Digging into their bag, they pull out the datapad they were given, covered with extra audio inputs and a slightly jury-rigged bit of extra wiring. Waving at the (other) bug-people, Hish says out loud, "You have to talk into it! Talk--" they mime holding the translator up to their mouths and moving their lips, "--and we'll be able to understand you!" It looks like the translator needs to capture 10 minutes of conversation before it can begin its work.
