I enjoyed it, too.
Gave me a chance to test one of the new classes (albeit one month before they change them!).
I want to keep using him; maybe re-use the stats as an NPC in my own game?
Oh, choices, it's great we get a whole round where no-one dropped.
I think if there were other pirates around, we'd have seen them by now, so I can afford to get stuck in.
Wait till the opening appears, then if DuMoire is still up, cast Inflict Light Wounds, stepping in to deliver the touch attack.
This, in addition to the base damage, will inflict 1hp of bleed per round, until he gets healing.
I'm going last, so I assume DuMoire is going to retreat into that corner, to avoid being flanked. If and when he does so, I'll cast Stabilise on Rondu. Unless I see someone else taken down with a goodly blow before then.
It sucks to be declaring actions at the start of the round, when you're going last. As last active healer, everything I do is conditional on the next three actions.
I don't believe you can get a flank on Fatty.
As for me, it would be a shame to waste a 20...
But, seriously, I'm going last in the round, so I can't predict what the situation will be, by the time it gets to me.
I have a sneaking suspicion Fatty may be going down, but so could another of us.
I can't heal fast enough to match the damage he can deal, so I think I need to keep him busy.
If he's focussed on throwing, I don't think he'll be as dangerous in melee.
I'm unscratched, so I'm happy to take the AoO that could drop anyone else, then the rest can make their way up at their leisure.
So, assuming Fatty gets decapitated...and at least three of us are still up...
Climb up to the foc'sle, take his free hack, then start laying into 'Mr D'Arcy'.
"Rondu's fine! I can stabilise him from up here! Just surround this joker!"
I'm going last; assuming Fatty is still up, I'll take a swing at him. Otherwise, I'll try to get up to the boss, and attack him. I'm happy to take an AoO if need be.
Is the dagger thrower on an elevated platform, or is he peeping out of a door in a cabin?
"Another dose for you."
Cure Light wand on Fendrel 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7.
If that gets him conscious, then I'll tuck the wand in my belt, and go round the right side of the ship, to end up in the square to the right of the fat sailor, drawing my falchion as I go.
FYI: I found this on the blog, that serves as a good PC sketch.
Not many half-orcs out there, or rather, not many non-evil half-orcs, and even less with an 'Arabian' theme.
It's one or the other, unfortunately. I'm on my way, with plenty of healing
Time to make it up to the top.
Are the ropes hanging nearby, or do I have to move across to start climbing?
I'd rather not jump from boat to boat, so if I have to, I'll use the rear of the ship to drag my boat over to the bottom of the rope.
If I don't need to do that, and/or if I have time left, start climbing.
Ah, dangnabbit. That means the spell's blown, but he didn't draw AoO. If he goes before me, then I'd like to change my action, to jab him with the wand. I'm happy to store that crappy attack roll, for an auto-miss on my next attack. I don't want to benefit from hindsight.
I think I need to start adding alternatives in my posts;
ie. If X, then do Y; if A, do B.
I cast my last spell for the day, another Cure light wounds
You casting defensively, or just hoping they don't hit you while you do it (and can make the Conc check)?
I don't want to take back a crappy attack roll, but if he does cast before me, and draws all the AoO, losing the spell, then I'd far rather lean in and Cure him myself, believing they won't have Combat Reflexes.
If he goes after me, or gets his cure off, then I'll swing wildly away.
If I'm committed, then that's OK. Or if I save that roll as an auto-miss on my next actual attack. It's just more awkward to predict the changing situation when we post out of order.
Draw wand from sheath (move action), but is there an AoO?
Don't know if this counts as drawing a weapon; it's certainly not something I have to look for in the bottom of my bag. The rules give no middle ground for AoO when drawing ready objects that aren't weapons.
"Hmm, now, is it oak for healing, and ash for killing, or the other way round?"
Just kidding, Cure Augusto 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 hp.
Unless I've been mauled below 5hp by that point, in which case, on me.
Stepping off the boat would be a really bad idea. I do believe we left the dock?
Does drawing a wand provoke an AoO? I think I may just have to do it, since casting defensively is harder, and it's a caster level check now. You get your casting stat bonus, but there's no skill ranks, these days!
(It's 00:50 here; just rolled back from running my game, and I'm off to bed, so I'll roll confirmations at the same time as attacks, just so I'm not holding anyone up.
@JZ; Don't worry; I won't be spamming that skill on everyone.
I honestly didn't plan to have it that high, I just wanted to try a half-orc, now they no longer have to be stupid, and it just 'happened'.
to the dock guards
"It's no longer just the Eagle Knights and the Church of Asmodeus you'll have to watch your backs for.
Mr Fancy-Pants Darcielle just killed a 'made man', and burned all his bridges with the real powers of Diobel.
Any promises he made aren't worth a single copper.
And if they can't get him..."
"...well, they'll just have to take out their frustrations on anyone who helped him get away."
"You should be paying us, for making your problem go away. So you and your families can sleep at night."
Intimidate 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22. While we're on a roll...
I don't know how much we are assumed to know about the local mob/thieves guild/etc, since I don't know if we are locals. That's why I'm keeping it vague, who 'they' are.
Is it the case that no legal mooring or trade is supposed to go on down here? If we bray someone, I want to be sure they deserve it.
"The girl told us Darcielle wasn't planning to stick around; he was going to move the ship to another mooring, but it would still have to be hidden until it's mended. Which means it would probably still be nearby."
"If she gets word out, we could find ourselves mobbed; on the boat, or on our way back."
I'm well sleepy now, so I'm going to have to turn in.
I'd like to stop her getting away, and truss her up in the back room, but I don't want to hold up the group (players or PCs).
My stats are all on my profile, so if you think it's possible, I'll pin her, headbutt, stabilise her and tie her up; if not, well, it's no big deal.
Did we tie her up? I thought we did.
If not, I think we'd better. Do we play it out, or can we say four of us trip her up, tie her up, and bop her on the head again?
But not before I ask a further question...out of earshot of the others...
Spoiler:
"How many men does he have with him? And how many are casters?
Remember, if you tell us false, and I live to return, I can arrange to deal with you without the others present.
And I haven't eaten today..."
<sniffs at her meaningfully, Hannibal Lecter style>
"That's why I pulled my punches, with a merciful blow. No chance of a nasty accident, then."
"Besides, didn't you yourself tell me she was not what she seemed? The fact that she's a pretty girly doesn't prevent her being dangerous, in fact more the opposite."
"But let's get this other door open, so we can be out of here."
"The others have been defeated. I give you a choice; to hand yourselves over to the law, and walk out of here on your own two feet, or be carried out in a chum-bucket, like these fools!"
