We have launched our Kickstarter to fund the Psionics Guide, a 200+ page full color, hardcover book!

At the time of this posting, the project is already nearly 70% funded in the first day.

The Psionics Guide will have:
11 psionic races
4 psionic classes
Psionic Feats
Psionic Powers
Psionic Equipment

There are stretch goals to unlock additional content like more content, more artwork, and psionic character sheets.

You can back it here!

If you want to learn more about the contents, you can check out our playtest packets on the Dreamscarred Press Starfinder Psionics page.

The playtest for the Psionics Guide continues! While we continue to digest all the information from Wave 1 - Signal Confirmed - now get ready for Wave 2 - Signal Decoded.

In this round of the playtest is the Specialist class, a psionic manifester who is a versatile and adaptable class that takes its roots from the Marksman, Dread, and Cryptic classes from Pathfinder.

Also included are the rules for Autohypnosis, three more feats, psionic focus, power displays, manifesting rules, and forty psionic powers. Constantly hungry for feedback, folks, lay it on me if you’ve got it!

As a proud owner of Ultimate Psionics, is there a plan to combine some of these newer releases into an Ultimate Psionics 2 at some point?

Possibly - but with quite a few Psionics Augmented in the works, the question would be where to stop.

I will say that we are in the process of taking the Psionics Augmented releases for Wilder, Soulknife, Psychic Warrior, and Disciplines and putting them into a softcover, since right now they're only available in PDF. I'm hoping to have that ready next month.

I realized that although we'd been getting our new books up at the store, I've done a terrible job of announcing them! So here's your round-up of new Pathfinder RPG options from Dreamscarred Press!

Some of these might be a little bit old - but if you haven't heard of them, then they're new to you!

Psionics Augmented: Highlord - Play as a new psionic base class, the highlord, who uses manifesting and control tactics to lead his allies to victory. Includes the new class, its tenets and powers, new feats, and alternate racial favored class options.

Psionics Augmented: Highlord II - an expansion for the highlord base class, this book includes two new archetypes and four new tenets and their powers.

Divergent Paths: Fool's Errand - a brand new Path of War martial-themed discipline, as well as new feats, tradition, and archetype.

Unfettered Dreams: Malefex - the malefex is a new psychic class focusing on curses and street tactics, with
21 knocks, 43 malefactions, feats and favored class bonuses, and the rustpicker archetype

Psionics Augmented: Occult - The compilation of our Occult Psionics series, this book combines all of the constituent parts into one 90-page book. It looks like it's not available here in print (I'll have to get that sorted...), you can get it in print from Amazon or Dreamscarred.com

Bloodforge Infusions: Esoteric Energies - This 19-page PDF includes 3 new races, the astreidi, the eiremian, and the ethumion, alternate racial favored class options for these races, new feats for the new races, and the ravid creature.

Will you be converting Ultimate Psionics to Starfinder, or starting from the ground up?

It's not a direct conversion, but we're keeping a lot of the thematic elements of it. So, kind of somewhere in between is the best way to explain it, I suppose. Things that no longer make sense to keep are going away, things that need to be changed are being changed. Things that fit in Starfinder are coming over within Starfinder's paradigm.

In the distant future, when magic and technology have blurred the lines of what can be accomplished and travel among the stars is a reality, the powers of the mind have flourished. Introducing the Psionics Guide (working title), a psionics system for the Starfinder RPG!

The Psionics Guide will include the psionics rules for the Starfinder RPG, as well as new races, classes, feats, archetypes, and more! This isn’t just Psionics Unleashed for Starfinder. We’ve evaluated every piece of psionics to determine what fits in the game and what needs to be changed.

After the Psionics Guide, we plan to release new creatures and enemies for the Starfinder RPG, including new psionic monsters. Other possible supplements include additional new player options like races, classes, feats, powers, and items, as well as adventures and monsters. Psionic space ships and other vessels are being considered for later supplements

At Dreamscarred Press, we try not to give a timeline, as we don’t work on this full time, so we do not yet have an ETA for when these books will be available. However, we plan to run our playtests in public to get player and community feedback. We have found that public playtests make the products better and we intend to continue that tradition.

Released in 2014, Path of War introduced the maneuver system for combat in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Since that release, there have been some items that need to be updated in the book based upon further feedback and analysis. To this end, we have compiled the changes into an errata file. This initial 11-page PDF file includes those changes except maneuver-specific changes. That additional work is still ongoing and will be released once available.

You can download the errata here!

I love the flavor of Rend Body, it's a great concept :)

What's the deal with the save, though? It says Fort partial (see text), but nothing in the text mentions a save. Is it Fort for half damage, like Burst of Force?

So, uh... I wrote that a while back and looking at my notes... I believe I intended that the Fort save would block the limb from being removed, but you'd still suffer full damage... but I might have also intended it to reduce the damage, but not the limb removal. I'm PRETTY sure it was to block the limb from being removed, but I'm not 100% sure.

That's a mixup on my part for not putting that explanation in there, but I don't want to claim official ruling on that.

Burst of force is kind of fun, though having it centered on you is a bit of a bummer. Debilitating pain is, uh, wow. Mind-affecting, but you're screwed even on a successful save for a round, so that's pretty damn potent. Reflexive barrier is pretty nice, I think, and I love the rend body line of spells...gruesome.

Glad you liked them!

So... we currently have two hardcover books available: Ultimate Psionics and Psionic Bestiary. Psionic Bestiary is only available in hardcover from limited locations, since hardcover is much harder to get into distribution than softcover.

For Path of War, there is currently Path of War and Path of War Expanded, both in softcover. We have not combined them into a hardcover, although that is something we have discussed.

Also for Path of War, we have PDF options in the Divergent Path series - currently with the Roil Dancer and Medic releases.

Finally, for psionic releases post Ultimate, there are:
Psionic Bestiary (B&W softcover, color softcover, color hardcover) - book of monsters
Psionics Embodied (B&W softcover, color hardcover) - book of NPCs
Psionics Augmented: Seventh Path (color softcover) - psionics and undead
Psionics Augmented: Mythic Psionics (color softcover) - mythic support

There are also additional PDF-only supplements for psionics.

It is something I'm working on as time allows - it's just finding that "as time allows" that's the trick.

The latest in our Divergent Paths series of supplements for Path of War, the medic, is now available! The medic introduces combat healing using the Path of War maneuver system. But don't think the medic is only about healing - she can kick butt in combat, too.

Included with the medic you also get four new archetypes, new feats, alternate favored class options, and four new magic items.

You can get the Medic here from Paizo, and also from the Open Gaming Store, DriveThruRPG, and Dreamscarred.

The Medic was made possible thanks to the support of our Patreon campaign.

To be clear, you have:

Feats
Point Blank Shot (Core Rulebook)
Psionic Shot (Ultimate Psionics)
Psionic Shot (Mythic) (Mythic Psionics)
Mythic Psionic Attacks (Mythic Psionics)

Overmind Path - Naturally Focused path ability

If you expend psionic focus as part of a ranged attack, you would gain 4d6+2 (4d6+3 if you are within 30 ft.) on all ranged attacks for that round.

Do you have a link to the Patreon queue or the page on the DSP site that the class is published?

We don't really have a formal queue - every month or two, we take a vote from our Patreon patrons for their top two choices. The top two vote-getters then get artwork ordered and layout underway.

This month, we'll be releasing Psicrystals Expanded. The artwork for the Medic is still being finished, so it's likely not going to be released until December, since we try to limit our Patreon releases to one per month.

We post the voting results publicly on our Patreon page.

My experience playing a vitalist is the more interesting encounters are the ones that don't rely on hit point damage as the threat.

Detrimental effects, compulsion effects, abilities that take someone temporarily out of the combat, strategic tactics - all of these are far more effective than "throw more damage at them!"

And my experience is that single-enemy encounters are already largely trivialized due to action economy - 4 actions each round vs. 1.

But, some game styles play differently. To each their own.

Dreamscarred Press

6 people marked this as a favorite.

As one of the designers of the vitalist, let me give some of my view on it (all of the below is my personal opinion, but shaped the vitalist design):

Healing is one of the least effective things your character can do during a combat / encounter. You're reacting to damage that's already been dealt to prolong the encounter. That's it. Typically, your best course of action is to end the encounter as quickly as possible. Healing is the opposite of that. You're spending your actions to make the fight take longer.

Until your character or the enemy hits 0 hit points or below, any hit point damage has essentially no effect. Once the combat is over, healing options like a Wand of Cure Light Wounds are incredibly cheap ways to bring you up to full health.

So really, the only thing that "matters" is in-combat healing to keep you from getting under 1 hit point.

The vitalist does this well. It's intended to, because healing sucks. As a player, it's boring. My gaming group throughout the years has had to rely upon NPC healers because nobody wants to do it. As a tactic, it's only a stalling tactic, it's not really an effective tactic.

By 15th level, Limited Wish has become available, and your GM is upset that you can heal hit point damage?

It sounds like your GM likes to use hit points as a player resource to maintain the flow of the game. The problem is not that the vitalist is too strong - the problem is your GM's play style and the vitalist mitigating a boring and tedious part of the game don't get along nicely.

Just my 2 cents.

This has been what I've found most jarring.

It really has been.

Every time I try to write up something about this, it just feels... lacking. Something's always missing in the message.

Steve will be deeply missed - the large number of people who will miss him, I think, is a testament to the kind of man he was. I don't say that because there are many people offering their condolences, although that is certainly not a bad thing to have. I say that because of how many people are devastated by the loss of this amazing fellow and how much of an impact he's had on so many.

His was a life worthy of envy, a life cut short, leaving us wishing for just a little bit longer with our colleague, mentor, and friend.

We supported this idea back when John Reyst was trying to put something together like that. I believe it was already mentioned - 3Play? There was a lot of activity on that topic and it didn't pan out.

Without knowing all the details, I can't commit either way, but a fee-based structure just to get included raises some significant red flags to me. And if there's a moratorium on any new subsystems, then Dreamscarred's involvement is moot anyway.

The print proof for Path of War Expanded was received and reviewed and a few things were discovered that required a revision. Most importantly, several images needed to be lightened up because they were nearly unrecognizable due to ink saturation into the paper. Given print copies aren't as easy to update as PDFs, we decided to submit for a revision to fix these issues. We also took the opportunity to fix a few typos and other minor items, since we were doing a revision anyway.

The revisions have already been submitted to the printer and we are awaiting the revision before we give the go-ahead on the prints so that we can get all preorders shipping.

GhanjRho's excellent explanation is almost perfect, with one minor exception:

Psionics Augmented: Seventh Path and Psionics Augmented: Mythic Psionics are both available in print books and are larger in size. Neither are in Ultimate Psionics and both expand the options from Ultimate Psionics.

So this is a valid question and one I wanted to respond to.

As mentioned above, we have quite a few people wanting to write books, but there's a couple of bottlenecks in getting them to release. Layout and artwork are the two bottlenecks, and for artwork, it's often budget more than artists available, or it's the delay in coming up with the art order and getting a finished piece back. That's why our Monster Class line has been coming out so rapidly - we have artwork available, the content completed, and the layout has been going quickly. We've also brought on a couple folks to help with layout, which will hopefully be speeding things up that have been waiting to get out the door.

The other thing is that we have a variety of developers working on different things. While there is some overlap on who is working on which projects, once things get done and put into playtesting, writers want to write. And if they want to work on projects that fit for us, we're more than happy to let them! If the book's going to get written one way or the other and we like the project, it's a win-win.

Milo - yes, the second part of Psionics Augmented: Soulknives will be out hopefully soon.

Akashic Mysteries is our next big project that will wrap up now that Path of War Expanded is off to the printer. The Supplemental Content ended up being a gigantic release and the proofreading on it took quite some time. With those two things out of the way (Path of War Expanded and the proofreading), it's going into layout so we can get the book compiled and to the printer.

The Medic is ongoing support for the Path of War product line, just as Occult and Soulknives are ongoing support for our Psionics product line.
