if Bardu is an outsider)

Kyra reads her scroll of magic circle against evil. everyone of Kyra's allies that are within 10' receive a +2 deflection bonus to AC and +2 resistance bonus against saves (against evil creatures which these are) Also if some tries a mind affecting spell like charm/dominate person ..you can roll your save again if you failed the first one.

While listing to Bardu's and Erwin's exchange, Kyra takes out a potion of Eagles splendor and drinks it. Erwin wrote: I believe your words fall on deaf ears here, Kyra. Kyra continues to quietly pray for Guidance while waiting for Badru, to respond to her proposal. to sum up the Kyra's proposal she suggested the two guardians find a place to 'have it out' with one another, that won't destroy or put in danger any of the precious information or relics of the library. (i already rolled diplomacy)

It seems a pity. You are both set on destroying each-other. But, might not the Library suffer? In the midst of battle? Collateral damage seems likely when two powerful beings pit their wills and abilities against one another? Might there be a better way? or at least a safe spot where neither of you risk damaging the Library's priceless knowledge and relics? Oh Sarenrae please guide my actions and words. [ooc](if Bardu is a spellcaster it's a simple spellcraft check to see that Kyra just cast guidance.) Kyra clears her throat, er um..we wish nor wish to provoke any violence on you. Our mission is simply to preserve the knowledge of this library and inventory it's contents. We have leeway in how we choose to do this. Our immediate question to you would be, "do you intend to oppose our mission and or is it opposed to your own goals?" If the Bardu still seems willing to talk after her question, Kyra will continue. Because, if our goals are not opposed, perhaps we can aid each other...in whatever manor seems most fruitful to both parties? Kyra waits for the answer while nervously fidgeting, with the holy symbol of her goddess.

Kyra, sensing some unease from Erwin cast Divine Favor on herself, before responding to Badru. She then speaks up proudly, We do not belong to the order of the Jeweled Sages. We are in service to them. We have answered your question; now answer one of ours. You have been accused of your fellow guardian, of trying to destroy parts of the reliquary of knowledge and using it's contents for your own means. What say you to these accusations? Kyra has light cast on her shield, Her shield drawn and ready. As previously mentioned she just cast divine favor. She has one hand free to cast spells (her scimitar is not drawn yet)

Kyra tries to suppress a laugh as Barm drops a stone just missing his foot and Merisiel stops her labor to inspect a cracked nail. She resit teasing them and instead smiles knowingly. However, she does stay diligent against attack and manages to offer Barm a blessing on his next try. Kyra cast guidance on Barm.

As Kyra winds her way through the confusing fog with the aid of a rope, she tries to identify the magic effect that just over-came her. spellcraft/Detect magic: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13 She arrives with the rest of her party finally out of the maze. It is a strange effect indeed! I've never encountered the like. However, I was able to interpret some glyphs along the way. They may help us catalog this library at a later date. I suggest we move quickly forward. There may be more writing that needs deciphering and I only have a limited amount of time left before, the magic I used to decipher the Ruins..leaves me. Kyra ask Sarenrae's blessing and guidance. (Casting guidance on herself agiain before entering the next room.) Let us move forward,Kyra again follows Merisiel in to the next room.
GM I assumed we made it through to the stairs area. I moved the entire group forward. Unless the others object I've set the Marching order as thus Meisiel and Erwin up front. Kyra and Barm second row, with Bramble and Seoni bringing up the rear.

Kyra is completely lost she can't read the hieroglyphics, so she takes out her scroll of comprehend languages cast it and then quickly follows it up with a prayer of guidance to Sarenrae. Am I able to read the hieroglyphics now? Note: I've cast guidance as well.

Kyra releases the words of power forming in her mind ready to unleash her Goddesses Holy Wrath upon this wretched creature, You give me little reason to trust you Saruna but, if your temperance is an indication of your good will...we shall have peace. Kyra looks to the others confident in her words. We will go where you have suggested, and be mindful of your wards. You shall stay here as agreed or ...well we've already spoken of that. We shall discover what we can. If we find proof to back your claims..I shall owe you an apology. If not...I doubt our next contact will be pleasant. We shall be on our way now. Kyra says no more she simply turns to leave in the direction the sphinx indicated.

Ok there's a couple things bothering me in regards to this undead sphinx..
1. I don't want to mess with the GMs game but I find it hard to 'play in character' that, Kyra a worshiper of a deity that hates undead..would so readily trust an undead monster that had super genius intelligence in life.
2. Ok, so now it wants to 'follow-us' instead of lead..fair enough..meta wise; a lot of plots are driven with the PCs being forced to make the choices and the NPC are just in the background, to aid and give exposition when necessary..But, I ask you.."if you were in a dungeon and just destroyed a bunch of undead, would you let another undead walk in back of your group, the rest of the way through?" I wouldn't, and I darn well think Kyra wouldn't.
3. How can we be sure that this sphinx wasn't the one in control of the undead and the other guy, summoned the fire elementals to protect the library? Wouldn't it make more sense for undead to summon and deal with their kin? She indicated this other guy, to be some sort of construct.
4. Why are we agreeing to kill this other guy, without talking to him first? Because, we got good sense motive rolls? This is a sphinx we're dealing with, it specializes in riddles and lies! I mean, why exactly is he the bad-guy again? We're taking this creatures word for it that, he just went rogue...We could be; being used, to be a personal hit squad, for misses sphinx.
So I want to assure you I have never been spoiled on this scenario if I got any of this right. If I'm sending us "off the rails", from what I'm about to do..I apologize in advance. So it's more like the difference between simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese? (Although I should note: most peoples from Taiwan and Hong Kong can quite easily read the mainland's simplified Chinese..most of the younger generation (from the mainland) struggles with reading traditional Chinese.)
Are you in China now Helikon? I lived there for 5 years but, my mandarin is surprisingly bad for someone who lived there that long. (doesn't even qualify as chinglish..I call it 'taxi cab Chinese'. I get from to the airport to my appointment usually...without too much trouble and can ask where the restroom is and order a beer or coke in a restaurant without too much trouble..but , that's about it!)
