I always say you need a map, but in this case, it may depend on a) if they actually come out to investigate and b) then how many....if it's just two NPC then I reckon we could possibly avoid a map ... i.e. "you all behind trees and wait for them to arrive at the dam ; roll hide, then hopefully roll initiative!". 5 on 2 should be a quick win, even though one of the five is me (and i'm rubbish in combat!)

One thing we need to consider is "what if they all come out to check the dam". It is unlikely I know ; but is there anyway we can get a lookout position of our own and maybe try and reverse the positions ; by circling around them and taking over the fort while they come to investigate the dam.

The issue with the Deer is that we might get too many of them, all hungry for a venison burger. The blocked stream is likely to have them thinking a tree or something has dammed the stream and they might just send out a couple of chaps. We are, I beleive, looking for a way of taking them out using "Salami tactics".

Valin,
Firstly - where do the bandits source their water from please?
Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1
are there any Guerilla Tactics we can employ. Our original assertion that hitting them before they came back to Oleg's seems a bit overly cautious. We could ask Valin how many more horses they have? As they are now down to their last 8 - are they likely to send another bunch out? Is there any way we could pick them off individually? where do they get their water from, do they have an internal well? Other than that we're down to trying to set fires under each of the look-out posts and igniting them simultaneously ; that at least reduces the numbers to 6 (assuming the lookouts in the towers are more concerned about surviving the flames than actively partaking in the fight!

humanoids do not get eaten. How is allowing wild beast to consume the fallen "showing a better way" Sanglamore - control your beast, please. Deer, boar etc. I have no qualms over. We humanoids consume these - why shouldn't Rhaegal.

Rhaegal wrote: Rhaegal responds to Gudrun "The soul is trapped within, and upon death it seeks release. By consuming the hearts of the fallen, the strength of their body will move on within the material world, within me. The body will then no longer obstruct the soul, allowing it to move on into the spiritual world. An easier transition." I have no reason to doubt you that YOU believe it to be true Rhaegal, but to my mere mortal ears it sounds likes mere sophistry.

I am then inclined to bind his wrists and tie him to the pack horse and bring him with us until this business is concluded. Once complete we can return with him and try and find him a better way. We can gag him when we close to the encampment to stop him shouting out any warnings. He can consider himself on probation. Any actions out of line and he gets punished as a bandit, immediately. this is his chance, if he shows true contrition and acts to help us and in no way hinder us, I think he deserves a chance, but one chance only and that chance doesn't have much wiggle room.

You seem like a good kid, it looks like to me you've been led astray by some villainous types here. Would you like to leave them and follow a more honest life? Are you too scared of them to do so? Turning to the others,

If we wanted you dead, do you think we'd have offered you the opportunity to surrender. What we want is to give you the opportunity to help us. We are here with a Charter to clear these lands of bandits. It is a Royal Charter. It grants us authority. You have here the chance to choose the right side, and aid us - I'm SURE you are not Bandits yourselves - just Hunters. The minor discretions of attacking us can be overlooked if you provide us with the location of the Camp, the strength of their forces and any backdoors into their encampment. A.L. (2/8)

GM Rusty wrote: Jon - He put his bow down and walked out after Jorquimo made his statement (which I'm seeing as more Diplomacy than Bluff, considering how comprehensively you outmatched them). Technically - I couldn't use diplomacy again as I screwed up the first attempt and skill has "no retry inside 24hours" ; hence why I switched to Bluff ; hope that doesn't break the verisimilitude of the narrative?

So when it get to my go. AL still running (it's persistent dontchaknow) Ok, you've loosed your arrows, given your position away and it was pretty ineffective. We are significantly more powerful than you, so this is you last chance, drop your bows put you hands above your heads and walk out here slowly, or this turns out very VERY badly for you. Bluff : 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 1 = 22

Initiative : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 given i'm starting the fight - that somehow feels wrong also - does spark set fire to the forest by accident, unlikely I know, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't responsible for a major forest fire so early in the games proceedings, I am trying to play the good guy here!

Gudrun, are you better on your own? I would say i'm averagely stealthy. My adopted parents say it must have been in my genes 'cos they clod-hopped about like nobodys business, but it is all natural, i've had no training or practice, so if you think i'd be better at the back here with the others, I am happy to defer to your wisdom in these matters.

Ok Dan, how many days trail rations shoudl we knock off our charcter sheets?
Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1
Well, the tracks are likely Kobolds, but I think we should ignore them on the outbound journey and keep focused on dealing with the Bandits. We can investigate these tracks on our return. This is my opinion, not a fait accompli I speak foreign!, what do others think?
Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1
I vote with Gudrun, let's crack on with this. We've not been attacked overnight in all the travels so far, the likelihood of it happening tonight just as we prepare for an assault are slim and we are being overly cautious. If we take some time NOW to find a secluded unobvious place and keep light pollution down to the barest minimum, an 8 hour watch cycle will suffice.
Male Dhampir Bard (Archaeologist) / 1
Unless I get 8 hours, I am more cranky than usual!

it's not so much the actual carrying it...Jess could do that, but the using, in combat, with my clothes, the leather armour, the longsword and my shield , the bow and arrows would just be too weighty for me... explorer outfit ; 8 ; leather armour 15 ; longsword 4 ; Light wooden shield 5 CC is 33 i think for STR 10 ; so longbow(3) and arrows (3) would push me into medium load with no way of reducing my load.....
