Scarab Sages

I enjoyed it, too.
Gave me a chance to test one of the new classes (albeit one month before they change them!).
I want to keep using him; maybe re-use the stats as an NPC in my own game?

"Now, we have that dinner, if it hasn't gone cold."

Scarab Sages

"Time to see what those bloaters were hiding, I guess."

Scarab Sages

Back from PaizoCon yesterday, and catching up on other stuff till now. Just have me readied to cure anyone who needs it.

Scarab Sages

I'm off to PaizoCon UK today, but I'll try to keep looking in on the thread.

You might want to roll to confirm with that.

I just roll my confirmations at the same time, just in case.

Scarab Sages

Yeah, sorry. I thought I'd been assumed to have stepped out last round, to let a fighter at the back in.

It's important they have their action readied, so I don't leave a gap for the ghouls to exploit.

If I'm still at the front, then I'll take my attack and step back.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Potential confirm 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3) + 1 = 8
Potential crit damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3) + 1 = 8

If I'm already at the back, I'll cast Protection from Evil on whoever stepped into my place (who will have dropped to my Initiative).

Scarab Sages

You two at the back can't hit anything. Are you planning on delaying till I step back?

Scarab Sages

"I'm confident I can laugh off the ghoul-fever, but not the paralysis. If I go down, the healing wand is the white one."

Scarab Sages

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Potential confirm 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3) + 1 = 5
Potential crit damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 1 = 6

"I think someone should get ready to jump into this spot, after I attack."

If I get a positive reply, then I'll step back after my attack, to let them in.

Scarab Sages

"Oh, my poor old bones, here we go again..."

Move to stand near the chained door.

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Potential confirm 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4) + 1 = 6
Potential crit damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 1 = 4

Scarab Sages

Is the ship on a tilt?
IE, would the area behind the chains be submerged?

"That swollen door may be all that's holding back the sea.
Opening it could scuttle this bucket."

Scarab Sages

"One more cure, then..."

Cure Light 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

"This Pathfinding is a costly business, to be sure..."

"I'm still fit as a fiddle, so I don't mind opening the door to belowdeck."

Scarab Sages

"There's a bounty on him, or so I thought?
We'll not collect on that, it he's feeding the sea-devils."

"I just want to be out of the way of greedy locals.
Can we get a message to Osprey?"

Scarab Sages

"Time to revive Rondu, then search the ship."

"Better bring DuMoire belowdeck, then strip him there."

Cure Light 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Scarab Sages

Oh, choices, it's great we get a whole round where no-one dropped.
I think if there were other pirates around, we'd have seen them by now, so I can afford to get stuck in.

Wait till the opening appears, then if DuMoire is still up, cast Inflict Light Wounds, stepping in to deliver the touch attack.
This, in addition to the base damage, will inflict 1hp of bleed per round, until he gets healing.

Touch Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 plus bleed 1.

If he's dropped before then, go down to Rondu and cure him.
Cure Light 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Scarab Sages

I'm going last, so I assume DuMoire is going to retreat into that corner, to avoid being flanked. If and when he does so, I'll cast Stabilise on Rondu. Unless I see someone else taken down with a goodly blow before then.

It sucks to be declaring actions at the start of the round, when you're going last. As last active healer, everything I do is conditional on the next three actions.

Best to ask me again, when it gets to me.

Scarab Sages

I don't believe you can get a flank on Fatty.
As for me, it would be a shame to waste a 20...

But, seriously, I'm going last in the round, so I can't predict what the situation will be, by the time it gets to me.
I have a sneaking suspicion Fatty may be going down, but so could another of us.
I can't heal fast enough to match the damage he can deal, so I think I need to keep him busy.
If he's focussed on throwing, I don't think he'll be as dangerous in melee.
I'm unscratched, so I'm happy to take the AoO that could drop anyone else, then the rest can make their way up at their leisure.

So, assuming Fatty gets decapitated...and at least three of us are still up...

Climb up to the foc'sle, take his free hack, then start laying into 'Mr D'Arcy'.

"Rondu's fine! I can stabilise him from up here! Just surround this joker!"

Scarab Sages

Thank goodness for that!

I'm going last; assuming Fatty is still up, I'll take a swing at him. Otherwise, I'll try to get up to the boss, and attack him. I'm happy to take an AoO if need be.

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Potential confirm 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1) + 1 = 5
Potential crit 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3) + 1 = 5

Scarab Sages

"Something tells me we have our man."

Is the dagger thrower on an elevated platform, or is he peeping out of a door in a cabin?

"Another dose for you."

Cure Light wand on Fendrel 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7.
If that gets him conscious, then I'll tuck the wand in my belt, and go round the right side of the ship, to end up in the square to the right of the fat sailor, drawing my falchion as I go.

Scarab Sages

FYI: I found this on the blog, that serves as a good PC sketch.
Not many half-orcs out there, or rather, not many non-evil half-orcs, and even less with an 'Arabian' theme.

Scarab Sages

"Well, looks like he's not dead."

Scarab Sages

"Augusto; you get them. I've plenty of magic left."

Given the number and accuracy of those daggers, I won't risk being disrupted. Time to use the cure wand on Fendrel, while Rondu can sup his potion.

Cure Light Wounds 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Scarab Sages

It's one or the other, unfortunately. I'm on my way, with plenty of healing

Time to make it up to the top.

Are the ropes hanging nearby, or do I have to move across to start climbing?
I'd rather not jump from boat to boat, so if I have to, I'll use the rear of the ship to drag my boat over to the bottom of the rope.

If I don't need to do that, and/or if I have time left, start climbing.

Climb 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 1 - 2 = 14

Scarab Sages

Load the crossbow again, and ready to fire at whichever sailor becomes visible, at the rear rail, or over the side.

Crossbow shot 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Potential crit confirm 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Damage 1d8 ⇒ 4
Potential crit damage 1d8 ⇒ 5

Scarab Sages

Don't forget a -2 penalty for armour.
And the fact there's only one rope attached.
And it's above the other boat.

"I think we'll have to cover the others while they climb, then go up after them."

"Plus, I suck at climbing." he thinks, hoping the others will be too busy to see his fumbling efforts.

Load and fire the crossbow, unless the sailor disappears from view, in which case ready the shot at anyone who appears at the rail.

Crossbow shot 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Potential crit confirm 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Damage 1d8 ⇒ 5
Potential crit damage 1d8 ⇒ 1

Scarab Sages

I don't suppose there's a big half-orc-sized hole in the side of the ship?

Scarab Sages

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

I'll shoot a light crossbow at whichever one is still up; if both are up, then the one on the left.

Crossbow shot 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Potential crit confirm 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Damage 1d8 ⇒ 6
Potential crit damage 1d8 ⇒ 2

Scarab Sages

"No, but I can spare another."

Cure Light (spont) 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

That, plus the last one from the wand should have you back on full, I believe.

Scarab Sages

Three cheers for the elven curved blade!
That should settle his hash!

Scarab Sages

"No, you bloody aren't!"

Well, I'm not fighting three of them on my own. Looks like I'll have to give you another shot.

Waving his falchion ineffectually to keep the sahuagin's head down, I press the tip of the wand against Augusto's neck once more.

Cure 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

"There'd better be some damn booty on that ship", he muses, contemplating the 45 gold pieces he's blown in a matter of seconds.

"Grab those oars, Rondu! No-one's told these cod-faces they're losing!"

Scarab Sages

Ah, dangnabbit. That means the spell's blown, but he didn't draw AoO. If he goes before me, then I'd like to change my action, to jab him with the wand. I'm happy to store that crappy attack roll, for an auto-miss on my next attack. I don't want to benefit from hindsight.

I think I need to start adding alternatives in my posts;
ie. If X, then do Y; if A, do B.

Scarab Sages

Augusto Mancha wrote:
I cast my last spell for the day, another Cure light wounds

You casting defensively, or just hoping they don't hit you while you do it (and can make the Conc check)?

I don't want to take back a crappy attack roll, but if he does cast before me, and draws all the AoO, losing the spell, then I'd far rather lean in and Cure him myself, believing they won't have Combat Reflexes.
If he goes after me, or gets his cure off, then I'll swing wildly away.

If I'm committed, then that's OK. Or if I save that roll as an auto-miss on my next actual attack. It's just more awkward to predict the changing situation when we post out of order.

Scarab Sages

18/18 sounds good to me!

Clench the wand between my teeth, and start swinging again...

Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Potential confirm 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2) + 1 = 7
Potential crit 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4) + 1 = 8

Scarab Sages

Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

Draw wand from sheath (move action), but is there an AoO?
Don't know if this counts as drawing a weapon; it's certainly not something I have to look for in the bottom of my bag. The rules give no middle ground for AoO when drawing ready objects that aren't weapons.

"Hmm, now, is it oak for healing, and ash for killing, or the other way round?"

Just kidding, Cure Augusto 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 hp.
Unless I've been mauled below 5hp by that point, in which case, on me.

Scarab Sages

Stepping off the boat would be a really bad idea. I do believe we left the dock?

Does drawing a wand provoke an AoO? I think I may just have to do it, since casting defensively is harder, and it's a caster level check now. You get your casting stat bonus, but there's no skill ranks, these days!

Scarab Sages

"Don't worry; I can keep you going if need be!"

Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

Attack roll 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Potential confirmation (if required) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

(It's 00:50 here; just rolled back from running my game, and I'm off to bed, so I'll roll confirmations at the same time as attacks, just so I'm not holding anyone up.

Damage 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4) + 1 = 8

"Gaah! There's three of 'em on us!"

Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Attack roll 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Scarab Sages

"Keep your eyes peeled for that sea-cat."

Scarab Sages

woot!

@JZ; Don't worry; I won't be spamming that skill on everyone.
I honestly didn't plan to have it that high, I just wanted to try a half-orc, now they no longer have to be stupid, and it just 'happened'.

Scarab Sages

"No need to get your money out, pal."

to the dock guards
"It's no longer just the Eagle Knights and the Church of Asmodeus you'll have to watch your backs for.
Mr Fancy-Pants Darcielle just killed a 'made man', and burned all his bridges with the real powers of Diobel.
Any promises he made aren't worth a single copper.
And if they can't get him..."

"...well, they'll just have to take out their frustrations on anyone who helped him get away."

"You should be paying us, for making your problem go away. So you and your families can sleep at night."

Intimidate 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22. While we're on a roll...

I don't know how much we are assumed to know about the local mob/thieves guild/etc, since I don't know if we are locals. That's why I'm keeping it vague, who 'they' are.

Scarab Sages

****ing hell, Augusto; did we both really roll that?

Scarab Sages

"Don't waste your breath on them; if they don't want to talk, that just means more fun for me."

"I don't need them to be alive, to make them squeal...Hurrr, Hurrr."

Intimidate 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30. Either as a separate check, or to aid Augusto, or vice versa.

Scarab Sages

Is it the case that no legal mooring or trade is supposed to go on down here? If we bray someone, I want to be sure they deserve it.

"The girl told us Darcielle wasn't planning to stick around; he was going to move the ship to another mooring, but it would still have to be hidden until it's mended. Which means it would probably still be nearby."

Scarab Sages

"If she gets word out, we could find ourselves mobbed; on the boat, or on our way back."

I'm well sleepy now, so I'm going to have to turn in.
I'd like to stop her getting away, and truss her up in the back room, but I don't want to hold up the group (players or PCs).
My stats are all on my profile, so if you think it's possible, I'll pin her, headbutt, stabilise her and tie her up; if not, well, it's no big deal.

Hagruk, you can attempt a grapple or trip. Her CMD is 10.

Ok, I'm totally clueless about this, which is best, but I believe I've calculated this right.

I'll try for the grab, then it buys time for the others to get back in.

Grapple 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Scarab Sages

Did we tie her up? I thought we did.
If not, I think we'd better. Do we play it out, or can we say four of us trip her up, tie her up, and bop her on the head again?

But not before I ask a further question...out of earshot of the others...

Spoiler:
"How many men does he have with him? And how many are casters?
Remember, if you tell us false, and I live to return, I can arrange to deal with you without the others present.
And I haven't eaten today..."

Sense Motive1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Any chance either one of those counts as an assist?

"I don't think anyone's in need of healing; Augusto sorted himself out, and Fendrel just took a scratch. Jammy beggar."

Scarab Sages

"That's why I pulled my punches, with a merciful blow. No chance of a nasty accident, then."

"Besides, didn't you yourself tell me she was not what she seemed? The fact that she's a pretty girly doesn't prevent her being dangerous, in fact more the opposite."

"But let's get this other door open, so we can be out of here."

Scarab Sages

I call out to anyone behind the other door;

"The others have been defeated. I give you a choice; to hand yourselves over to the law, and walk out of here on your own two feet, or be carried out in a chum-bucket, like these fools!"
