I am a new Starfinder GM (although pretty old hat with Pathfinder and others) and I am preparing to take my players through this Adventure Path and we are all pretty pumped as the Sun and the Burning Archipelago is one of the coolest parts of the Pact worlds!!
However, while skimming through my pdf copies of the adventure and looking at the Pawn collection as well, I can find no representation of the Breath of Embers starship, it is not listed in the product description.
My players will definitely want to claim it, and I cannot disagree as I think it is one of the coolest ship designs. (And the AP itself suggest salvaging and claiming it)
Does anyone know if there is an official pawn of the Breath of Embers? Or was it an oversight in the printing? And if so is there an un-official Token that you would recommend for use with our VTT? Thank you all in advance for your help, and Thank you Paizo peeps for continuing to make such amazing content!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hello! My wife and I will be two of your players on Sunday. Super excited and looking forward to it, it is our first Con!

Well I know you mentioned not wanting to commit to an Advenure Path for fear the group may become flaky...

But I would still heartily suggest checking out the AP series as many if not all of the Path installments can be run as stand alone adventures or you could use just one or two books and it would still provide a solid mini campaign arc.
Since you are using a homebrewed world the settings wont matter and they have excellent background and motivations for the storylines.
If you do decided to give them a chance my suggestion is look at Kingmaker, it is very not-dungeon crawly and the story can easily be broken up or modified into an existing campaign. Plus I find the prices pretty competative especially compared to the modules if that is a point of consideration.

I have not run Feat of Ravenmoor, but it is has high reviews and it sounds very good, and once again I feel it could easily be placed within Kingmaker and work very nicely. If you are trying to play straight Pathfinder I would avoid any 3.5 material, even though Pathfinder is backwards compatitable, I find that not everything converts easily and often taking straight 3.5 material will cause problems further down the line as CRs, XP, and stats become a little wonky due to PF changes.
My main thing to keep an eye out for was the classes are given a nice overall vs. 3.5 so characters will surprise you sometimes with their new or unexpected abilities. I hope this helps a little.
Have Fun!
Good Luck!

EDIT: I only now noticed how long ago your original post was "embarrassed face", read May vs. March- But my suggestion would still stand... and I hope your group had a lot of fun with whatever you chose ;-)

Hey all,

I have been away from the boards for a long while, and away from gaming as well due to some life Challeng Ratings being to strong for my meager Effective Character Level ;-) But anyway I have two questions and to give some background...

situation:
A friend and I are playing in a new Pathfinder game and my wife, the most wonderful woman in the world, is GMing for us. However she has very little time and is not as rules/game savvy as myself or many of our other gaming friends. Despite this she is an amazing GM and we are doing all we can to help her. She has asked that we find pre-written modules for her and she loves the detail and care given to all of the Paizo products, and other pre-written ones as well.-
Given that, our group has heard a ton of positive feedback about the Flight of the Red Raven and we would love to play through it, however it is written with the 3.5 ruleset and as I mentioned, my wife hasn`t timefrime, nor is she comfortable with the knowhow to covert the NPCs/encounters etc to the Pathfinder ruleset.

So my 2 questions...
1: Has someone already done a conversion to Pathfinder and is it online perhaps?
or
2: Would it be too much of a spoiler for me to update the NPCs/Monsters to Pathfinder for her? As in, from those with experience would it ruin the game for me to know some of what we shall face?

Thank you all for your advice and kind responses!

Thanks Again Alexander!! This has been sooo helpful and my players (some of whom I suspect own one or two of these modules) are always suprised by the challenge! This is an awsome piece of work!!

"Look the next time some one makes you angry just say,
"At least I don't have to play with Mr. Fishy!""

I want to play with Mr. Fishy!

@ Vanulf Wulfson
I do not feel that was called for. I was neither rude nor demanding and merely would love to see what Alexander Kilcoyne had worked up. His first conversion was a huge help as many here have attested to. I was simply asking as it had been some time since any post had been made. There is no reason to be snarky nor insulting!

I apologize to Alexander if he feels rushed or offended by my request- but I am not asking him to run my games nor do I appreciate the implication.

Not to be too poky but did we finally complete chapter 2? I apologize if I am being to nagging but My Pcs are knocking on the doors of the Adventure as it were and I would love to have a conversion before they start thwarting my schemes left and right :-).

I'd say you are doing a great job, you have great players and when you actually meet up it will go well. You are probably just worrying over nothing. I would just offer some suggestions about table interaction:

Your two players with devilish backgrounds may have to work harder to keep it a secret and/or deal with the interactions when people are physically present.

As for the rangers not telling the other characters what they have been doing- this can be an amazingly fun but can also be troublesome when you suddenly have everyone at the same table...It has always been my experience that trying to do lone expeditions can be hard with all my players present.

As for the Path itself- Its well written you have obviously done your background work. So just let them get into the spirit of the campaign and remember the true rule 0--

You are only doing it wrong when you guys stop having fun. Good Luck!

Thanks I was able to use the RGB format. Although I have always preferred IE over Firefox and others...:-P

I am having trouble viewing the links. Each time I click on it I get a blank explorer window with a little box with a red X in it. :-(

Does anyone know if I need a specific program or anything? I would love to view these maps! :-)

If the instructions are long or if someone has a saved image my email is schmaing003@yahoo.com- please help a poor non-internet savvy rpger out.

Thank you all for the cool work you have put into these by the way!

Indeed- not to be pushy but I would love to see the new conversion for chapter 2!

schmaing003@yahoo.com is my email if you need it. Again the first one rocked!!!

Actually James Jacobs commented on this exact topic in a previous thread... I couldn't find the link ... sorry. As our party does not have neutralize poison we have had to deal with lower level clean up spells like the lesser resto. On the other hand I like the new poison rule in PF. I think they make poisons more viable both for PCs and monsters with poison... however they can be overused.

I must say I feel that the Iconics are wonderful and have been great to look at throughout the APs... that being said I would much, much rather have MORE adventure, MORE treasure, MORE of everything you guys do that is so rocking awesome!! So if you have to remove the icons... here is a hug to all of them and then... shoves them out the door to make room for the MORE!!! :-)

Agreed- I would love to see some Pathfinder pre-painted minis! I have many older wizards DnD ones but I find that with 4th edition stiving to be as non OGL compata-friendly the new wizards minis are harder to use for my games.

I have to go on record as stating I agree with the OP's protests and that the wording of this feat leaves a lot of potential for abuse.

However I also must state that I think the tone set in the beginning was a bit harsh.

At my tables items like this feat rarely cause too much issue and I have to admit it is because I am often the first one to attempt many of the above exloits :-). And so as the GM I am also one of the first to openly admit that I have to house-rule on certain feats for game balance. My group plays pretty High Power games anyway but I think hurricane winds with the PCs wandering safely through could get a bit excessive. My real only additions to the discussion are:

1- in agreement with this feat needs re-wording or errata
2- its okay to be very heartfelt and I understand getting worked up about a game you love but starting with negativity often leads to more negativity.
3- changing the wording to affect only instant spells as previously mentioned seems a decent fix for now.

Finally #4- you are only playing the game wrong when you and your players stop having fun... if your players wanted to run around with hurricanes all around them and slaughter all enemies by being immune to black tentacles and such- AND you as GM did not mind then go ahead... I can just imagine the battles in such conditions ;-P

This guide has been a life saver to me and my party! I want to say THANK YOU- I haven't had a lot of time and so updating myself was becoming a serious headache. This guide was well written very easily explained and I actually enjoyed updating the treasure myself as it allowed me to customize a bit. Thank you again!!
My group has just finished the Stag Lord's fort and we are just beginning to look at the second installment. I eagerly await your update for the second installment.

"Fine, since we have to be absurd.
The Paladin decides to save rocks instead of a Human child in a fire.
This is obviously not going to net him approval from any other standard PC race. Has he violated his code?"

Not to start any moral or racial debates here but if the character is a Paladin in PF then race doesn't matter- Racism is evil so choosing who to save based upon race would automatically violate the Paladin's oath. Paladin's should not be allowed to be racist... note yes they hate evil outsiders yada yada but that is not racism but a battle vs. evil if we found a good devil/demon then this gets more complicated. So it doesn't matter who the diety is or what race the Paladin is- they would attempt to save everyone to the best of their ability- much like the previous mention of Superman... sometimes he isn't fast/strong/or smart enough but every failure fuels his drive to continue to help people.

To the OP's question is the above mentioned Paladin is crazy and saves the rock and so the child gets squished he has violated his oath because he let an innocent die. Anytime the Paladin allows innocents to die because of his actions or inactions he will have to atone. The above burning house example he would not violate his oath should some children not make because he is still "trying" to save them... If the crazy Paladin believes that all rock's are sentient and therfore he merely saved a rock because he thought it would be destroyed/killed and then the above mentioned child died... you could argue he was "trying" to save both... but this is a game should you allow a player to use insanity as an excuse to not follow the specific tenents of the class they are using? And even if rocks are sentient and have souls... they are also alot, alot tougher than people and as such I think he should know that and help the squishable child first.

Just my two cents - no matter what you decide gamewise, morally or otherwise as long as you are having fun then you are doing it right... when it stops being fun for you or your fellow players then you may want to re-think it. ;-)

Actually be double sure you have the funds- they charged me for both already. The same day I recieved the pending email... note it may have been the next morning I was charged, but either way I was lucky I had the funds for the extra book in my account :-)
Side note- if I was charged- usually the PDFs are available right away- anyone else have this issue?

I am going to go devil's advocate on this one as I have always run with the extra d6 does multiply- I just count the sylvan scimitar as a special weapon that while outdoors/temperate setting does 2d6 damage standard much like a greatsword. Then again this is merely my interpretation and while my players have enjoyed it some may not and the only real rule you have to worry about is if you stop having fun with the game then you did it wrong. :-)

That is correct. However, if you were responding to my post, I was specifically talking about Bane weapons.

Graywulfe

I believe if you have an orcbane and human bane weapon, both would apply. Half orc count as both for these purposes so both weapon enhancement trigger when you strike/shoot/etc them. Its not from the same source either, they are different enhancements."

While I agree that it seems to work in RAW I would not allow human bane and orc bane on the same weapon to stack nor would I allow elf bane and human bane on a weapon to stack-
My ruling on this is simple I feel it would punish any players attempting to choose Half-Orc and Half-elf. Now I know it may not come up that often but if Half-breeds can take double the bane then suddenly all of the Half-breeds of the world are looking at a potentialy broken combo-nation of purist elves, orcs or humans hunting and slaughtering them wholesale...
Then again I do not think the OP intends to be doing this in his game and so perhaps for a scary Baddie letting them stack is not that bad... just remember though that once you open said can of worms it can spiral out of control. :-)

Hey all- I just recieved my Kingmaker map folio and I am trying to reconcile the small maps-the big maps- and the river kingdoms map to have an accurate and properlly rotated map- I am having some troubles however and was wondering if anyone has done this yet and could give me either some pointers or maybe even have a picture. I am not quite sure how the final "hexed" map would/is supposed to look.

Bad Visualizer is me :-)

I found the stats for the Sword Briar in the end of the Path and it states that it will become stronger as more evil fey are killed... I was wondering if these extra powers and so forth are directly tied to the final segment of the AP and if its possible to know ahead of time if it safe to let my player(s) attempt to weild it? I think one of my players would be thrilled to have a powerful Bastard Sword with ties to the Fey world.

I assume you are referencing some 3.5 fiction? That doesn't apply anymore 100% with items of Pathfinder, as one my players found out to his chagrin yesterday with the windows from the Robe of Useful Items."

Actually I am referencing R.A. Salvatore's novels- most written before 3.5 and many including this one I believe (Exile I think) written before 3.0- My response is not based upon any rules set but upon this item being used by a character in literature and in literature it worked just fine inside a contained space. :-)
Now yes this is a Forgotten Realms setting book and therefore may not be Pathfinder but then again I doubt an official rule is needed for this situation either... unless of course the players want to use an Instant Fortress as some sort of weapon... lols now I am considering the possibilities! :-)

Note However I am not a member of your group and do not know what style you like to play with. If you are worried about this ability messing up your dungeons I would just dissallow it in an area that cannot fit it. Like a room with 10ft high walls is just too small but maybe the dwarven stronghold with 30-40ft high may be big enough. :-)

According to RAW people do not get a Will save just because the spell belongs to a specific school and invisibility does not allow a save to "see through it"- however if your entire party of players wishes to house rule that invisibility can be dis-believed then go right ahead... but be warned this is a very slippery slope.
Many creatures use invisibility such as fey, high level casters (not just illusionists) and some magical beasts if your players can see through this just by Will saving, then the dynamic of these encounters is changed.

Remember the most important rule is having fun with your friends. If you want to change invisibility then go right ahead if it makes your game more enjoyable. Just remember it changes the way the game functions as well :-)

"No plan survives impact with player characters, goes the old saying. So when one of my two parties returned from a particularly unproductive exploration (had a run in with 6 Trolls and had to run away), after several months of just struggling to keep their Barony afloat, and found themselves having to defend themselves from Gregori's accusations, they hit on a novel solution the Event: Rabble-rouser doesn't seem to plan for.

They gave him the crown, saying "if you think you can do better, you're welcome to do so."

Now, I'm already getting evil ideas on how to play this out: the new Baron sending them on various quests to get them killed, or at least out of the way for prolonged periods of time - I've been itching for an excuse to work in Carrion Hill for instance - while in turn he can start a war with the neighboring rival PC kingdom, but I thought I'd toss this out and see what other thoughts folks might have to this particular curve ball.

For one thing, the PC Baron was a Paladin. Does this count as a breach of Alignment? Certainly it isn't an evil act, but it could be considered a serious breach of oaths taken as leader to protect the colonists and be a part of the feudal system (which is all about oaths of fealty and such), never mind the fact that he did this pretty much on impulse, without consulting the rest of his court. The one not particularly lawful or good PC in the party did attempt to start a fight with Gregori, and the Paladin planted himself between the two, vowing to defend his decision (and his new Baron). On the flip side, he & the party then promptly plotted to lead a revolution to overthrow him if he proves a bad ruler."

This sounds like an Evil DM's dream... however I must ask what type of game do you want to run?
It sounds like your players have been having a rough time as it is with the Kingmaker path and it sounds like the Paladin threw up his hands and said $*&^ it! lolz
The question remains though do you want to run Kingmaker? or Are you and your players just there to have a good time? If your players and yourself want to continue the Kingmaker storyline then I wouldn't let Gregori get too comfortable. As it stands they are no longer in charge and thus many of the future events will have no affect on them.
If on the other hand your game is all about the fun and you want to make the players have an even more difficult time then I would let Gregori just hand the new kingdom to Pitax and he gains a noble title and Pitax has more land... now the PCs are freedom fighters... or merely adventurers in a corrupt government... Maybe Brevoy sees this and sends troops...

I would say 5,000 gold for an egg or fresh wyrmling. I assume they are selling and so the buyer has to worry about training and so forth. This is for a White of course... If it was a red.... the danger alone would put it around 8-10,000 in my opinion.
However as a DM you want to safely limit the player wealth I assume. But I think 5,000 would work what level are the PCs?

Can't Wait SOOOOO Excited.... AHHHHH!

I remember there was a semi official ruling on the boards here a little while back... but I cannot recall which thread or forum name.

I do remember the ruling was they do not stack- I think the argument was something similar to multiple enhancement bonuses cannot stack. Or something similar... I believe the spirit of the feat is for those that wish to smack with there shield they can get a bonus to the hit and damage that they otherwise lose out on vs. TWF normaly.

And yes allowing them to stack would lead to all sorts of evil Tom Foolery and we don't want him running around again ;-)

Thank you. It clears things up.

So in one of our new campaigns we ran into a question about wether or not weapon finesse works with only one weapon or it it can now be applied to any and all light weapins that allow finesse? I am inclined to believe that you must choose a weapon and stick with it but I also cannot find in Pathfinder RAW if it says that. Can anyone help a man out?

[...] Leather armor is actually strong and stiff, having been hardened in boiling oil and then stretched over a wooden or stone model of a man's or woman's chest."

And then on page 8: "Studded leather armor has little in common with normal leather armor. While leather armor is a hardened shell, studded leather armor is soft and supple with hundreds of metal rivets affixed. The rivets are so close together that they form a flexible coating of hard metal that turns aside slashing and cutting attacks. The soft leather backing is little more than a means of securing the rivets in place."

While the description of leather armor remains consistent between the A&EG and the PF Core Rules, studded leather is described as "[s]imilar to leather armor, this suit is reinforced with small metal studs." My big question mark would then be is PFRPG studded leather actually different in nature than it was in pervious editions, or is the explanation given just not the most accurate."

I would argue that by the AD&D page 8 reading above that Studded Leather was more about the metal and less the leather so Mithril Studded Leather would be just fine! :-)
As for the PFRPG reading it becomes shaky- but I would allow it as in historical studded leather it was the studs that made the difference not the leather- historical is closer to the AD&D description.

I don't think the game is TOO dependent upon magic items. But it is dependent if you want to run it as it is expected to be run. The CR system and the RAW expect the PCs to have X amount of wealth in gear to handle CR appropriate bestiary creatures. This is a fantasy setting since we have people fighting mythological monsters such as demons, dragons and so forth we have to expect they weild items that enhance their abilities as humans no matter how skilled will have a hard time fighting off that fire breathing, genius level intelligent, and massively strong Dragon! ;-)

Now I think Pathfinder has actually reduced dependency on many of the basic stat builders and so forth by providing the classes, in my opinion all of the classes, with abilities that scale with the level and played properly can be useful from level 1 to 20.

But if you are asking for a game without magic items, I would suggest actually looking at another system as Pathfinder and the old 3. editions are require items to work properly with out heavy re-writing.
EDIT: note that yes if you run with almost all NPC villians you can be quiet a bit more balanced but I would also have to say if you run few magic items then casters become a little OP vs. Fightery types... then again maybe the fighter will make more saves.

Just my 2 cents- but then again I have yet to find magic items game breaking or troublesome. Remember if you do decide to change the way treasure and magic items are handled in your game- you are only doing it wrong if you stop having fun!

I agree I believe the bard may be one of the most versatile character classes ever created. They can cast a mix/match of arcane and some divine spells as arcane without light armor penalty- they have UMD and the CHA to power it and while they buff and support a party they can easily solo with the mid level attack progression and access to self buff and healing!

Final tally I want a party of Bards... but then again maybe not,... that many high CHA personalities could be trouble lol :-)

I swore that in 3.ed RAW energy attacks automatically hit incorporeal creatures. Then again this was 3.ed and not PF and I may have this completely wrong but I think incorporeal creatures should take energy damage such as fire, cold, elec, and yes sonic... No one is immune to sonic, not even the 3.ed dieties, they had to take resistance lolz

Actually unless I am mistaken spell damage already bypasses incorporeal nature. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise (such as a spell saying it does bludg. or pierc. damage) I would rule the spell as obviously an energy attack of some nature and therefore the Shadow in question takes full damage. Maybe not the extra for vulnerability to bright light but def. full spell damage.

I have to disagree on this point as brighter illumination reduces how much area shadows can cover and use... as this creature is not "made of shadows" I don't think they take extra damage but I am pretty sure they would be most uncomfortable in this spell's area, much like a daylight spell.

Our Kingmaker Campaign started last night!! The first game was a blast with suicidal Bandits, greased Kobolds and perception-less Dwarves!

Our Kingmaker party ended up being 6 players

Glanglau- A Dward Fighter who dual weilds sheilds and is seeking his missing clan, as the dwarves disapeared from Brevoy. Gruff and a bit Uncouth he is hiding a heart of gold!

Kyler Stern- Elf Rogue trained in the arts of assassination close friend to the future ruler of the new Kingdom. An orphan he seeks to find his parents and perhaps get Vengance against those who killed them!

Acheron- Human Bard last remaining heir to the Brevoy throne in hidding for fear of whatever caused his family's strange disapearance. Destined to be Ruler of a new Kingdom!

Lucion- Human Cleric of Caiden Cailean Devout protector and redeemed Brigand. Seeking to bring the freedom and brotherhood of his god to all he encounters.

Serah- Halfling Ranger and escaped slave from Chelix. Hopes to provide a safe haven for those running from the injustice of Slavery.

Weeloc- Elf Wizard and Conjurer seeking to make his name after leaving his arcane schooling as only second in his class. Has a severe hatred of all things Illusionary and refuses to trust such "Tom Foolery"!

Aldori School = Niten Ichi-ryu
"Swordlord" = "Samurai"

The Guide to the River Kingdoms makes it pretty clear that the Aldori from Mivon don't like those from Brevoy, and neither of them like the ones from the Rostlands. To think they're all the same seems pretty simplistic. I think people get too hung up on the concept of a "school" being a physical place and specific ideology."

My only disagreement with this is the fact that all of the Samurai were loyal to both the same Emperor, ruler of all Japan, and the same Shogun, military leader or all Japan. Now many different clans had samurai that did not like eachother and there were some unaffiliated wanderers such as Musashi. Yet all of them were loyal to the same Country/Emperor/Shogun. And note that Rostland's Swordlords are the same as Brevoy's as Rostland is part of Brevoy. Issia didn't have Swordlords like Rostland did.

This is a tricky one and I don't think the rules were originaly meant to create such a thing :-) However in my opinion I would charge 2500gp for 5lbs half the original weight but still reasonable for the fact that you are joining a mithral sword to an adamantine sword. And then remember that the Adamantine cost should be the standard as well. This would be a very special crafting... as I assume both metals have different temperatures and methods of smithing involved.
And of course always remember rule #1 As long as you and your friends are having fun you are not doing anything wrong.

This is interesting. I wonder what this means for playing a Dragon as a Chracter... hmmm the possiblities begin to form

I am a little late in joining here and I don't have my bestiary handy but I am unsure how a CR 4 creature is the same as a ChL 4 character. Note the CR is a basis of what 4 ChLs of the same # can defeat roughly 4 to 5 times in a day before needing rest...
Now I was not a fan of the 3.0/3.5 edition version for monsters as chars. but I do not think a creature with 6HD and the ability score bonuses and the special abilities of a Genie is equal to a regular level 4 chracter despite wha the CR may say. Now I don't have my Bestiary handy so as I said I cannot be sure what the new rules state but this seems to me that everyone will be playing Monsters as Characters now if CR is equal to starting level.

Hey everyone I am a new poster long time lurker and we are starting the Kingmaker AP next week. I was looking over the exploration rules and the hex grid they provide and saw how it corresponds to the hex map of the Kamelands in the first AP adventurwe. My question is does anyone have a copy of that hex map showing the Kamelands only minus the markers such as the Stag Lord's fort and such? I think it would most useful for my players when trying to do their own Hex map.

And thank you!! for the cool wanted posters and the copy of the charter it looks awesome!
