Yeah, the pearl has the dumbest DC to identify. It's impossible without using a spell. That said, I have always just chosen NOT to give the pearl and give stuff that was more easily identified. Further, there is only one commonly known magic pearl type, so if you are a prepared caster and have spellcraft at all, you have probably heard of it and can figure out what it is...by deductive reasoning.

Watching what is going on, he holds back slightly, watching and waiting. Hoping things don't get violent, he has his ideas ready...

Question for the GM:

Per the final paragraph of Charm Person: You must speak the person's language to communicate your commands, or else be good at pantomiming.

Nowhere does it actually say that the target has to be able to hear you to be affected by the spell. What is your ruling on this, as due to the nature of this encounter and the spell's wording, I could see it being ruled either way.

"Sure, you carry the bag...let me just carry this...," with that, Ace pulls out the Wand of Burning Hands and slides it into his coat. "I will need a holdout weapon, in case I run out of spells..."

Once the wand is securely put away, Ace follows Herman, climbing down and then back up. Taking 10 both times!

GM, when I made my spell's memorized decisions, I had not realized we would be in a group with 2 clerics. That said, we have slept, so may I change my spells memorized before we reach any further encounters? I'm ok, either way.

Then with a deft movement, he kicks his backpack opened so that the few things inside can be seen. A sunrod, a few days rations, a couple of flasks of alchemist fire and acid. From the looks of things, he has no weapons, at all.

After the halfling starts talking he can't help but turn the grin to a smirk, then when the pair finishes speaking, the young gambler scratches his chin as if he is thinking for a moment.
