Karnicore seeing his packmate in danger, pounces on the bull.
Gore: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Claw: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Claw: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Rake: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Rake: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Rend (if both claws hit): 1d4 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
DM's choice, I've stated my two cents. I'm in games that run both ways, B is muuuuuch more work for the DM. If he's down with sorting out all the timing every time he wants to update then it doesn't matter to me. Edit:If there's going to be PVP we should use B though. Edit edit: Also, if we are going to do A, and run things in blocks, DM should roll once for each monster. So the party all rolls, and then the bunnies roll four times. Whichever bunny is highest would be compared to whichever player is highest. If you don't do it like that, the players go first almost all the time.
Having run with B in all my games for almost a year, and then switching to A I have to vote A. It works muuuuuuch better for PBP. No retconning, no people posting descriptions of their actions based off other people's actions that haven't "happened" yet. No waiting to post your action, when you have time to be on and post you can. As long as high roller sets party initiative it doesn't punish people who spend resources to get a high initiative bonus. It's also much faster.
Gore AOO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Karnicore swimpes out at the first rabbit with his horny crest. Then he lashes out again at the next closest rabbit. Gore: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Claw: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 Claw: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Karnicore pounces on the plant tearing at its base, trying to rip the plant from the floor. Gore: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
So probably 15 damage after its hardness. Gore: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Gore: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
He continues to gnaw and tear at the base until it rips free.
It's a great way to do things, I often do so in my games. Works well for knowledge checks against monsters, or perception checks as well. For example... DC 5 perception:
Karnicore lets off a barely audible squeaky fart. Karnicore, seeing the door open, steps off the button. When the door closes again, he says "How can we hold this button down?"
A chanting can be heard from within one of the gestation pods for about a minute, then there is a flash of light and silence. A moment later a shimmering semi-tralucent quadrupedal predator emerges. It shrugs and wiggles its way awkwardly into its belt, ring and amulet before surveying the rest of the group. It looks each in the eye before saying, "We are a pack now. I watch your back, you watch mine. If not, we all die here. Work together we live."
Sorry, posted in the wrong thread. Here now!

I'm not really planning on having a backstory. The scientists didn't bother implanting him with any memories besides how to talk. He'll be born into the test facility with nothing to go on but instinct. Since he doesn't have hands (or their equivalent) I'll be reliant on more humanoid creatures to do things like open doors. With my ring of sustenance though, I should be good to go 22 hours a day. Based on past experience with this kind of game, I'm guessing we'll be able to address threats up to around CR 12-13 then we'll start going through resources really fast. With no healer we might get one CR 13 encounter done before we're screwed. With no oure casters or rogues traps and threats that need magical solutions might be the biggest issue.
Yeah, this should be fun. Might get kinda crazy :) As for PBP rules, this is how I do it: Roll initiative for everyone, highest player and highest monster of each type determine when that block acts (so if there are three orcs, roll for them three times and take the highest). Then actions occur in posting order. So if there are orcs, players and troll and they get 17,20,6 it would go all players in posting order and then orcs, then trolls. Putting the basic stats of the monster in your profile allows us to resolve our own actions against it (it's ACs, CMD, Saves, immunities, DR, resistances). The knowledge of course remains out of character without an appropriate knowledge check. Companions act on their player's initiative. Things tend to run pretty smoothly that way.
That means I have 4500 more to spend as well....hmm. Decisions, decisions. Since this is going to be an almost purely combat game it sounds like, have you considered any special PBP oriented procedures to speed things up? Ie. rolling initiative for everyone, and running it in blocks, posting up partial monster stats so people can resolve their own actions etc? I find that kind of thing can really smooth things out in PBP and potentially make the difference between a game that lasts and one that doesn't. It's also less work for you to DM.
I'm also planning on not having any way to manipulate small objects besides mage hand. Which doesn't do all that much. Edit:Changed from fey to an Aberration, and switched out a couple of the SLAs. Build is much less stealthy now. It also doesn't have redundant DR anymore. Can you look over the Mk II build and make sure everything is kosher please DM?
B.I.T.E - Each time you take Natural Armor the cost increases by 1, so I'm pretty sure you're calculating wrong. So 4 NA should cost 1+2+3+4 points or 10 RP. Dr. Upton - It makes it stronger because they are designing it to be a synthesist and they know it won't need arms, they can use the extra juice elsewhere. Karnicore is a very powerful predator, but he can be stopped by a simple door. No arms, means no hands. :P Everyone - These scenarios you guys are putting forward aren't very realistic for the SLA abuse stuff. So you can cure out of combat at will, so can a wand which every 5th level group would have. Sure it'll cost some gold, but that's not really the point of the experiment is it? I though we were trying to make the most badass creatures possible. Having it limited to 3rd level or lower spells and only 5 makes it not that bad. They still take a standard action to cast. Any abuse scenario beyond buffing your AC goes to shreds when put into combat rounds. So you can go invisible at will, you gonna give up every other turn to stay that way? So you have mage armor up all the time, who doesn't (wands, hour per level)? I guess it's just my two cents. But to me there is no such thing as "OP". The DM can always slap more HP on the monsters, or throw more monsters at us if it's not challenging.
Awesome about Ninja, I'll switch him over soon. You have to create a second campaign. Though I've found it useful to actually create three campaigns, one for shared interactions and the other two for the separate groups with links in the campaign info tab to the other threads. When running in a shared world though, be aware that differing posting rates and amount of in-game rest time can create some very paradoxical situations with the timeline. I actually had to put one group on hold for a month in half and lost most of the players because both groups were in the same place at different times.
You never answered my question about the Scout archetype and Ninja. Ninja still has all the class features that Scout replaces, so is it cool if I use it? If not I might change things up quite a bit and do a synthesist version so that I can get rake, and pounce. My build is looking a little weak comepared to some of these others.
I considered going synthesist summoner. But I play them a lot, and I wanted to try something a little different. That is if I even get picked ~_~ Edit:The one thing that was really tempting me towards synthesist is pounce. It's almost impossible to get that before 10th level otherwise. Having hands is cool though. So is charging, doing sneak and going invisible on the same turn. Watch everything we fight have true seeing or something. |
