About Kaval Treehopper

History:
Kaval once belonged to a small tribe of Grippli that made their homes in the outskirts of Kyonin, but an incursion of demons sent by Treerazer forced his clan to disperse and flee. Kaval was on the run for days, harried by vrocks, but eventually found respite in Kenabres.

Injured and exhausted, Kaval made his way through unfamiliar streets, hoping to find anyone else that was lucky enough to escape his home. Eventually, he collapsed in exhaustion. When he awoke, he found himself in a warm bed, with a middle-aged couple watching over him nearby.

Fred and Olive Hannigan are cartographers, who had lost all three of their children some years earlier in a demonic attack while surveying the ever changing lands outside the city. When Kaval regained his strength and began to help with the household chores in exchange for their help, the couple decided to adopt the young grippli. Kaval took to his new life quickly, and began training with the local militia as soon as he was old enough, vowing to be prepared to defend his new family when tragedy strikes again.

Two years ago, a bright light flared up on the backs of Kaval's hands during a particularly grueling sparring session. He found himself alive with a pulsing energy, striving for release. On his left hand was a symbol he knew well, for the radiant sword of Iomedae was featured prominently in many places in Kenabres. On his right, the brown spots on his skin had been bleached a pale yellow and had rearranged themselves into a strange spiral that seemed to twist as he looked at it. With his master's leave and his parents' help, he scoured the libraries in Kenabres until he found that the strange symbol was in fact the Sign of the Seeker's Spiral; a symbol that indicated that he was a direct descendant of a riftwarden.

Prior to the attack that shattered his villaged, Kaval had been raised by his grandmother, and was told that his parents had been killed by demons shortly after he was hatched. Curious about the possibility that his birth parents could have been riftwardens, Kaval's research eventually revealed that a pair of grippli riftwardens had passed through Kenabres 21 years earlier with several other riftwardens on "a task of dire importance," but had not been heard from since. Kaval hopes to one day discover what became of his lost biological parents, but for now is content to continue his training so that he can defend his adopted community.

Appearance:
Kaval Treehopper is a slim grippli, 2'3" tall, with dark green skin and small brown splotches on his back and arms. He wears simple clothing and is soft spoken, though when he speaks of about his fledgling magical abilities his yellow eyes seem to glow with a faint white light.
