As you are now closer you find out that the Alcoves along the walls hold racks filled with scrolls filled with ancient poetry, but the cracked scroll cases are unable to resist the heat created by the
elementals.
You have a feeling you have almost no time left to decide the battle!
Sorc, Pal, Bard, rogue, Fighter
Bramble Whortham |
When you say alcoves, do you mean the two large ones on the left of the corridor, or are there smaller ones lining the whole right side?
As I could see one side, but not the other.
Bramble Whortham |
Delay until after Erwin,
"Erwin, step to your side! Coming through"
When there's a gap, I'd like to get past the remaining mummy, to the space next to Sparkred (one move action, 8 spaces, counting the extra 1 for diagonals round Kyra. Path drawn on for clarity).
I'm aware I'll risk AoO from both the elemental and mummy, but that's OK.
"Come on Kyra, I'll shield you!"
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 (Oh, dear)
Once there, (standard action) I'll grab as much as I can from the left hand alcove.
Free action to maintain courage.
Barm |
Barm moves one step 5ft step south east
He swings with his sword and hits the mummy.
to hit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
to hit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Erwin Whitemane |
Erwin hopped to the side, still unused to moving significantly faster. "I hope you know what you're doing, Bramble." he said as he exhaled a breath.
Seeing that the mummy is still standing despite the assault but clearly surrounded and the flame elemental was still raging, Erwin takes in a deep breath turns to face the elemental.
"We'll remove you from here next."
Attack1: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 14 + 2 = 25
Damage1: 1d8 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12
Haste attack: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 14 + 2 = 28
Damage Haste: 1d8 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10
Attack2: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 = 16
Damage1: 1d8 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 2 = 10
Barm |
Again I forgot haste attacks and bonuses, so I will roll now haste attack and you can add +3 to hit and +2 to damage to previous two attacks.
to hit - haste: 1d20 + 15 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 15 + 3 = 38
damage - haste: 1d8 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 3 = 19
to hit - confirm crit: 1d20 + 15 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 15 + 3 = 33
damage - confirm crit: 1d8 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 3 = 19

With his last attack Barm manages to destroy the mummy. You can hear something from south

Erwin Whitemane |
Erwin's blade was warm to the touch and sparks dissipated in the air as he readied himself for another round with the flame elemental. At the sound of an unfamiliar voice speaking, he risked twisting around momentarily to look behind him at the mummy's vanquished forms before spinning back ahead to see the elemental's vanish. "What was that? Did anyone else hear the names Saruna or Bardru?"
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
After waiting a moment he sheathed his blade again.
Bramble Whortham |
No Osiriani for me, I'm afraid.
I was going to collect as many scrolls together as I could, before they ignited, and worry about their contents later.
If no-one speaks Ancient Osiriani, I could cast comprehend languages from a scroll in my personal gear. But I'd wait to be sure we needed it first.
Bramble Whortham |
Did the elemental take a swing at me, as I ran past?
(AC 21, due to haste)
"Did their duration run out? Or were they dismissed?
And who lets loose a living flame, in a library?
Kyra / lucklesshero's pregen |
Kyra walks forward as the battle winds down. There is clearly something going on here that we don't understand. I think we should keep moving, there may yet be more danger ahead.
GM will assume it will be more than 6 min before my next encounter so I'll not only take haste off, but shield of faith as well. AC: is currently reflects no shield of faith spell.
Bramble Whortham |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
"If some or all of the inner doors are veiled, like the entrance, should we adopt a method of feeling along the walls for gaps?"
Bramble Whortham |
Time for a quick casting of remove fear on myself and Seoni, before we step in, in case the place is crawling with more undead.
Bramble Whortham |
"I'm ready to parlay, if everyone else is. Don't want Kyra going in alone."
(Which direction is this? Ahead, as in the direction we had been travelling, left to right?)
Kyra / lucklesshero's pregen |
sense motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
COREICPC |
She pulls out a scroll and reads the magic Srdsre sare feadr kfe she intones as the magic dissapates the scroll
Never know when this might come in handy she says as she now has the ability to fly.
Helikon |
She is a polite large size undead Mummified gynosphinx.
"I welcome you to the temple of tooth, my home for the last... oh well quite a few millenia. My name is Saruna. Oh do not be offended by my state, it was a prize I paid to... a well, I did not pay it gladly.
And without it, the knowledge of ages would be lost."
Erwin Whitemane |
Erwin stared unblinkingly at the mummified creature before him. "Then what occurred earlier, the fight between the elementals and those mummies... what did we interfere with?"
Bramble Whortham |
After remove fear on me and Seoni, I'll step through the doors, to be level with Kyra.
I did a Religion check above (22), to remember what I know about her religion (Thoth?).
But what do I recall of sphinxes? Hmm.
All knowledges except arcana and nobility are at +5, so add 10 if either apply.
Knowledge: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Kyra / lucklesshero's pregen |
GM I assume the sense motive Check I gave you result is Kyra thinks this creature's intentions are peaceful? If so I do greet it..if not the other action I had under the other spoiler.
Kyra steps forward, and ask Sarenrae for Guidance, Speak Saruna, what would you have us do for you? diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 12 + 1 = 20
Helikon |
@Kyra You think the creature is genuingly willingly to work peacefully with you.
@Bramble You know that Thot is the old osirian god of law , knowledge, justice and magic.
You also know that sphinxes are abberations who love to give riddles.
As Kyra is parlaying with Saruna she exhales.
"I apologise for the fight you witnessed and I thank you for aiding me against the undead. This was a fight between the minions I summoned and the ones created by Badru. Alas it is a fight between two apprentices. It went out of hand and I apologise.
Well, the library was sealed by the Amethyst Sage with his Sage jewel. Only a sage jewel can open it. But I think I have found a solution. I could make a flawed one, not a true one, but it might work. I will also gladly help you with the recovery of important historical objects!"
Her help gives you an automatical aid another in all rolls to gain preservation points."
Erwin Whitemane |
"I see. Well as it turns out, our goals are aligned. We have been tasked with coming here and either preserving or recovering lost historical objects by the current Diamond Sage, Tahonikepsu. We've been tasked with recording our findings. Your help will be appreciated."
Erwin paused for a moment, thinking.
"This Badru, if he is an apprentice like you, what Sage Jewel does he represent? Also, what has happened to make him want to destroy you? And is he going to continue to be a problem for us?"
Kyra / lucklesshero's pregen |
Kyra nods at Erwin's insightful questions in agreement and follows-up with one of her own, Do you have all you need for the creation of a flawed jewel? Kyra ask Saruna.
Helikon |
Saruna shrugs at Erwins question.
"We were booth Apprentices to the Amethyst sage."
To Kyras words she replies.
"Yes and no. We would need a special jewel to create the soul gem. And alas there are only two here in this complex. Believe me, we have searched. Bardu and I used to be friends and comrades. But, one gem is inside of me the other inside of him. You have to kill one to make the Sage jewel. And that is why we fight. If you were trapped for so long, you would be desperate, too! I do know how to purify the gem to make the jewel at least!"
