Appearance:
Jose is well built, yet flexible and graceful. 5'8" tall, he is clean cut, with a small mustache and goatee, and radiates confidence. He has many tattoos, all gang or prison related, including a spiderweb on his left elbow and a few teardrop tattoos on his cheek. He tends to wear turtle necks and long sleeve shirts, not wanting to advertise his past too obviously.
History:
Jose grew up grew up in the ghetto, poor and with not many options. As a kid he never understood, nor wanted to, the purpose of school. In elementary school he was one of the ones that always got picked on, so his mother enrolled him in kung-fu when he was 8, and he attended until he was 13, when he got mixed up in the gang life as a member of the Nortenos. His martial arts training, in combination with the constant fighting involved in the gang life made him into a formidable hand to hand opponent, but a wild one with little discipline.
Then, just a few weeks after his 18th birthday, Jose was arrested in a drug bust, and he was sent to San Quentin on charges of drug sales and assaulting an officer. While in San Quentin he met an old black man that only went by "Sifu." Sifu was about 65, and was in prison for killing a man in a bar fight. Though Sifu was only defending himself, he accepted his punishment as par for the course, never really showing depression or anger at his situation, just inner calm. Drawn to Sifu, Jose learned the higher art of Shaolin Kung-Fu, and came to understand the calm that Sifu had. He dedicated himself to bettering his person and finding a way out of the ghetto as soon as he was released. After 14 years, Jose was paroled just a few months ago. He has joined the ranks of cage fighters, hoping to become a UFC champion, as this is his way out.
He may not recognize what most people call "legitimate" authority (he's seen too much abuse of power in the ghetto, and ignorance of race and poverty in the government overall), but he believes in bettering himself and living the best life that he can, dedicating himself to hours of working out and meditation every day.
