Let me retcon a bit using a jarring, cinematic cutscene that postpones the ending of Ollesendre's unlife.

In the brief time after the oni was felled like a big, ghostly cherry blossom tree—and before Ollesendre was dispatched by the rogue—Kevaras bows, and offers the ghostly eladrin the following explanation:

"The answer to the riddle of the drow paladin is this: As an orphan in an exiled drow community I was raised by the Darkspire Monks of Thaun, and sent off to the Underdark trading hub of Gateway (before it was destroyed). I found my way to the surface and rid the village of Muckleford of its monster problem that was threatening it and the nearby Lethernan monastery. My wife and I serve the Raven Queen, and protect the villagers from bandits and drow incursions."

And concerning Hospitaller's Blessing, I wasn't sure either. But I think it does apply to each of Iji's attacks, judging by all the complaints on the Web about it being perceived as too powerful.

Kevaras channels the might of the Raven Queen to aid the rogue.

Effect: Don regains 28 hit points.

Kevaras has always been curious about lightning from the sky, ever since he laid eyes on such phenomena, and thus knows better than to hit spheres of it with a metal sword whilst wearing metal armour.

Resist 3 ends, move action to shift to K12, minor action to Divine Challenge Ollesendre.

Compel Obedience on Ollesendre
1d20 + 21 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 21 + 2 = 24 vs Will.
3d8 + 9 ⇒ (5, 6, 8) + 9 = 28 damage.
Hit: I shift to J12 and pull Ollesendre to K12.

Ollosendre, on the other hand, seems resigned. Now nose to nose with his ancestral enemy, he bows slightly.

"This is not an honourable battle and I am compelled. Discussion of your potential existance is more appealing."

Kevaras seems as resigned as the eladrin.

"I'll tell you about it later." Using free actions, and after I've read up on the matter.

Divine Sanction ends at EOT.

"Hey Platemail, need a potion? Big Guy?"

Don offers a potion of Regeneration(heroic) to the defenders

"I'm good, thanks. You might want to stand a bit closer (within 5 squares), as I have something that might help against the acid, the next time you puncture that vitriolic windbag."

I can slide any allies in the burst up to five squares

I would like to take advantage of this one time offer, and slide to J11.

The paladin cashes in on doubts of his existence to sneak further up the stairs.

The drow heads towards the other, quieter staircase; before bumping into something around the corner.

"You!" feigning surprise and outrage, the paladin asks, "why can't you take the other staircase?"

Minor: Deliverance of Faith to gain 28 HP and resist 3 until SONT.
Move to N8. Charge to L10 using Ardent Strike.

"I'll focus on the overly eager one. Old mate there (Ollesendre, whom I assume is the ghostly eladrin) might be reluctant to fight anyone except me."

"Avarosh, Avarosh? Don't think I know that one, but I'm sure someone will, and I can always ask Moradin next time I'm talking to him to send me a sign. Now, let's see." Guldarin drops his pack, pulls out his holy symbol, and starts praying in Dwarvish over the remains of the King.

Kevaras solemnly delivers a brief eulogy for the late King Holdred.

"I hadn't known old Holdred for very long. In fact, we'd only just met in this very room. However in that brief time I knew him as a fired-up, guardian with a great sense of humour. Let's remember Holdred for the things he loved: axes, beards, beer, precious minerals, and underground architecture."

The paladin steps next to the beleaguered warden (move to P14), throws his dagger at the monarch…

Ranged Basic Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22 vs AC.
1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 damage.

…heals the goliath with a healing hand…
Minor Action: Lay on Hands.
Greeg regains HP equal to his surge value.
Kevaras has Resist 3 until SONT.

…and catches the dagger as it returns.

Takes 10 fire damage at end of turn.

Holdred needs to take damage from Kevaras as well for the Divine Challenge.

That's 12 radiant damage from Divine Challange.

I forgot to mention on my turn that Greeg's mark on Holdred, King of Avarosh was superseded by my divine challenge on His Majesty.

"Let's get you closer to the Raven Queen," he tells the king. Divine Challenge on Holdred.

The drow moves closer and throws his dagger in an arcing trajectory over the goliaths.

Ranged Basic Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32 vs AC.
1d4 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 damage.

The big Goliath hadn't felt this angered since the time the Drow had hurt Cronin the second time he and the cleric had travelled together.

"Uh, those drow didn't throw daggers I hope?" asks Kevaras, making sure that his choice of weapon was not inappropriate.

Kevaras draws his Bard's song dagger. Minor action.

He moves to Q9.

"So this is the portal?" he asks, while pointing to the 20ft. circle. "And disabling it will permanently break the curse and allow you to seek your final reward, your majesty?"

I'd like to use my standard action to examine the portal with a skill check.

Initiative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

The paladin is busy humming a tune he heard earlier.

"Never know when there's something there of use. Bookshelves, beds, the privy...Once I found a handful of gold after killin a sheep!"

"It's true. Whether it's inside sheep or spider, no treasure is safe."

Knowing hardly any words of Giant, Kevaras waits to the side of the door while Cronin knocks.

Buoyancy shouldn't be a problem for me, thanks to my floaty shield. It's a yellow shield "enamelled with images of ocean waves."

The temptation for Guldarin to notice he's being surreptitiously checked out by Keveras, and leap to a conclusion about why, is one that must be resisted. Or not.

If Kevaras were to take Guldarin home with him to Alythiira, she would either kill him or braid his beard. Neither is a good outcome for Guldarin, I think.

"Well, thank you for being so candid. If the Cult of Rebirth is as amicable as you are, then there shouldn't be any misunderstandings at the Corpse Commons."

Suspicious that the dwarf is talking even faster than usual, Kevaras examines the invoker for early signs of the berserker rage.

"I believe the stories. It is a vicious plant and like the Trignotarbs, does not officially exist. If that too is awakened, then Kaima's time does indeed draw near. It is time to make contact with the Cult of Rebirth."

"Thiir, why would Kagush and Gafto refuse to believe the existence of the Trignotarbs, if they are a sign of Kaima's return?"

"Oh, and you should probably know that our definition of 'make contact' ranges from dialogue to the application of the business end of a weapon. I get the impression that Kagash feels the Cult of Rebirth is merely misguided, and would frown upon the killing of fellow oklu."

Near the centre, a group of blue-skinned oklu are holding court, settling disputes among their comrades. At Gafto's approach, one of them looks up and smiles a greeting.

"How quaint! They're resolving disputes with words instead of daggers," remarks the drow, after having grown a bit tired of violence.

"I'm beginning to like the eastside already, presuming we're not being led away to detention again."

He lay the javelin down too, having to do so twice after forgetting to deactivate the returning magic imbued within the weapon.

Haha! Good one! :D

Kevaras reluctantly hands over his weapon to the gatekeeper.

Kevaras makes a half-hearted show of trying to hold back the bandit, while saying to the gatekeeper, "You'd best come clean with what you know, I don't know if I can hold him back."

The eastern gatekeeper's hands go to his weapon and he spins accusingly to Kagash, shouting in startled Giant.

"So, do the eastern oklu believe that the Kadrana will not return at all? Or do they seek a means to hasten the return of the Kadrana?" inquires the paladin.

"Yeah, you don't want to drink that, I tried one and it was..."

He grimaces at Kevaras, "Yeah....sort of like a cross between the tempering barrel of a blacksmith's forge, and stagnant sewage runoff..."

Having narrowly avoided death twice in one day; Kevaras celebrates by raiding his own supply of ale, the kind handcrafted by monks of the Raven Queen. The drow clutches his head, while nursing a hangover.

"This thing..." He gestures to it, "This thing needs to be a trophy or something. You know, make a good knife out of its fangs or something."

Your trophy sounds like a good source of roleplaying potential in the form of an intelligent item.

Could do that, but the ring has actually been on my wishlist, if Kevaras doesn't feel strongly.

Yeah, the gloves are on my wishlist, and should allow even more use out of my surges.

Market gang, how's the leveling up going? I know Cronin and Don are done.

The bandit strolls back towards the paladin, perhaps a gleam of respect in his sole eye finally. Perhaps a mutual understanding, that underneath the drow's flippant remarks, and Don's not so subtle scorn that they did work together as a team well enough, that maybe there was something more than just a job here, maybe...maybe there was the beginning of some sort of camraderie, and a purpose, a purpose beyond the grifter lifestyle...

"I'll be having that potion back if you didn't use it."

"I suppose you deserve a drink," says the paladin as he hands the potion back.

He grabs two mugs from a passing oklu waiter carrying celebratory drinks, intending to drink both himself, but offers one of them to the rogue.

Kevaras moves to M16 and throws his dagger in the general direction of Aedre.

Kevaras draws and throws his distance dagger in a lazy arc that passes harmlessly over Don and Aedre. Minor and Standard actions. The wayward blade reappears back in the drow's hand.

Kevaras sheaths his sword and follows the rest of the group and their prey.

Heal 10 from hitting Aedre with Darkfire earlier, lose 5 hp from the aura.

Perhaps it's tiredness, but Kevaras is starting to think he's just chopping the constituents of the swarm into smaller and smaller spiders a la the Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Kevaras' eyes widen with realisation, "Oh my (Raven) Queen! My Alythiira says the same thing! Though with more sarcasm and exasperation."

He smiles, imagining his wife hurriedly ferrying lambs, two at a time to the storm cellar, to protect them from the encroaching giant spiders and sand giants.

"Oh, you shouldn't have," says the plate-clad drow as he accepts Don's potion, hoping it isn't spider pheromone.

"That's the spirit! Onward… to death or glory!" declares the paladin, jubilantly.

Now that Kevaras has pointed it out, Andaros too is aware of the noise. So too are the guarding oklu, who start to look concerned.

The drow sits up to gauge the direction the sound is coming from.

He appeals to the oklu, "Your people need assistance. I know your task is to ensure our protection, but don't you think the safety of the city is paramount? We can help you, and the best thing is that you don't have to take your eyes off us."

Kevaras does not bother getting up from his bunk, and continues to trance/stare at the ceiling.

"What's all that commotion? I thought this was supposed to be the hour of rest!"
