The hecuva (and its remaining image) twist in Sajan's grip.

Again it laughs in response to Nuveril's questions.

He. He. Father, mother, sister, brother? Who can say? He He. But the bones know. Oh yes. Ask them.

ASK THEM HALFLING! The last with a roar.

Turning toward the monk it slashes at him with both claws. Sajan manages to lock up the left but takes a number of scrapes from the right, one a deep cut that oozes blood. Fort save please.

Claw 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 26 (grappled, flank) hit
1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Claw 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 17 (grappled, flank) miss
1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Linah, Khalid, Zeladiel.

The skeletal priest, the hecuva, sniggers at Nuveril's questions.

I am HALRUUN! Priest of this temple, priest of this town. I delivered you bloody from your mother's womb halfing. I killed noone. All I did was whisper. heh heh. A few words from my master. Like a little birdie. heh heh. They did all this themselves.

It was easy. They were all animals. Just under the surface. Just like you are. Oh I see. I see you. heh heh.

Now why fight me? Wouldn't it be easier to just lie down and join them? Your family. heh heh.

It surveys the battle, evidently frustrated that you are blocking its way to Linah. Turning to Grall, it looks at his dagger. Nasty, nasty, silver.

In a blur of motion it slashes at the gnoll with its long fingers, coming in low and cutting him on both sides. Grall can feel the filth encrusted around its bones enter his body. Fort save please.

Claw vs Grall 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 hit possible crit
1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Claw vs Grall 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 hit
1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Crit confirm 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Heh heh.

After the attack the hecuva takes a step back, placing its back to the debris in front of the altar. Note -C, 9 and 10 are open terrain allowing a five foot step.

Map is here.

NOOOOOO!

The halfling smirks at Nuveril as the barbarian heads toward her.

Its rounded, cherubic features seem to melt away like mist leaving a hideous skeletal face framed by shreds of stringy hair. It grows taller, broader, its body taking on a masculine appearance. Slaves rags are replaced by grubby, ash-stained vestments not disimilar to Linah's.

It speaks with a hideous, slurred voice, as if through a mouthful of soggy parchment.

The prodigal daughter returnss. heh heh heh. Welcome to my cchurch. Did you like my facce? Your motherr or ssister or ssomething. Can't keep tracck can I. heh heh heh. But the blood. I ccan alwayss tell the blood it ssmellss soo ssweet! Sshe's here ssomewhere. With the otherss. heh. heh. You musst have ccome to join them!

It seems to drag its eyes off Nuveril with an effort, looking to the rest of you. When it sees Linah it .. hisses.

MY CCHURCH! MINE!

My faithfull ccongregation will ssee to you. Oh yess. heh heh.

It gestures and where one creature was standing there is now four, each version shifting and moving around the others. It (and its swirling doubles) moves forward ten feet, just in the dim light (B,-8).

DM:

1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Knowledge: Religion DC 12:

The creature seems to be a hecuva, a cursed undead who was once a living priest it commonly haunts the locations it occupied in life and uses illusionary magic to entrap its victims.

It is resistant to weapons except those which are magical or made of silver.

Knowledge: Religion DC 17:

As above.

A hecuva's claws inflict a horrible wasting disease, filth fever. It is also resistant to positive energy channeled by goodly clerics and can share that resistance with other nearby undead.

Knowledge: Religion DC 22:

Disguising itself as it did as a much smaller creature not to mention creating illisionary doubles of itself should have been beyond the hecuva's capability.

Its speech also implies a much greater level of intelligence than you would have thought possible.

You've heard rumors of more powerful forms of such creatures. Perhaps it is one of these.

Sajan is up.
