Only the LORD can save you.
"Back before sunset, right? Godspeed, right? We prayin' for you!"
<Hank tosses a few more Bibles across.>
"Keep it close!"
Crackles back: "Roger and God Bless, Al! Ezekiel be idling and ready to go."
"Okay then, it settled. Let's make the Lord proud."
<Hank flicks on the motor and idles alongside.>
"Great, I have a minute or two share some good news with you, Miss Samantha, right? Your friend's name?"
Sgt. Curtin wrote: "Hey you guys can you give us the 411 on zombie placement around the area at the moment?" Dave Judd wrote: “… riiiight … Um, so no zombies in the immediate vicinity then?” "Last night big people picnic around here. All clear this morning."
Sgt. Curtin wrote: "I still got the one from before, but thanks! Say a prayer for us, we're headed in to get the gear we left behind." "Okay we cover you. God rays and hunting rifles."
"I gonna shoot you with a God ray, Albert. Holy Spirit!"
"You watch your language Albert or I shoot you."
"It's all a big metaphor. A God message about sin of the flesh, about consuming. The Lord is talking, are you listening?"
Sgt. Curtin wrote: Patrick looks over at Hank
"Considering the close shave I just had, I'm beginning to think the Lord just might be looking out for my sorry behind."
"These days if you isn't eating long pork and hiding in the shadows The Lord is sure looking out for you. Hey, you need another Bible?"
<Hank pulls out a few more and throws them across before you get the chance to answer.>
"Praise Jesus!" he says in his thick Chinese accent.
"And in answer to your question, the Lord is going on."
So I see you have found some lost souls. Can we be any help to you? Your new friends?"
<In a voice deeply tinged with unimaginable confidence:>
"May the Lords will be done, face the coming tribulations with Jesus in your hearts, my friends!"
Mike:
<Hank tosses a Bible to Johnny.>
"Keep the faith, Brother."
<Hank pulls a bible out of his cardboard box and throws it across to Mike.>
"Here kid, try this."
"These folks are waiting for friends, trying to group up small but still big enough for safe, you know?"
"You go downtown I think back in boat good idea. Either that or fly. And pray lots you don't get eaten."
"These things look for you when you move, when you make noise, and we think maybe smell too, but when lots of them maybe they no smell and no hear so well. After they eat up they go hide in dark. Trees, rooms, buildings. Real careful in buildings."
"And pray lots"
Somehow, miraculously, his voice carries over the hammering bass, the gunfire, and the lyrics "Smack my b1tch up" ... as if he were a hundred feet tall.
"Turn not your backs on the axeman, brothers, but the falcon brings with it the gates of hell!"
<Now almost growling. Pointing right at you... every one of you.>
"And not even God can help you then if you don't run!"
<Looks over at Sarge.>
"Open your heart and let the Lord be your wrath, brother!"
<He reached into his box and pulls out a bible, tossing it across into the Rae-Ann.>
"Read and you can't deny!"
Hank cries out "For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?"
<This tiny man's calm voice carries potently above the shouting and boat engines.>
"... And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird."
Johnny:
Hank shouts at Mike and Johnny, shaking his finger like a TV evangelist.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
"We cover your buddies when they run onto dock."
<He looks back at his friends Gordon and Stan in the back of the boat.>
"Let's make these right with God."
<They nod. He pulls the boat in along the west pier where everyone on the boat will have a clear shot at the back of the clubhouse.>
<Hank pulls a small pocket bible out of a cardboard box at his feet and holds it out to Judd.>
"You keep this, maybe you reconsider later," he shouts above the roar of the Evinrudes.
Hank starts singing:
"One day we takin off baby and ever since the Lord saved me
I've been waitin for the day we can say, it's all gravy
It's all crazy tryin seeing to see life when its all hazy
How can I persist to do right when I'm all lazy?
Feel me? Too much pain it all ails me
Vexed, cause I can feel the effects of the Fall daily
The pain in my chest is strong, let's get on
Come Lord, quick, bring on the eschaton..."
Shouts at Judd: "You alright with the Lord, Dave? Now is good time."
<Hank points over his shoulder with his thumb and shouts over the roar of the twin Evinrude 75s as he heads to the clubhouse.>
"These guys is Gordon and Stan. They talk lots usually. Right now we gonna get Albert and your friends."
<He pats the gorgeous 20 foot fishing boat.>
"This my fishing boat. You like?"
"I'm Hank Wang. We're cool Mister Judd. No shootey-shootey, just help people."
<Hank flicks on his WT.>
"Time to retreat Albert, you think?"
