slowest combat evah!

Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Stealth(shield wielded): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Init:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

I always say you need a map, but in this case, it may depend on a) if they actually come out to investigate and b) then how many....if it's just two NPC then I reckon we could possibly avoid a map ... i.e. "you all behind trees and wait for them to arrive at the dam ; roll hide, then hopefully roll initiative!". 5 on 2 should be a quick win, even though one of the five is me (and i'm rubbish in combat!)

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

do we have any magical means of creating a pit for the overflow? either directly or via a conjured creature than can dig quickly?

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

One thing we need to consider is "what if they all come out to check the dam". It is unlikely I know ; but is there anyway we can get a lookout position of our own and maybe try and reverse the positions ; by circling around them and taking over the fort while they come to investigate the dam.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

welcome back Dan. If we want to move this on, i think that getting him to lead us will be best. Lets try and get this sequence of events done before it snows

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

The issue with the Deer is that we might get too many of them, all hungry for a venison burger. The blocked stream is likely to have them thinking a tree or something has dammed the stream and they might just send out a couple of chaps. We are, I beleive, looking for a way of taking them out using "Salami tactics".

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

could we somehow pollute the water upstream(dead carcass?)/dam the flow and force a small group out to investigate the problem and pick them off out of sight of the watchtowers?

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Valin,
I have some more questions for you please. I will remove his gag to allow him to answer!

Firstly - where do the bandits source their water from please?
Secondly - how often do they send out "hunting" groups like the one where our paths crossed, and are they usually 2-man?
Thirdly - Have hunting parties gone "missing" before, if so - what was the reaction of Kressle ?
Fourthly - Apart from the raid on Oleg's Stockade - were there any futher planned raids?

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

the other option is to ask Valin to fight on our side.... it's a risk I know. It could tip the odds to 6/8 or if he turnscoat again 5/9 ... i'm not for/against this - I just mention it as an option.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

are there any Guerilla Tactics we can employ. Our original assertion that hitting them before they came back to Oleg's seems a bit overly cautious. We could ask Valin how many more horses they have? As they are now down to their last 8 - are they likely to send another bunch out? Is there any way we could pick them off individually? where do they get their water from, do they have an internal well? Other than that we're down to trying to set fires under each of the look-out posts and igniting them simultaneously ; that at least reduces the numbers to 6 (assuming the lookouts in the towers are more concerned about surviving the flames than actively partaking in the fight!

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Good luck with move Steve, pm me ur new address when you get settled please.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Well stated Gudrun.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

humanoids do not get eaten. How is allowing wild beast to consume the fallen "showing a better way" Sanglamore - control your beast, please. Deer, boar etc. I have no qualms over. We humanoids consume these - why shouldn't Rhaegal.
Anyway, Kreg is not dead. I beleive Gudruns suggestion to stabilise him and leave him here is sound. He can be left a Dagger for proection vs wild beasts. He will be in no physical state to pursue us and cause rearward hinderance. We take Valin with us a previously stated. I agree that with ~Valins help we maybe abvle to catch some look-outs unaware and maybe edge the odds in out favour.
Rhody - can you take a look at Kreg and make sure he is stable enough to fend of wild beasts - but not so healthy as to be minded to follow us.

By consuming the hearts of the fallen, the strength of their body will move on within the material world, within me. The body will then no longer obstruct the soul, allowing it to move on into the spiritual world. An easier transition."

I have no reason to doubt you that YOU believe it to be true Rhaegal, but to my mere mortal ears it sounds likes mere sophistry.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

well i'll blow another AL (4/8)

KN : Geography 1d20 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 6 = 26

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

well - how the mighty have fallen!

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

ok so I can throw another use of AL (3/8) to get three rounds and hopefully 3 knowledge checks

so....

Kn - Local :1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 3 = 6
Kn - Nobility :1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 3 = 7
Kn - History : 1d20 + 1 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 6 = 8

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

I am then inclined to bind his wrists and tie him to the pack horse and bring him with us until this business is concluded. Once complete we can return with him and try and find him a better way. We can gag him when we close to the encampment to stop him shouting out any warnings. He can consider himself on probation. Any actions out of line and he gets punished as a bandit, immediately. this is his chance, if he shows true contrition and acts to help us and in no way hinder us, I think he deserves a chance, but one chance only and that chance doesn't have much wiggle room.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

You seem like a good kid, it looks like to me you've been led astray by some villainous types here. Would you like to leave them and follow a more honest life? Are you too scared of them to do so?

Turning to the others,
what do you think chaps, chapesses?
Let Kreg bleed out under accusation of attacking us and Banditry and send this young scallywag back down the path, sans bow, towards Olegs stockade to look for honest work?

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

for me, actually quite muted. Too stressed getting ready for holiday (this missive posted from a hotel in "la Belle France"). Place we are staying promises WiFi, but if you hear nothing from me for 2 weeks - those promises turned out to be paper thin lies

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

I win

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

If we wanted you dead, do you think we'd have offered you the opportunity to surrender. What we want is to give you the opportunity to help us. We are here with a Charter to clear these lands of bandits. It is a Royal Charter. It grants us authority. You have here the chance to choose the right side, and aid us - I'm SURE you are not Bandits yourselves - just Hunters. The minor discretions of attacking us can be overlooked if you provide us with the location of the Camp, the strength of their forces and any backdoors into their encampment.

Jon - He put his bow down and walked out after Jorquimo made his statement (which I'm seeing as more Diplomacy than Bluff, considering how comprehensively you outmatched them).

Technically - I couldn't use diplomacy again as I screwed up the first attempt and skill has "no retry inside 24hours" ; hence why I switched to Bluff ; hope that doesn't break the verisimilitude of the narrative?

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Dan - I'm just playing up ; I was just dead impressed with the group in that last encounter...it all just seemed to happened before I got a go.. which is frankly great...low Danger = perfect to me.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

I'll just go and sit over here and pretend i'm useful in this group

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

So when it get to my go.

AL still running (it's persistent dontchaknow)

Ok, you've loosed your arrows, given your position away and it was pretty ineffective. We are significantly more powerful than you, so this is you last chance, drop your bows put you hands above your heads and walk out here slowly, or this turns out very VERY badly for you.

Bluff : 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 1 = 22

SA : A.L.
Come out chaps and lets talk this over. Lets not make this violent when there is no need.

Diplomacy : 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 1 = 12

a*@e

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Initiative : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

given i'm starting the fight - that somehow feels wrong

also - does spark set fire to the forest by accident, unlikely I know, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't responsible for a major forest fire so early in the games proceedings, I am trying to play the good guy here!

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Ok ; so as it looks like Gudrun is oblivious the upcoming ambush ; time to start the fight.
J will cast Spark and throw it in the direction of the Voices and speak loudly enough to project to Gudrun Perform [Oratory] 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 Ambush

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

it's likely to be an ambush, Dan, how faraway from Gudrun do i think i heard the voices?, do i have time to crack of a spell before the ambush kicks off?

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Perception : 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Stealth : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Assuming it maybe dangerous from here on in so sword & shield readied

Edit : pah, I see your cymbals, and raise you an entire percussion section

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

ooh yes - good point - I'd like to keep my eyes open too please.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

what are our charge distances, that's how far ahead I think you should be

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Gudrun, are you better on your own? I would say i'm averagely stealthy. My adopted parents say it must have been in my genes 'cos they clod-hopped about like nobodys business, but it is all natural, i've had no training or practice, so if you think i'd be better at the back here with the others, I am happy to defer to your wisdom in these matters.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Ok Dan, how many days trail rations shoudl we knock off our charcter sheets?
Also I have assumed that if we "stealth" and my shield is just carried it doesn't incur the ACP penalty "it's just weight" ; it only occurs the ACP when it's strapped to my LH. Hence the different Stealth values on J's sheet. I also assume that if stealth is needed - YOU (as the GM) will roll and tell us how noisily Rhodeus is moving....

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Kn : History 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Well, the tracks are likely Kobolds, but I think we should ignore them on the outbound journey and keep focused on dealing with the Bandits. We can investigate these tracks on our return. This is my opinion, not a fait accompli I speak foreign!, what do others think?

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Kn - Nature : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Kn - Local : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Survival : 1d20 ⇒ 13

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

can I also add that I have 3 chances EVERY NIGHT to be murdered in my sleep before I get up and have to take watch, so I am in theory, taking the greatest risk here!

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

I vote with Gudrun, let's crack on with this. We've not been attacked overnight in all the travels so far, the likelihood of it happening tonight just as we prepare for an assault are slim and we are being overly cautious. If we take some time NOW to find a secluded unobvious place and keep light pollution down to the barest minimum, an 8 hour watch cycle will suffice.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

happy to take first watch, not been much other use so far today

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

Unless I get 8 hours, I am more cranky than usual!
btw - not commented this weekend for 3 reasons. 1 been playing golf (sat) ; 2. been to Cambridge county show (sun) 3. I cannot help, I am best standing at the back keeping out the way of the tracks and leading the pack mule.

Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1

it's not so much the actual carrying it...Jess could do that, but the using, in combat, with my clothes, the leather armour, the longsword and my shield , the bow and arrows would just be too weighty for me...

explorer outfit ; 8 ; leather armour 15 ; longsword 4 ; Light wooden shield 5

CC is 33 i think for STR 10 ; so longbow(3) and arrows (3) would push me into medium load with no way of reducing my load.....
