About Kana Kahuna
Background:
An orphan owned by the Chelish military, he was raised to be a slave soldier. His masters were not impressed with his martial abilities, but his blood lust was unparalleled. This caught the eyes of his superiors. His thirst for the kill got him the honor of accompanying the forces into battle and the pleasure of finishing off the enemy wounded as the forces pushed forward.
This life suited him well, until he found himself covered in blood, lost between opposing forces and looked up to a vision of Dalenydra in full glory. Golden wings above him and silver light all around him, he fell onto the soaked ground and felt the weight of all the deaths he had wrought. He left the field that day and began wandering - from temple to shrine - learning bits and pieces of what it is to be right in the world. For the next decade he lived his penance, serving mystics, holy men, and healers. Packing from battlefield to hospital ministering to the wounded, to the dying, and to the dead. And out the other side he has become a pillar of protection and healing. His penance continues - to wander with those who are in harm’s way for all his days, saving the injured and never allowing his bloodlust to rise again.
The last healer he assisted was a member of the Pathfinders, and so he found himself in Absolom when the blessings of Dalenydra manifest, and he stepped from penitent to priest. Immediately he saw in that organization a place to begin – people to work with, and maybe even of which to become a part. Members of the Silver Crusade approached him during his first days at the Grand Lodge, and their easy and fervent welcome engaged him as a member of their cause.
His first mission with the Pathfinders took him to Andoran (The Stolen Heir). There he saw what people do to have and keep power. But also he began to hear a story of freedom and freedom of thought – though individuals might be corrupt, the message rang true.
Back in Absolom, he found means to help out the Pathfinders again in the strange underworks of the city – rescuing a Minotaur prince from the Tangle (Delirium’s Tangle). He began to see that it is not be enough in the world to go along with the heroes to heal and protect them. Stepping up in battle and taking the brunt of the assault is another way to honor Dalenydra.
And then his faith was put to the test. Sent into the Chelish embassy to help support the missing Chelish ambassador brought back flashes of his youth (The Disappeared). And yet he overcame this and learned that there are enemies that are not human or person that can be fought – outsiders that come to this world only to harm and destroy are worthy foes. He began to understand that there may indeed be a role for violence in the service of the angels. And in irony and justice, he earned the respect and gratitude of the House of Thrune, his former owners.
Coming more into his own as a member of the Pathfinders, he travelled to Mendev in support of the crusades there (Scars of the Third Crusade). In the fear and evil he saw there he now knows that he must build his strength and continue the fight against evil. And this must mean preparing his body and limbs for battle against the evil that is beyond this world and beyond death.
