Backstory
Gunnar was born in Dammerhall a century before the fall of the city. Since his youth he showed talent with crossbows, both in building and in using them. Those qualities were soon appreciated by the city authorities, who recruited him as a thiefcatcher. He entered the job with the devoted determination of a dwarf serving his society, and soon he was entrusted with the most difficult of hunts, pursuing criminals, foes and oathbreakers alike, wherever they lurked.
Eventually he married Hilde Hearthkindler, a devoted of Folgrit and a brilliant enchantress, although the marriage was childless. The absences from home made their relationship complicated, but through stubborness and affection they persevered as much as fate gave them time.
When the Darkflame struck, he was trapped in Dammerhall, trying to hide from the shadowy power which was wreaking havoc upon his city. But his abilities did not protect him from unexpected magic, which turned his body to stone. And there he remained, protected and restrained by a grip of merciless, cold rock.
Personality
Personality traits according to Ash's guide:
Gunnar's Primary Motivator is Service: he is mourning his lost city and friends, and wishes to annihilate the cause of that downfall in order to restore Dammerhall and the Tharnhammer lineage.
His Emotional Disposition is Calm: he approaches his quest of revenge trying to keep a temperate outlook, even when the fire of revenge is burning in his breast. He is more likely to be sarcastic than explosive, and he took to his job with professional detachment rather than vindictive zeal.
His Moodiness is Phlegmatic: his fires burn low but steady.
His Outlook is Neutral: he would be normally optimistic and trusting in society to mostly work together in common accord, but it's hard not to be bleak when awakening to ruin and destruction.
His Integrity is Conscientious: as befits a dwarf.
His Impulsiveness is Controlled: he tries to act professional and composed in everything he does.
His Boldness is Cautious: not due to cowardly but to vigilance. His way is the hunter's, patiently awaiting his best chance.
His Agreeableness is Disagreeable: he grew up in a rather isolated environment and never was much of a people person. He can be sarcastic, sardonic and stubborn to a fault.

Description
Gunnar is a rather ordinary-looking dwarf with hair and beard in an ash blonde color already heading towards grey. He wears a mithral shirt engraved on the shoulders with the symbols of Kols and Dranngvit on top of a hunter's garb. On his right arm is strapped a pelletbow, a dwarven crossbowlike contraption engineered to throw sling bullets.
