Kov'i was found as an infant by a pair of Ysoki Solarioans (who were also priests of Sarenrae) on a shuttle surrounded by what they assumed was his dead family. Believing in the power of redemption, and always wanting a child of their own one day, they adopted him and decided to see if they could turn him from the violent path his species seemed doomed to travel.
Kov'i grew up tall and straight with loving parents who taught him to serve the goddess, and that each being deserved not only a chance to prove itself, but a chance to atone for those wrongs it had committed. He was a teen when he first manifested his solar armor, which shielded him during a fight at school. Afraid his parents wouldn't understand, he hid what happened from them and said nothing.
This went on for a while as Kov'i struggled to understand what was happening to him. His parents secretly knew, but respected that he would need to gain this knowledge for himself for it to have value, so they pretended not to notice. Finally, unable to learn anything meaningful on his own, he went to his parents, sobbing from over a year of frustration about how he was cursed by the goddess.
His parents explained what was happening to him and began to teach him in earnest about his abilities and how to control them.
When he came of age, he completed his online study courses and became an officially sanctioned priest of Sarenrae. His parents could not have been prouder. They were, however, troubled when he said that he wanted to take the lady's word to those who did not know the path of redemption. They had not forseen that he would become a missionary, but they supported him anyway. They used their savings to get him a berth on a ship doing a sightseeing tour of the pact worlds. They also explained that he should only use his abilities in times of great need, as not everyone would be so understanding about them.
It seemed that each planet Kov'i stopped on had some sort of crisis that required him to use his abilities to protect the innocent or vanquish the evil.
It was during a raid with several other heroes on a shadow respository that he was captured by unknown parties and taken to the asteroid where he had been imprisoned...
