Yeah. That ability is called divine source. I have never seen the stats of a pathfinder demigod before so I was curious about what they have. I so far think divine source and longevity are on the list but I don't know about anything else like damage reduction or darkvision and stuff like that.

Actually I need a mythic path build is all. I don't need feats weapons or anything else. Just the mythic path abilities anyone might think would create a functional demigod. I reread my first post and it sounded like I was asking for a full write up. Lol!

I just need the mythic path abilities is all. Should have been clearer. :)

I'm starting a solo mythic character soon and thought it would be cool to play a demigod for the first time. As a solo I was thinking about a fighter or a cleric. I see alot of potential for either one as a demigod.

With the cleric, mythic guided hand and mythic warrior priest would make a good battle deity and combined with holy vindicator as a prestige class seems very divine. Obviously this would use the hierophant mythic path but I am confused about that paths divine surge abilities. Are those quick actions, standard, or move?

As a fighter I like the feats. I can do so much and use all points from advancement on strength and use feats and armor for defense and attack. Fighter was a pretty easy build after I decided on a weapon and shield style.

Aside from my question about the hierophant divine calls, I was wondering what path abilities do you think fit a demigod? Some gods like Thor would be a warrior type with the artifact mythic path ability at maximum and some gods would be more power based using magic directly. I am certain divine source should be apart of my build but to what extent? I saw where it says demigods can grant 4 domains but is that a maximum or a constant number? Also I am definately taking longevity. Some gods need to eat and drink and others don't. So any suggestions about a mythic path build that would make my new character a demigod in full by mythic rank 10? I need a solo build that also leaves no doubt as to the fact he is a god at it's apex. Well, demigod anyway. Any thoughts?

I see your players point but unfortunately for him, I actually see your side as the right way. In my years many players adopt this "I am untouchable" mentality many times forgetting that the campaign has laws and nations that support those laws. Even in an area with the types if a seedier nature have laws or atleast a certain etiquette which must he maintained. If a player wants to act invincible then teaching him that your are not Monte Haul is not a crime in my book.

Um hasn't anyone noticed this is the exact same post as two other topics? This Guy never reposts and then posts the exact same thing later with a different title under different categories.

Along time ago there were the Sovrune, a primitive and savage race of subhumans. Of all the creatures on earth, none were as unevovled as they. Thousands of years passed as the Sovrune slaughtered eachother in endless warfare and constant strife.

One among them Vathuum, had a glimmer of intelligence and sought change. He was not the greatest warrior but he knew he must leave his people and travel to the Mountain of Shaoth (Gloom?). He had dreamt of a light within that shadowy mountain, that mountain which all Sovrune had feared since birth

Why he felt the need to seek this light or even if there was a light has been long questioned and all that is known is that after his return, he was changed. He was something else, something more. Was it an artifact or ambrosia? None could say. Vathuum took a wife among the Sovrune and time passed.

Children were born to Vathuum and they were as he. Yet, he never grew old and it is said he brought the storm that grew their crops. If this is true, none can say for he had gone shortly after his one son and daughter came to maturity and wed.

His sudden disappearance confused the rest of the primitive Sovrune but given their limited intellect, quickly went back to life as usual.. or so they thought. Everytime a child was born to the line of Vathuum, they were as he. Smart, ageless, and empowered.

Soon all Sovrune were as he was and all showed a great talent for power. As they travelled the world, the men and beasts of the land marvelled at there perfection and some even worshipped them as gods. It is how the word sovereign came to this world for none could oppose their power in those days. Those, the ancient Sovrune.

Sovrune Racial Traits:
*+2 to any two ability scores of their choice. - 2 to any one ability score of their choice.
*Medium sized
*Normal speed
*Free feat: Skill focus
*Immortality: Sovrune do not age mentally or physically after the age of 25.
*Languages: Sovrune begin speaking common. Sovrune with high intelligence may also choose between auran, aquan, ignan, terran, draconic, celestial, abyssal, and infernal.

Physical description: A Sovrune appears as many humans do with the exception that they appear to be perfect. The lines in their face more symmetrical, etc. This physical perfection has no bearing on ability scores but abilities over 18 are reflected in their appearance such as a high intelligence resulting in glowing eyes or a 18 strength resulting in "heroic muscles". In addition all Sovrune have the mark of sovereignty upon their brow, a symbol of their power. This symbol is unique to each Sovrune.

Society: Sovrune society is a cross between human and elf in that they are patient and craft works of art unequalled and yet have the passion of humans so sometimes upheaval occurs to shake the status of their foundation. Alas, several Sovrune communities exist in the multiverse.

Relations: The Sovrune are on good terms with elves who know of their existance and some celestials ,demons, devils, and their ilk are cautious as any Sovrune can be aligned to any moral and ethical viewpoint. Elementals however are on good terms usually as the Sovrune respect the raw power of the elements over many other ideals.

Alignment and religion: Sovrune follow any alignment and religion they choose.

Names: Many if not all Sovrune names sound elemental in nature such as Vathuum, Faasharoos, and Kraokot for males. Voorah, Saeyetha, and Sweesha for females.

( This is just something I wanted to do for fun. I wanted to create a playable race similar to humans but whom in ancient days might have been worshipped as near divine. They are not outsiders nor are they native outsiders. They are in fact, humanoids. Ageless and talented but humanoids nonetheless. I didn't want to go crazy with a bunch of powers either. Those can be attained by adding classes. They are not limited to elemental abilities but they do prefer them over all so for example, you want to make a sorcerer, a common choice would be elemental bloodline. They choose elemental abilities because the true gods might get jealous if they claim sovereignty of non elemental forces but maybe not. Anyhow, this is my first want to use them in your campaign it would be an honor and if not, I hope it atleast amused you.

Really? That sucks. In that case he should take your advice and if that doesn't work, try mine or leave the group. If all else fails, online gaming is becoming popular. I have run a few on my im and they worked out fine even with me being American and they were from Germany and Denmark respectively.

Counter it? Lol! They are countering themselves by even coming out with a new edition this soon! I wouldn't worry if I was Paizo. They are original tsr and know edition changes so soon only alienate fans. I have heard many 4e supporters are upset and many of us are here after they switched last time.

Adnd 1e and 2e weren't that different and that lasted what 20 years? I admit I was ready when 3rd came out but not 4th. I swear its like wizards has game adhd or something. They ALWAYS say "this is the dnd we are going to have for a long time.we will be having open content(3rd ed) and something for everyone at every level (4th). ". Its always some excuse to,change every few years when they should just say, " Hey, remember when we said this would last? Well, we are so addicted to the rush in sales we get when we release a new edition and with our designers being so untalented and lazy, we are breaking our promise. Sorry but we own the dnd brand and we know you will forgive us if we reprint the backlog of products and say it was for Gary."

Pft! !! I'm over wizards and dnd. I no longer can afford to buy thousands of dollars worth of books. I'm married with 2 kids and they come first. Ill support pathfinder and that's it. With this poverty situation we need quality products not new systems. If they had put half the effort they put into making dnd next into fixing the system they are on now, maybe people would actually end up liking 4th and/ or sticking with it.

I'm glad Paizo did what they did and took the reigns, making it their own and quite fresh in the process. Regardless of what the future holds, wizards will never see a dime from me. I don't support them in anyway including buying and supporting Hasbro. They have proven their greed to me and I'm kicking them to the curb.

I used to prefer prep casters for versatility but after years of writing spell lists every game day, I have gotten carpel tunnel so its spontaneous all the way for me now.

I agree Orthos but I am assuming his GM doesn't care what's going on or he wouldn't have come to us for advice. I could be wrong though. *shrug*

No character is impossible to kill in any game I know about but if all you want to do is kill this Guy and you have 10 levels, I would say play a rogue assassin, take sneak focus, weapon focus, poison your blade, wait until his character goes to sleep and do the dirty. Put highest in dex to, str, then con and if he survives should be easy enough after that.

I thank you all for your help so far with this, my very first pathfinder character. I just rolled my ability scores using the heroic method since it is a solo game and this is what I got : 12, 18, 13, 12, 17, and 13. I didn't reroll a single die and this is the first set I rolled up. I am posting them because maybe with seeing the scores I have to work with, you all can make a informed decision knowing what I have to go on. Again, I really appreciate the help.

Don't worry about being a multiple ability dependent class. Good soloing classes tend to be hybrids, which tend to rely on multiple ability scores. Ranger, druid, bard, paladin are all strong choices. I'd recommend going human if for no other reason than the extra skill points, since you kind of want to cover all the bases yourself.

I agree. Human is a solid choice with the extra feat and skills :)

Kolokotroni wrote:

Bard is also a good choice, one that is capable in combat. They are an extermely versatile class and can fill out most of the basic needs of a party all by themself. Druid is another good choice, with the animal companion offering you some action economy help.

By the way, why on earth are you permitted the core and ultimate magic but not the apg? That seems sort of backwards to me. Its a shame because the alchemist, inquisitor and summoner all make good solo classes

We allow the advanced player's guide as well as any official pathfinder product. We only have access to the core rule book, ultimate magic, and the first bestiary as in those are the books we have. I do plan on getting the full ultimate series, the other bestiaries, mythic adventures, and mythic campaigns. I just started my pathfinder collection and can only afford a book once a month or so with all the bills, wife, and kids factored in but I will get them eventually.

Very good advice. I like both the ranger and the magus. I think you gave me the confirmation to avoid prestige classes for now so thank you for that. I think I am ready now to roll up the character to so once again, thank you for the good advice.

Thank you Don, Mad, and Ender. I'm a little sad that I don't have access to the summoner though as it really sounds cool. I saw the summoner stuff in ultimate magic and ff7 kept popping in mind. I love ff7 to lol.

I see alot of talk on here about using single ability focused classes so the prime ability can be maximized for best effect. That would be optimal for solo right? So paladin, Magus, and such are out? I want versatility but as a solo character, I need to hit as much as possible or will feats like weapon focus combined with magic items make up for that?

I also need advise on a prestige class if any. Like for example, the fighter seems like he should just stay a fighter. No prestige class I have gives improvement to armor and weapon training and ranger gets no improvement to his ranger enemy list. It seems to me that if you go for prestige, you give up some cool stacking for specialization in something that is useful but your still not improving the main features of the base class. In some cases (wizard -loremaster, rogue -shadowdancer/ assassin, etc) looks fine though so not all the time.

Also, would adding additional classes be advisable? Would the lack of specialty affect me in the long run? Am I just over thinking all this? I appreciate your opinions and info very much as this will be my first Pathfinder character.

Hello all. I am going to be starting a new Pathfinder game with a GM and its just them and myself playing. I am making a level 1 character and using core, and ultimate magic. I was curious about a good solo class. I keep thinking about healing so I look to the paladin, but I also see advantages to playing a Magus for versatility. Then again, I am really liking the fighter to and, well many others.

So my dilemma is I am having player's block. I have never played a one on one campaign at the start and had others to help with survival and versatility but now I am on my own. Any suggestions?

@TimD YES! My God how I do suck in expressing myself.Lol! You actually put in words what I was trying to do from the beginning about high level play and I am in complete agreement with EVERY response you posted.

You are right that I started with becmi with my magic user, then upgraded(?) to adnd 1e shortly thereafter. This only lasted 2 years as when I moved to an area that only played adnd 2nd edition had to switch again. As soon as 3rd and 3.5 came out I switched yet again. I did play my magic user/ mage / wizard as my sole PC only because for the longest time I enjoyed magic so much and that when my game group changed occasionally, I was lucky enough that I was the only player or they had PC's of similar level so I could continue playing said character.

Although I really need a break from wizards I still like them, but back to the point. You are right in that I have a adnd mindset after playing that for such a huge length of time. I guess you may be right that I think wish is still the same after all these years. I have reread them and see obvious difference now. I guess sometimes the mind sees what it wants to see.

I still like high level play that will never change but I also think there should be limits in some regard for any classes capabilities. I can't even watch dbz after Freiza saga because It becomes to over the top for even me. I used to think I was a power gamer because m?y sweet spot was around level 18 or so from the access to 9th level spells.

Let me be clear though to people that might misunderstand my love of magic all those years. I played one character in dnd but I have also played star frontiers, gamma world, rolemaster, marvel superheroes (faserip system), lords of creation, dangerous journeys, lord of the rings(coda system), scion/vampire/mage/werewolf (white wolf), DC RPG, rifts, star wars d20 and saga, and a few others. All the while in fantasy I always played the wizard. In some systems magic isn't that powerful and my choice was always wizard (see lotr coda for example). It was just my flavor.

I am glad that I am not the only one looking foreward to Myhtic. There has been a character idea that I have had for the longest time and I really want to get started :)

Yeah that's about right. I remember becmi and still have it, well RC/ WOTI anyway. Iused to want to play an immortal so badly but after Ashardalon, Lolth, Night Below, Under the Dark Fist, and to many to even remember I think I am done with that aspect of the game. Immortals are way to powerful and I could barely handle a lowely wizard.Lol!

As for the kingdom thing, that's actually never been an interest of mine. Rulership scares me. I never wanted to start a character with even an ounce of noble blood as it just doesn't feel right. I don't want to feel entitled nor have responsibility for other people's lives. In game nor irl but I respect any who could handle it.

It's doubtful a Fighter can do "many things" with 2 skills per level and no synergy with Int.

Fighter has good damage and AC, and that's about it.

Well yeah, he isn't going to be like a rogue in that regard but he can have one skill that gives him versatility atleast. With fighters, I have to take some non warrior skill. I don't just want to be a soldier, I want a little something to add flavor like art, diplomacy, or something along those lines.

Which is why I am retiring from the wizard class for awhile.Lol!

Actually. I am really liking the fighter in Pathfinder. With their weapon and armor training, weapon specialization and mastery combined with a healthy dose of feats, they have finally taken a stand and become what they should have been all along. The wizard for me is over with. Sure, they are Batman with a broom but it gets boring pulling a spell out of my hat (arse) and insta solving any problem that comes my way.

I'm finding and perhaps starting to prefer classes that give you challenges where you have to think and aren't assured of easy answers. Yeah, wizards are powerful but so is the fighter and when you add up the variuos feats, weapon mastery, and skills in their various combinations a fighter ( or any character) can be versatile to. Maybe they can't fly or teleport but they can charm ( diplomacy) , become invisible(hide), and many other things besides. With the right feats and skills any character becomes Batman. Also a fighter can dish outbas Mich damage as a meteor swarm with the right feats, items, and even a well placed feint or intimidate check could make that invincible wizard standing safely in his prismatic sphere to stumble back out of it's confines and into the blade of the fighter's fury. But as long as they are fun to play when that's what you want at the time, then everything is peachy.

Okay I see your points. Truelly I do, but my point seems to be misinterpreted. I played dnd and converted my mage to 3rd edition and eventually when epic came out, I was stoked. You see I only ever played one character and with such focus he was level 30 after 24 years of play on a weekly basis (high level handbook 2nd ed).

Now initially I was salivating at all the power the epic level handbook promised such a well established character. I admit I even talked with my dm about playing him as a God. He went on many adventures and did many things which at the time I was proud of, but looking back am no longer. I won't bore you with the details but lets just say I was a powergamer and that book made all my dreams come true to the point where one day I woke up and said it had gotten out of hand.

The time had come to deny the existence of the one character I promised myself I would always have and be proud of but to my own ambition, completely ruined because I had to have more. What I was trying to accomplish was that mythic vibe but I let epic get in my head and as a result, lost my way in that regard.

I don't know. In my post I was giving my opinions when maybe others haven't had the same bad experience with epic that I have and maybe my opinions might not matter to anyone since many do stop at lvl 10 or so. I don't have a sweet spot when it comes to retirement of characters and I get attached and keep seeing new directions for a character to go and grow in.

All I was trying to say was I am excited about trying Mythic and I think it might be the scope I was looking for all along. I see it as pretty damn innovative and at the same time, a balance between my love of mythology and not going overboard as was the case with my wizard. I'm actually thinking about a mythic warrior of sorts as I am tired of wizards now.

Anyhow, let me apologize for sounding how I sounded and to clear up the matter. I was actually curious about other folk's opinions as well and not just my own. The title was supposed to be an open invite to share your opinions and any definitions of what you had as well which is why I was a little vague about the point of the thread. I was trying, apparently unsuccessfully to evoke your musings and maybe give me some insight as well.

I understand that epic has been talked about by paizo as well as everyone else. I know people disagree with me on leaving it out. I haven't heard any reasons why they think it would be a good thing to bring it back and I am only wanting to hear their side to. I am and will never be an authority of the RPG realm but that's life.

Anyway, the point was I am happy to finally get the chance to play as a mythological hero for once. To ME it is very stimulating and along time overdue considering it was that influence that made me want to game to begin with.

Um, I didn't have an argument or issue. I had definitions and opinions as the title of the thread states. And I respect the fact that your opinion is beyond 20th level for epic play, however it is not mine.

Hello all! This is my first post and first topic. Let me start by saying that I have been an avid roleplayer since the young age of 12 and I am 36 now. My humble origins in roleplaying began not as a fan of fantasy( although I was in fact just that), but my awe and wonder when I read books on mythology.

Now, what I envision and you envision when we think of our ideal fantasy RPG may be 2 seperate things, but I think its possible to agree on a few minor points:

1) Epic play should be a state in which the characters possess supreme mastery of their respective abilities, having no equal except other masters.

2) Mythic should be of a state from whence the word originates, mythology. An aptitude and a cut above mere mortals.

Now with that out of the way, let me present my most humble opinion. Some people regard epic level as anything beyond what is in a rpg's player handbook or core rules, but I would beg to differ. A wizard dreams of the mightiest spells, a fighter dreams of ultimate skill in battle, a cleric desires to fulfill his deity's will in the world, and a their seeks the greatist thrill ( examples) .

We already have this in the core rules and other class supplements. What spell could possibly be more powerful than a wish or to take on the abilities and form of others and strike them with meteors from the heavens? What fighter can attain more than 4 attacks per round and achieve weapon and armor mastery better without becoming the God of war himself? What priest could command the already godlike power of ressurection, divine storms, and miracles ? And what thief cannot attain all he desires with the awesome skills and capabilities of a level 20 thief?

Our definition of epic has become so outstanding and unweildy that it is commonplace to ask for more and more until the designers of our favorite game cave and give us what we want. But how often has it happened that by getting what we want, lose the playability of said system and have to wait for the next edition and fresh start, only to have the same happen again and again?

I hope epic never comes. We have what we need already. We have epic.

What I am most excited about is the new mythic adventures oppurtunity. We can finally play those heroes that got me in to gaming to begin with. Now before you say "If you want to play Hercules, Circe, The Oracle of Delphi, or Hermod ; play a fighter, wizard, cleric, or thief". Well I would be that as there is the small problem of all of them were born with abilities that can only be quantified as what is coming in Mythic Adventures. Hercules, Circe, The Oracle of Delphi, and Hermod were all born not as high level members of their respective classes, but a completely different state of existence. They had to learn their crafts despite their natural greatness.

In closing, these are only my opinions and not my need to change anyone's view of the topics at hand. I hope, however that you can trust in the vision that the designers have for us and that, maybe I helped you see things in a different light so you might enjoy this new direction for Pathfinder as I no doubt will.

I wish all of you a wonderful day and eons of exciting and wondrous adventures.

Happy gaming :)
