Born in Minkai, Inari grew up in the province of Hiyosai. While it wasn't a terrible place to live by a longshot, Minkai was coming closer and closer to an all-out civil war, and Inari's parents feared for their only daughter's well-being as a result. While they were able to work comfortably, her parents did what they could to provide, straining their bodies for every gold piece they could, saving up for a grand fund until eventually, the pair had amassed a sizable pile of gold. With the funding out of the way, the family traveled across sea and land for a new home, following rumors of a fortified city, Lastwall. Surely, that would be safer place to raise a child, even if it meant leaving the home of their ancestors behind.
So it was that the family migrated to Lastwall with the money they'd saved up with their hard labor, but life wouldn't be what they expected it to be like. Not only were there threats surrounding them, but they weren't even exempt from conflict inside the city's walls. While they were human, they were also different. They weren't natives. They looked different, they sounded somewhat different...and Inari was no exemption from this rule. There were many times when she was blamed for some form of mischief, even if the premise made no sense. Racism was prominent, even in regards to interracial conflicts. Thinking it was safer for Inari to stay out of "trouble", she was encouraged to study her heritage, in the form of various tomes, scrolls, and artifacts from their family. The most notable of these possessions were a bladed scarf, passed down from generation to generation, and a single urumi. The scarf was practically a piece of art, showing the fate of her ancestors through pictures and the finest artsmanship, slowly blending from a crimson to a blue. From her research, Inari picked up knowledge of the old times (to an extent), including the art of several dances passed down, just as the scarf and urumi had been. And so, she began to dance, practicing day in and out. Her body would become a mobile piece of artwork once she mastered the maneuvers, whirling in and out like the lightest of breezes.
Despite the relative period of happiness and peace Inari had been graced with, it was not to last. Near her sixteenth birthday, she'd come to discover an inkling of the problems that threatened the city, and while it wasn't her birthplace, she considered it her home nonetheless. A chance to help, perhaps that was what was needed for people to give her family a break! Even if it wasn't, she certainly couldn't pass up a chance to improve her dance and tell tales of whatever creatures she might encounter along the way! Unfortunately, news of this reached the ears of one Isaak Bickings at an inopportune time. Nobody knows quite how it happened, but the last few payments her parents sent to the banker for payment had "gone missing", leaving them in crippling debt. Days later, Inari was called by Isaak's agent, Eldred Moyer, for a conversation. Isaak was a shrewd banker, but a "kind one", he said. He was willing to keep her parents out of prison if she performed a simple act for him. She was to spy and watch for certain individuals of interest, giving any details to Eldred and Isaak when commanded. It was blackmail, but she had no choice. What started as an endeavor of pure intent had become corrupted, and as she stood in line alongside her fellow recruits, she felt the true weight of the situation strike home at last. She'd be giving the entire town a reason to hate her...
