Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Thanks, everyone! It was great while it lasted. Grufflehead, thanks for the introduction to the PBP world! And, for the record, I wasn't apathetic in my post, I was just waiting to see the results of my poor roll before moving on...And, or course, baiting Petus again...; )

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Ah, puzzles. Just the thing to keep one occupied between drinks, eh Petus?

INT Check: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Bottoms up! Petus, you're looking a little peaked...

FORT Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

It's OK. We'll try to save post 400 for you... ; )

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

My friends, the event I've been waiting for is set to begin! I am off to area 3 for the drinking contest! You are more than welcome to join me, if you feel up to it.

Johan heads over to area 3, keeping his eye out for the young lady he spied earlier (or any young lady, for that matter).

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

You speak true, my friend. It'll be fun to see how it turns out.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan applauds the results of the first match.

Truly, this is a spectacle! I can't wait to see Leconair in action! Aelden, welcome to the festivities!

Johan settles in for an enjoyable afternoon's activities.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan listens to the rules, looks at the game field, and smiles.

Good luck, Leconair!

Johan purchases some food and a beverage from a local vendor, then settles in to watch the competition.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan asks Fester if he would be interested in joining him to watch his friend Leconair compete, then heads on over to see what's what.

DM grufflehead wrote:

The tension is mounting in the final round. Word has spread about how close the contest might be, and there is a decent sized crowd now gathered. The 3 finalists line up and begin to throw.

With the first ball, both Camlon and Fester miss, while Johan clips his target and it wobbles, before hitting the ground. In the next round, Johan and Fester both hit, while Camlon misses again. In the 3rd round, Camlon scores a solid hit, while Johan misses; Fester's shot just catches the target and after an agonising wait the ball topples over the edge onto the ground. In round 4 Camlon is again wide, while Fester hits and Johan misses by a hair's breadth. A gasp from the crowd! Going into the final round it's Camlon on 1, Johan on 2 and Fester with 3.

Camlon's last shot is also unsuccessful and he leaves, wishing the other 2 good fortune as he goes. Fester steps up, his face a picture of concentration; a bead of perspiration runs down his cheek. He throws, and the ball squirms out of his sweaty hand to land well short of the target. Johan has a chance... With a measured gaze, he pitches the ball. Smack - a direct hit! The crowd applaud enthusiastically as he draws level with the home favourite!

The judge steps forward and announces that the winner will be decided by a sudden death throw off: both contestants throw again and if one misses and the other hits, the contest is over. The marshalls begin to move the target back again when Fester steps forward and says 'fellows and friends, I think we have seen a fair contest today. Much as I would like to add to my list of titles, I propose that we share the prize. What say you, sir?' he asks Johan.

Aye, friend Fester! A fair contest indeed. A shared victory it is! Let us celebrate our prize together!

Johan bows to Fester, then the judges, and waves to the crowd.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Good luck to all!

Johan begins his round:

1d20 ⇒ 13
1d20 ⇒ 17
1d20 ⇒ 9
1d20 ⇒ 12
1d20 ⇒ 20

Johan's round is successful! Hitting 3 out of 5 times.

Giving a yell of excitement, Johan shakes Fester's hand and pats Camlon on the back.

Well done, my friends! A fine competition indeed! Shall we celebrate with some ale?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

My friends, I am sorry you did not advance. I will do my best to represent us well. Camlon, good luck this round!

1d20 ⇒ 15
1d20 ⇒ 1
1d20 ⇒ 4
1d20 ⇒ 12
1d20 ⇒ 8

Johan begins tossing his spheres at the target. His first attempt hits squarely in the center of the target. Unfortunately, the next 2 attempts sail wide - one almost hitting another competitor.

Johan apologizes for his aim, then makes another toss, hitting the target.

His final toss barely misses, leaving Johan with 2 hits out of 5.

Alas, it looks like I will be elminated this round. Maybe I can track down that young lady I say earlier...

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan retrieves his ball, then looks up to thank Petus for his help.

Petus?! Petus?! That's just like him. He does a good deed then disappears before taking credit. He truly is a modest, kind-hearted fellow!

Johan turns to his companion:

Perk up, Aelden! I'm sure you'll be fine! Hopefully, we'll both make the next round together! I wonder how Leconair is doing?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Well done, Aelden! Hopefully, I'll be able to advance as well! If not, I hear some ale calling my name...

1d20 ⇒ 10
1d20 ⇒ 3
1d20 ⇒ 13
1d20 ⇒ 16
1d20 ⇒ 17

All of Johan's tosses find their mark, with the exception of one, where he was distracted by a particularly nice looking young lady who was walking by. As he began his throw, Johan's head jerked sideways, causing his aim to miss the target entirely, striking Johan's friend Petus in the small of his back as he waited in line for a meat pie.

My, my, my. Did you see that vision of beauty? And I still managed four hits! I am indeed on a roll. Looks like the ale can wait...Friend Petus, can you toss me that ball? It seems to have got away from me.

Johan makes a mental note to look for the young lady after the competition is over.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan would like to try his hands at some of the games of skill - perhaps the drinking contest and the marksmanship (not necessarily in that order). In addition, he is looking for his "friends" Petus and co.

Perception to locate Petus: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Aelden, we do whatever work we can find. Typically, in the security/escort/bodyguard field, but I have been known to pick up other odd jobs as my funds dwindle. We're hoping to find some employment during the festival.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Mithral is indeed pricey. Perhaps we can find some employment and see if we could purchase some for you to work with? By the way, I am called Johan, friend Aelden. A pleasure to make your acquaintance.

I will take my hit points now.

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

I like both of your ideas, Grufflehead.

Here are my 10d20 rolls:

10d20 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 14, 16, 13, 4, 8, 8, 13) = 88
10d20 ⇒ (19, 10, 12, 19, 12, 7, 2, 15, 1, 8) = 105
10d20 ⇒ (10, 10, 18, 9, 11, 14, 10, 12, 13, 11) = 118
10d20 ⇒ (16, 17, 15, 20, 19, 7, 7, 12, 2, 18) = 133
10d20 ⇒ (16, 1, 16, 12, 16, 7, 4, 14, 14, 9) = 109
10d20 ⇒ (9, 18, 11, 8, 3, 9, 10, 9, 18, 7) = 102
10d20 ⇒ (2, 18, 11, 8, 17, 15, 16, 11, 6, 15) = 119
10d20 ⇒ (20, 2, 19, 13, 1, 13, 1, 11, 15, 16) = 111
10d20 ⇒ (6, 17, 14, 16, 18, 16, 3, 18, 2, 11) = 121
10d20 ⇒ (8, 7, 18, 12, 6, 12, 16, 4, 9, 9) = 101

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Well met, my friend! This is indeed a banner day...We met our first Giant, saw some Gnolls strolling down the way without raping and pillaging, and now we are set for a grand feast! Tell me, where do you hail from?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan suggests to Rath and Leconair:

My friends, look at the size of that canopy! Surely there is someone of importance within. Perhaps we should introduce ourselves - and take a peek inside?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Many thanks, my friend! We have heard great things about your town and this festival, and look forward to experiencing it for ourselves. I bet even my sullen companion Rath will crack a smile before too long...

Johan picks a suitable site and begins pitching his tent.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Cure Light Wounds on Jellardo, then an attempt to locate the 4th Lizard.

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

Johan rushes to check on Jellardo's condition and shouts to Rath:

Rath! Incoming!

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Sounds like a splendid festival!

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Yes, my friend. Please regale us with tales of what to expect at the Gnome festival!

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

I suggest that Rath take point, with Leconair and myself accompanying you. Leconair can walk with you, keeping an eye out for anything on either side, and I will bring up the rear, keeping an eye out for anything that may be following us. Rath, Leconair, what are your thoughts?

Sorry I haven't been on until now. My one year old daughter has been sick, and I haven't been able to get away until today.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

My good man, I am talking to you. Are you well?

Johan approaches the coach, takes a quick peek inside, then looks directly at the coachman.

Are you in need of assistance?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan approaches the coach.

Greetings, friend! I was wondering if you could help us. We're looking for that wonderful performer who just exited from yon inn. We wish to congratulate her on a fine performance. Perchance, have you seen her?

Thanks, Grufflehead. I made my Perception check to see if I could locate the bard, as my guess is she is hiding somewhere...

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

My apologies. We were just hoping to compliment the young lady on her uncanny ability to sing. We will meet her out back, then.

To Leconair:

Perhaps we can catch her if we use the front door and head around back...

Johan hastens through the front door and heads towards the back of the inn, keeping an eye out for the bard and the odd coach.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Yes, let's go thank our entertainer personally.

Johan follows the bard through the back door and looks to see where she has gotten to.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan applauds at the finale of the tale.

Will Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 (Add another 2 if it's a fear effect).

That was inspiring, eh Leconair? What say you, Friend Petus?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

I'm glad to hear that we have all found work. Hopefully, our fortunes will continue to be favorable. Barkeep, a round for my friends here. Make Petus's a double. Let's see if we can put a smile on his face.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan raises his glass to Asko, and heads over to them.

Greeting, friends! Great party, no? How goes the job search? Based on your earlier appearance on the road, I assume that you have indeed found a paying gig?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan walks the camping area to pinpoint the location of Asko's party's campsite. Once that is ascertained, he heads back to the inn to attend the festivities, buying a round for Leconair and Rath.

While at the party, Johan keeps an eye out for Asko and company.

To Leconair and Rath:

Looks like our friends from earlier have been busy. It may bear looking into. Now, I wonder where our new employer is at?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan pours a glassful from the jug, and drinks it down.

Returning to the Lucky Charm, Johan asks Leopold:

So, that young couple are married now. What does "walking the moss" signify? Is it a common occurance for wedding ceremonies?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan fills his waterskin with some of the liquid for later inspection.

He then returns to the inn and asks Leopold:

So, what is so exciting about the water from the moss that has the whole town so excited? Being new in town, my friends and I are unfamiliar with this activity.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan turns to the commoner.

My friend meant no offense. He is simply curious about the order, as are we all. My thanks for your information. Perhaps we can meet after this court session for a drink?

Last thing we need to do is get another town angry at us. LOL.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Johan moves in for a closer look of the proceedings, and keeps an eye out for Jellardo's whereabouts to see if he is thinking of bringing up breach of contract charges against his former escorts.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Hmmm...It would appear some nobility is in town. Perhaps we should head to the square to check out the commotion.

Johan finishes his drink, then heads out toward the square.

After finding a good spot, Johan asks the nearest villager:

So, what's all the fuss about?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

It looks OK to me.

Johan signs the contract (providing that the "appointed time" is clearly spelled out as the beginning of the gnome festival. If it is not spelled out, Johan asks that it be defined clearly in the contract prior to signing it.

I think we're in business! Come, my friends. let us celebrate with some libation!

Johan gestures to Rath, and drapes his arms over Jellardo's and Leconair's shoulders and guides them to the bar for a celebratory drink.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

That sounds fair. Leconair, Rath, what do you think?

No worries. After rolling a natural 1 on my introduction, I thought a little diplomacy was warranted...

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Why, yes, we may be interested at that. May I inquire as to the nature of your cargo, and of course, our compensation for assisting you?

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Of course! My name is Johan, by the way. I couldn't help overhearing what you said earlier about your hired hands leaving you stranded. My companions and I are looking for employment, perhaps we could aid one another?

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan heads over to the fellow.

Pardon me, sir, but would you like a hand with those?

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

BWHAHAHAHAHA!! Looks like my cursed dice luck is back...

I'm playing one of these in a pbp right now. Click on my name and view my profile to see how I decided to go.

FYI, the skill ranks are one level off based on RAW due to my pbp DM's advancement rules. Everything else should match up nicely.

Let me know your thoughts...

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan returns to the table.

Friends, I may have an employment opportunity for us. That portly gent who just went outside was talking about his escort walking out on him. Perhaps we can persuade him to allow us to escort him to his destination? He's right outside. If we hurry, we may be able to catch him.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

I'm guessing we should seek shelter until the storm passes. Maybe yon inn would be a good place to plan our next steps?

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan will pay for both meals, tipping 1 sp each time.

Johan walks up to one of the villagers looking up to the sky.

Greetings, friend. I can't help but notice how you keep looking to the sky. Pray tell, what do you seek there?

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

My apologies, good sir! Where are my manners! I am Johan.

Johan bows to all three of his new "friends".

Friend Petus, is something wrong? You seem to be staring pretty hard at me. Do I have a stain on my tunic?

Johan inspects his clothing for any signs of a stain.

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Johan samples the food, especially enjoying the onions.

Well, friend, perhaps we shall be working together? Why should we compete for employment? Or, perhaps we can help you locate whatever it is your friend Petus is looking for? Six heads are better than 3, I always say.

Johan looks inquiringly at Petus for further details.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

In the meantime, let us be merry! I heartily recommend the onions. Leopold, another round for our new friends!

Male Human Cleric 2/Rogue 2

Unpleasantness? I'm not sure I follow you. Can you elaborate?

Johann gestures for his companions to come over.

Looks like we missed some excitement in Chendir. Our new friends were about to elaborate on what happened after we left.
