Atten-shun, soldiers! Please use this thread for mechanical or thematic feedback on the guardian. Please avoid having discussions on feedback given by posters in this thread and save that for other threads or venues. This is a place to collect opinions for easy review, not to debate their merit. Thank you for participating in the Battlecry! playtest!
Hey folks! Don't think we'd forget about the Puzzle Hunt this year! You can find the PDF to the fourth annual PaizoCon Puzzle Hunt pinned in the Puzzle Hunt channels on the PaizoCon Discord server! What Is a Puzzle Hunt?
The puzzles’ answers are then combined in some way (that you have to figure out) in a final puzzle that leads to an ultimate solution! If you think you have the right solution, you could win a prize! How to Get Help!
Second, you can ask the puzzle masters or your fellow solvers for help on the Discord channel or in this thread. Please use spoiler tags in either format when revealing hints or puzzle answers! To tag spoiler text on Discord, simply highlight the text and an option to use the spoiler tags should appear over (it’s the eyeball). How to Collect the Prize!
One prize per person (not account), and prizes will be awarded after PaizoCon is over, once all account emails have been collected. We will no longer accept answers after June 1, 2020. Find the Secret Bonus Puzzle!
Hey folks! Joe Pasini and I are proud to bring you an all-new puzzle hunt at this year's convention! And, in even more exciting news, the puzzle hunt's main page/instructions will appear in the program! This will let you know where to find the puzzles and what to do with your final answer. The puzzles themselves will be available by the ticket swap board (near the delves), and Joe and I will try to be around that area every day from 5 to 7 to give our prizes and clues (though if you find us anywhere else during the con, we'll do our best to help you out). This year, you'll have to discover the seven shards of an artifact known as the virtuous sihedron and bury them in certain places throughout Varisia in order to stop the return of the runelords... for a few months, at least. And this year also includes some fantastic graphic design by our own Sonja Morris! You should use this thread to talk about the puzzles with fellow solvers, trade tips, and hopefully have a good time. Enjoy!
Attention puzzle lovers! This year, fellow editor Joe Pasini and I have created a puzzle hunt for this year's PaizoCon...with valuable prizes! What is a Puzzle Hunt?
You can pick up a packet of puzzles on Friday at the store. we're not real sure what kind of response this will get, so we are only printing up a hundred copies of the puzzles...for now. So, first-come, first-serve on that front. Oh and did I mention these puzzles are STARFINDER themed? Yes, they are! We hope you enjoy!
Here's a sneak peek at the goblin pregens for this adventure!
Years before I started working for Paizo, I started a tiny game company called Pantheon Press. We made a couple of d20 products right as Pathfinder was becoming its own thing. We then decided to go our own way and create an original RPG system. And boy, did we ever. Fortune's Fool ditches the dice and uses a Tarot deck as its resolution system. Its set in a fantasy version of the European Renaissance, where elves, dwarves, and orcs abound and magic still influences everyone, from merchants to princes. While it wasn't a runaway hit, it was pretty well received by a few fans and we won a Judge's Choice ENnie in 2011. We have since released a full campaign that pits the Brothers Grimm against one another, a supplement that expands options for players, a supplement that explores the far-flung Hindustan, and numerous free products containing mythical magic items that range from Mjolnir to Santa's sack. You can read more about all that at our wesbite. But if you don't have time to read, why not listen to a podcast? I was recently on Game School to explain the game's mechanics and run a short, sample adventure. It was a lot of fun and if you choose to listen, I hope you enjoy it! I ran a Fortune's Fool one-shot at PaizoCon last year, and I plan to do this same this year. If you'd like to take the system for a spin, sign up when that becomes a thing that you can do! Also, feel free to ask me any questions right here!
Rod of Exorcism
The bearer of a rod of exorcism gains a +2 sacred bonus on saving throws to resist the effects of a haunt. Three times per day, by tracing a circle in the air with the rod as a standard action, its bearer releases a burst of positive energy that deals 5d6 points of damage to haunts only. In addition, the wielder of a rod of exorcism can touch it to a possessed victim to drive out the possessing spirit. If the possessed target is acting hostile in any way, this requires a successful melee touch attack by the wielder. The possessing creature is ejected from its host body, and must succeed at a DC 14 Will save or be dazed for 1 round. Once used in this fashion, the rod becomes ice-cold and loses all of its powers for 24 hours.
I'm running Burnt Offerings as PbP game on another site, so I've got some time to mull over an interesting tactic that the group is attempting. They made their first assault on the thistle tunnels in front of the fort and they acquitted themselves pretty well. They managed to capture Gogmurt the goblin druid, but not before the little blighter could send an animal messenger to Chief Ripnugget. Of course, Gogmurt has spilled the beans on Nualia and her cohorts. Here's what they'd like to do next (one of the PCs giving orders to Gogmurt): ***
We don't want to kill any of your tribe, but if they are in our way, we will. Therefore, my small friend, I need you to give the longshanks lady this message: We have killed Tsuto and know her true name. Unless she and her companions meet us here at dawn tomorrow, we will use our own black magic to bind her soul and torment it for eternity!" Rauno's eyes become big and he raises his hands in the air for effect. "If they do not meet our demands, or do not believe you, collect what tribe members you can and flee the fortress. You do not want to be around once the ritual begins. Any soul near the longshanks is sure to be drawn in along with hers."
The PC speaking here is a rogue/fighter who managed to make a pretty good roll with his Bluff check. Another PC severed a dead goblin's head and scratched some Thassilonian runes on it to give to Gogmurt as sort of a calling card. So I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to adjudicate this. I want to reward them for a clever plan, but of course, they can't get exactly what they've asked for here (the least reason of which is that the four non-goblins in the fort would cream the party if they all fought together). Any thoughts?
