I've heard many complaints lately about monks being "underpowered" or "useless" in PFS. Let's take a look at what even a low level monk is capable of for tanking. (MoMS/Qinggong/Hungry Ghost) L1. Dex+Wis (reasonably AC 17-18) Picking up a wand of mage armor, which IMO is a requirement. (handed over to an arcane of course) pushes AC to 21-22. With the addition of Crane style feats, a 1st level monk can fight defensively with a blocking weapon and the aforementioned setup with
L2. Evasion. Awesome. Another feat for either Crane Wing or Dragon Style.
L3. Whatever other feat wasn't taken at 3. At this level I would recommend the purchase of Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier. With fate's favored that is an additional +2 AC (Luck) and the ability to negate a critical hit or sneak as an immediate. (nice) With this setup so far, we can be AC 31-32 against one attack and 27-28 against the rest. L4. Fantastic level. Qinggong Monk replaces slow fall for Barkskin. (+2 natural ac) Ki Pool as a swift action for another +4 ac. (dodge) That's AC 37-38 capstone. L5. Presuming we dumped int and cha to have high STR, DEX and WIS this level I'd take a level in Magus. Here me out, obviously with a int 7 we won't gain any spellcasting. However we can now use our own wands and with Spire Defender archetype we will pickup Dodge and Combat Expertise (previously barred due to low int). Not only giving access to improved trip and the like but also pushing AC to a capstone of 43-44 @ L5. Pickup 2nd Dragon style feat, improved trip, or w.e. If we need to put out some damage (using TWF) we can strike at +5/+5/+5 or +7/+7 with a swift action, dealing 1d8+7 each. Even fighting defensively at this point is just -1 hit with AC 30-32.(34-36 vs 1)
Wondering if enough people are interested in playing this tonight. Warhorn Signup
I'm sure everyone knows about this as it is the staple of a Bard. Your elegant movements cause you to seem to be more than you are. By gracefully weaving your body through subtle forms and postures you can convince others of your breeding, eloquence, and refinement. For the duration of the effect, you gain a +4 circumstance bonus on Bluff checks, and may attempt a Bluff check in place of an Intelligence check or Intelligence-based skill check. Can "seem to be more than you are" be used as a RAI argument to prevent the use of Pageant RAW? The GM intends to only give +4 to bluff to seem like I know what I'm talking about. If this is the case; What good would this masterpiece be as seeming to know for appraise, knowledge skills and spellcraft is utterly useless. I know James Jacobs cleared this up before, but is there any official rulings on this; or would this follow the RAW?
"Though it allows the wearer to speak, its facial expressions and voice betray little emotion, granting a +10 competence bonus on Bluff checks made to lie and a +5 competence bonus on Bluff checks made to feint, but also imposes a –5 penalty on Bluff checks made to pass a hidden message." "By gracefully weaving your body through subtle forms and postures you can convince others of your breeding, eloquence, and refinement. For the duration of the effect, you gain a +4 circumstance bonus on Bluff checks, and may attempt a Bluff check in place of an Intelligence check or Intelligence-based skill check." Would the mask grant a +10 bonus to the bluff check to then aid the int checks? Why or why not? |
