Background:
Kugu was born deep in the jungles of Mwangi. As a youth, Kugu’s tribe was attacked by the ‘demon apes’, the Angazhan-worshipping charau-ka. Like many other tribes, they moved to the Sodden Lands and attempted to make a new life for themselves.
When Kugu was old enough he apprenticed with one of the hunters from his tribe. The elder grippli was wise in the ways of the jungle and swamp and taught Kugu all he could about living in the wilds. His weapon’s teacher, wishing to ensure the youth was skilled in melee as well as ranged weapons, pushed him hard to practice with both equally until he was adapt with either form of combat. After several years of intense training, Kugu was ready to brave the wilds alone.
Wishing to return to the tribe’s old home, Kugu returned to the depths of the jungle. He fought many charau-ka on his trek ‘home’, but when only a few leagues from the old village, one of the ‘King Apes’ confronted him and nearly ended his life. Badly wounded, and being chased by the ‘King Ape’s’ charau-ka followers, Kugu almost did not return from his first adventure. But return he did, and after several months of rest and healing, he was back to his old self.
