Artemis Deacon is a tall, lanky human dressed in greens and browns. Born in the forest of Whisperwood, to a family of woodcutters and woodsmen. While his father and a younger brother still live, his mother and younger sister were killed by goblins during an attack. Soon after Daviren Hosk and a group of Sandpoint citizens showed up trailing the group of goblins. Artemis' father was too distraught to follow, but his uncle, Uncle Jack, was more than willing to go avenge his sister's death. Artemis was a little too young to go but he did sneak off and follow the group. Uncle Jack saved Daviren's life when a hobgoblin appeared at Daviren's flank when he was engaging two goblins. Truth be told, an arrow from Artemis' bow also help to fell the hobgoblin, but no one but Artemis knows this due to the fog of war.
After the group returned to the Deacon house, Artemis was hanging around the group when some of the older boys dared him to steal a small trinket from one of the more wealthy merchants. After a few weeks, the guilt of what he had done pushed him to tell his father and then on a trip to Sandpoint, return the item and express his regret and promise to not do that again. The merchant was upset but forgave Artemis of his transgression.
Uncle Jack started training Artemis after the attack, teaching him to sneak through the forest, track his prey and how to shoot even better. Uncle Jack always pressed Artemis to be better, nothing seemed to be good enough. This has caused Artemis to have a bit of self-doubt. Jack meant well, he told Artemis' father that he was one of the better students he'd ever had, but he wanted him to reach his full potential. Jack even told the boy's father about the help Artemis provided during the goblin battle. It wasn't until after Jack died, to a pair of Giants that attacked a caravan Jack was escorting.
Artemis, his father Galen and his brother Thoros are on their way to Sandpoint to take part in the annual Swallowtail Festival and want to be there for the dedication of the new temple. They are also bringing a load of cured wood, which will help pay their expenses while in town.
