Kirag awoke screaming from his bedroll on the forest floor. It was the same dream, some tentacle horror lashing itself about in some slimy landscape were all objects seemed alive and filled with hate. Kirag had the horrible dreams since childhood and was always told they were just dreams. As he took a swig of fermented mushroom & honey homemade spirits, he thought it hadn't stop one of the horrors from entering into this plane of existence and killing his family. This entire country of Ustav was filled with all manners of evil. He looked around and saw it was near daydreak, time to pack his meager positions and make the last leg of the journey to the funeral.

Kirag silently begun the long march up a dusty muddy forgotten rural road. He thought grimly while looking around, so much of the swampy grassland here still remains tainted even after the last few years of work here. There was still much to plant to replace the missing grasses and so much water to attempt to clean somehow. "It looks it will have to remain undone" whispered Kirag to himself. "I must attend the funeral of an excellent teacher to me" .
He had thought killing the Kobolds and their "god" they burned and poisoned the waters around the area would have brought nature back into alignment. The kobold's god was some sort of mutated enert Stirge, the eggs which the kobolds stupidly planted all area poisoned the cleanest waters. Worst, the mutated stirge larva died horribly after birth from the egg and spread the contagion thru the food chain. The kobolds failed attempts at a bonfire in wake the "god" did about as much damage to the area.
Kirag heads in direction of the professor's funeral.

Forget to mentioned Minesight as an alternative Dwarven racial trait taken. The business about the hands is wildshape manifesting early. The business about the youthful business is the blight druid manifesting itself early.

Kirag's family was one of the few dwarven merchant clans peddling wares inland in Ustalav from the capital port of Caliphas. It being a dark, dangerous country and somewhat xenophobic country it was a difficult life. According to some of the clan, Kirag was born accursed. The rumors being the evil in this strange land tainted him in the womb. He was born with two strange deformities. First, his eyes were strangely Icy blue almost to the point of being purely white and the eyes seemed to almost find bright light unbearable. Kirag can see in full darkness extremely well, even by dwarven standards. Secondly, his hands were almost talonlike with an extra knuckle in each finger. The hands further appeared to transmute into animal like claws at odd times. Thirdly he appeared to almost die several times from horrible diseases as a child but the diseases somehow healed themselves after healers & clerics said there was no hope. The diseases left scars on his arms of pox marks and blemishes.
During his teens (Dwarven terms), finding it difficult to find a master willing to apprentice the boy, his parents found a tutor of sorts in an aging elvish druid named Kelver. The Druid educated the boy in the natural arts which were always of interest to Kirag prior to the family meeting Kelver. During his coming of age into adulthood ceremony, a strange aberration attacked the clan and killed many of the clan and Kirag's parents. Kirag, somehow killed the beast by shooting a black ray from his hands that rotted and blotted the beast from the inside out. Kirag had to leave the clan after this incident
Professor Lorrimar, hearing of the strange deformities of the dwarf, asked to study the anomalties and speak of the incident. Kirag having no where else to go, accepted. That began a long correspondence which ended recently with the Professor's death.
