Background:
Tahllana Skyhunter was born into the Tiri Kitor, a tribe of elves living in the Blackfens. Her father was a famous warrior, Garavin Skyhunter, known among her people as the Storm Owl. Tahlanna's gifts lay in different areas, however, as she shunned the camaraderie of her fellows and preferred solitary jaunts into the forest and swamps. She became known for her skill as a guide and her touch of arcane power but also for her frequent blunt disagreements with the leaders of the tribe, whom she considered too conservative and cautious in their ongoing war with the lizardfolk. When she began a romance with Lanikar Nightshadow, a young and brash owl-rider, his older sister, the High Singer of the tribe, disapproved and used her influence to try to end the relationship. When Tahllana learned of Trelarra's interference, she stormed away from Starsong Hill, furious.

Lanikar was loath to anger his sister but didn't want to abandon Tahllana, either. He began secretly to meet with his lover away from Starsong Hill, riding his owl Lokio on assignations. He never showed up, however, for their latest rendez-vous, and after several days with no word from him, Tahllana swallowed her pride and returned to the tribe to find out what had happened to him. When she arrived, she learned that he had been killed by a razorfiend and that a party of outsiders had gone into the ruins of Rhest to deal with the threat there. Angrily, she accused Trelarra of complicity in her brother's death, by interfering in their relationship and, ultimately, by being too deliberate in advancing the war against the lizardfolk and their new allies. She left Starsong Hill, determined to find the group of adventurers and join them in their battle to serve vengeance upon her paramour's murderers.
