Izoma grew up on the sordid streets of Katapesh, orphaned as a child she learned to make do with what she could scrounge up. Her alertness and speed kept her whole and out of the hands of the authorities and those with darker intent. For the past several years she has worked as a runner/personal assistant for a visiting foreign scholar, a venture captain for the Pathfinder Society, One Banalis Venturon a Chelaxian ex-patriot.
Banalis taught Izoma her numbers and letters and the scripts of several languages during her term of employment. During this time Izoma lived at a level of luxury unheard of a scant few years earlier, fresh clean clothing (albeit simple linens), fresh food never an empty stomach and a safe haven in a small antechamber off of Banalis's study in his apartment.
Banalis also taught her the rudimentary skills of magic, after many bumbling attempts she has developed a knack for it, particularly the art of conjuration and summoning.
When she has tried other styles and forms of magic she has intense difficulty, but the art of calling items from the ether she has excelled at. Recently as she studied by herself practicing summoning various rodents she decided to try and call on something new. More instinctively than intentional she summoned her eidolon Musaka. This encounter was different than anything that had happened before instead of the creature being summoned to where she directed she felt an overwhelming presence within and without her, as if her mind was slightly pushed aside in her head and the space filled with an alien and equally frantic "entity". Immediately she struggled to maintain control and possession of her facilities and Musaka, scarred fought back. The struggle left her room in a ruined state, vases broken, chairs smacked and her writing desk ruined, but in the end she had taken control, and quickly released the "entity". She laid amongst the debris of broken glass, spilled ink and tossed papers sobbing in tears.
This is how Benalis found her, and after several cups of kaff he was able to coax the full story out of her. Over the next few days Benalis encouraged Izoma to recreate the situation, something she had sworn to herself to never do again, but she gave in to his patient requests and she managed to reproduce the spell and this time more easily maintain control of the creature Musaka.
Under the tutelage of Benalis Izoma began to understand the process and the relationship between her and Musaka became deeper, it was as if Musaka was a protecting older brother, a long lost part of her soul shattered and reforged and now at her beck and call to protect her as needed.
When finally Benalis's time in Katapesh had come to an end he invited Izoma to return to Absalom with her to the grand lodge, where he and his contemporaries could better study this seemingly unusual magic. In exchange she would be admitted into the Grand Lodge as an initiate. After a year of examination and training she graduated early from the ranks and was assigned by Benalis, now here Venture Captain to accompany Master Garavel's caravan to Kelmarane to investigate the ruins and it's history.
