![]() Hi I am running my second game for a mixed group all of them are new (3 played once before in my last game the other two are entirely new to D20). A problem I ran into last time was times when my players are outside of constrained areas. They were fine in dungeons or places with defined walls but I run into issues when the PC find themselves in a desert, forest, or other very open environment. Because they are new they need a little nudging because they aren't yet confident with what they can do in a game. I find times when they are able to go from point A to B or C is much easier than putting them at the middle of a Cartesian plain and saying have fun. Any suggestions to help me "urge" them along into exploring on their own as well as progressing the story without having the plot train steamrolling them constantly. Thanks for the advice : ) ![]()
![]() I'm thinking something different first off the players get the choice to either try to dodge the attack or attempt to take it. (they can't always dodge an attack) if you choose to dodge you use your reflex save, if successful, you avoid the attack. you don't add DEX to AC anymore, instead you add CON. If you choose to take it your AC is DR so your AC is subtracted from Damage. "What!?!" you say "That is so over powered!" BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! Each type of armor is bypassed by by a type of damage example Chainmail is bypassed by piercing (possibly bludgeoning as well..but we will see) and so we can have a scenario: joe the Rogue has a 12 Con and he's wearing a chainshirt so his ac is 15 (10+ Con mod 1 + Armor 4) an orc swings a falchion at him we assume it does max damage 2d4 max= 8+4 (very burly orc) 12(damage)-15(AC) he takes no damage This time same thing happens but Mr. Orc has a Ranseur so 12(damage)-11(CON+10) he takes 1 damage My only issue is that he didn't really take a lot of damage, perhaps when against the "weakness" type the victim only gets their CON, he then takes 11 damage instead of 1 Thoughts? I feel I'm on to something with this but I'm up for some help refining it! ![]()
![]() I was curious if it would be a good idea if the ranger received a bonus to movement while in their favored terrain perhaps even just +10ft or scale it, it seems strange to me that a monk could out distance a ranger in there "home" that or bonus to movement types example, water they get bonus to swimming or in mountains the get climb bonuses. ![]()
![]() Hey all, I was just curious what some of your favorite character ideas have been that either poke fun at or down right go against the grain of the typical ideal of what the class should be like. I'll give a few of my favorite examples. Barbarian: Pro wrestler kinda guy doesn't carry any weapons but uses improvised weapons, etc. Bard: Deathmetal Gnome (Nathan Explosion) Druid: Soviet Dwarf with Bear familiar who worship the "Motherland" (not out of the ordinary but I liked the pun) Fighter: a guy nicknamed Captain Falchion (stupid puns gotta love them)
Sorcerer: a guy who has no idea what kind of power he has and no control over it. shouts "AHH BURN BURN BURN" as large creature runs toward him and confetti shoots from his fingers as a random spell gets cast ( an idea I haven't tried but thought would make for good roleplay, eventually learning to control and choose what is cast) Summoner: a squirrel from a family of awakened squirrels living in a forest protected by a druid, the animals are all awakened in thanks from their ewok style defense of the druids forest when naughty paul bunyan came to play, goes by the name of Ashtail Squeakum, shouts abnoxiously to his companion using stupid move names "Alright Snargoth use poop rain!" (obviously a pokemon reference) But yes please let me know your favorites have fun with it! ![]()
![]() So I am running a campaign in which my girlfriend is playing a Nixie. I'm hoping to give her a fitting mount and I was thinking Nixies live in ponds. Ducks live in ponds. Nixies could ride big ducks! I haven't found a "duck" or "swan"entry for stats to play around with, anyone have any suggestions on how to build it? ![]()
![]() I'm hoping to convert the Garrador from Resident Evil 4. Not necessarily an exact copy but the concept is just interesting to me and I'm hoping to throw a blind deadly creature at them that attacks when it hears them (preferably in a small space to add to the creepiness factor). Anyone with experience building creatures willing to help me out? ![]()
![]() First off I'm not certain if this is in the right place and if not I apologize. I was just curious what seems to be going on with the sais. Now I realize they haven't changed since 3.5 (at least, I've only played 3.5) but their damage type and amount confuse me. Why doesn't the business end of a Sai do piercing? I understand that the blunt "pommel" end could do bludgeoning but the tip as well? Another issue I have is why do they do a measly 1d4, the same amount as a fist,(lethal granted but still). Another thing I noticed was that the Nunchuku deal 1d6, surely sai's would deal equal, if not more damage. I'm just curious why a level one monk deals more damage with his fists than with a pair of Sais. I realize that nunchuku came in a variety of materials and that a metal set with momentum can be quite lethal but I just can't see them out damaging a pair of Sais especially against an armored opponent. I'm more curious (and perplexed) than anything, I appreciate your opinions on the matter. |
