Hi, Printing from book either end up with a print with a part twisted from the curving of the page toward the center or if you put more pressure in the book while printing risk damaging the binding and page eventually falling from the book. So I wanted to know if permission to print pages were available in a PDF with ONLY those pages like "character sheet" or "downtime tracking sheet"... Ty ![]()
The RP cost make me feel like i'm creating an eidolon. and the cost make me feel wrong. My first concern is the 10 rp for standard race. Please use a higher number like 25, 50 or even 100 RP for standard race and price thing accordingly to it's usefulness. ability score are not equal Str affect melee atk, dmg, Carry, CMB, CMD, str based skill
to scale the thing you need to dived stat in 3 tier
by putting an arbitrary cost of 4, 5 and 6 for a 2 point modification. elf ability package would cost 7RP (6+5-4), while the human will feel right at 7 point for a single +2 because he can choose the ability score. Any extra stat bonus should cost more one and a half more so a +4 str would cost 15, a +6 str 24 Size Size should give the same bonus as per the bestiary table and be priced accordindly. Aka 10 feet reach for large humanoid, +8 to str,+4 con, -2 dex, +2 natural armor. If a large creature only have 16 str simply give them a -2 str racial modifier since it's a weak large creature. No tiny humanoid, make sens since it should probably be a fey but no tiny outsider... please be mindful of what already exist in the 3 bestiary while setting restriction for size. Language Human only get common , while all other race get there racial language and an either common or undercommon. Human can choose from any language except secret language while other race can choose from a list of 7 other language. this should cost the same, other race start with an extra language and the usual character will have 10 to 14 int unless it's his casting stat giving them only 1 or 2 bonus language. Racial ability Will benefit to be rescaled for a higher standard race total point. Some generalization would also be better. best exemple Celestial resistance 2 RP for acid, cold and electricity resist 5 while shadow resistance only give you cold and electricity resist 5 for the same 2 RP. This should cost 1 RP for each energy resistance 5 Movement Slow should be listed here as a flaw that increase your RP pool. as a side not not all slow creature are not affected by encumbrance. That should be listed properly under racial ability. About all those 0 cost ability no ability should cost 0, since it could lead to over-stacking. the 10 RP you limited yourself for standard race is probably the only reason you had to have so many of them. ![]()
(edited 30 jan 2012 so link is easier to spot) Official answer here From James Jacobs It's up to your DM to decide if they apply or not. In addition to basing this decision on the type of player (optimiser or not) it's also good to see what would be the impact to game balance. Basically by allowing it, the following things will happen: At 3rd level the cleric will have a channel energy of 3d6, the same as a 5th level one. So the party will a stronger healing source that it normally should have. This mean that they can survive encounter of higher CR more easily. The best thing to balance the game would not be use higher CR since it would end up in more loot and more xp, unbalancing even more the game, but to use encounter with AoE damage source. CR 2-3 dragon, alchemist with bomb and splash damage, low damage AoE trap, goblins with sky rocket, multiple low level mob to swarm the party...
At level 7 or 9 the party cleric will be able to return other party member to life for only 2000 gp instead of 7000gp (1000gp for each negative level + 5000gp for raise dead) This mean that the party can have member dying more often. The DM can play the monster with more deadly efficiency without too much fear of ruining the mood of the game, since returning from the dead will be cheaper than usual. Add-in the hero point system and as long as the cleric as 2 hero point to cheat death and a total party kill cannot simply occur. If the player avoid a TPK because the cleric used 2 hero point then returned to life the party to life it could be a good opportunity to force them to survive with minimal gear since all there valuable gear will be looted by there opponent. Reequipping them-self,getting rid of the 2 negative level per party member, then finally track down there slayer to exact vengeance and reclaim there original gear. As long as your DM know what to expect from allowing it and feel comfortable with that and can adapt to it so it won't ruin everybody fun, it should be fine. ![]()
when you look at the rule to craft a type of item, a wand for example, the bolded requirement at the bottom say this for a wand Item creation feat requirement: craft wand
my thinking is that the craft dc is 5 + item CL, if you use a craft or profession skill, and 10 + CL if you use spellcraft my reason why, that dc is lower for craft skill, is that spellcraft can be used for all crafting while a particular craft or profession can only be used for a few item type. In addition all spellcaster have a good incentive to max out spellcraft: identify magical item, scribe scroll, know what spell opponent just cast, create all magic item type, ... it's a versatile skill, not a specialized skill. common sens will say that dc should be higher because of that. and seriously, for every caster without spellcraft, there are probably dozens of caster maxed out or nearly so. it's THE must have skill for caster. a spell caster that maxed out a craft skill in addition to having a high spellcraft deserve to gain a bonus efficiency while crafting item related to there craft (in my opinion). But mostly it will be people with the magical artisan feat that will need it the most, since they are not caster they cannot meet spell requirement for a specific item and will have at least one +5 DC because they can't cast required spell. In the feat chapter, they first saw that spellcraft dc = 10 + CL. Then they told you that you can use a craft of profession instead of spellcraft and to check in the magic item creation section for more details about that. there are still no answer to that subject from a game developer about what DC it is actually. Is it a misprint, or the did RAW didn't end up as RAI. it's still a question mark and it's really up to your DM to rule out this issue. ![]()
As RAW the last line (Feats and effects that affect a paladin's mercy also affect this ability.) apply to nothing. Mercy Ability is describe as an added effect of lay on hand , so the only 3 feats that have mercy class feature requirement also have a lay on hand class feature requirement... and nearly all item that use/affect mercy also require you to have lay on hands like the "crystal of healing hands"... so as RAW it's totally useless. Now if we take into account that the merciful healer use mercy as an added effect to channeling positive energy and that paladin need 2 use of lay on hands to gain 1 channel use... Rules a intended is probably to allow you to take the feats with a mercy class feature requirement and that you replace the lay on hand part with channel positive energy, only if your class feature mercy is involved somewhere in the magical item/feat. the 3 following feat will be legal extra mercy
greater mercy
ultimate mercy
but not for feat like: reward of grace, reward of life, radiant charge and so on... Because they have "lay on hand class feature" requirement only ( as opposed to having "lay on hand AND mercy class feature" requirement) ![]()
Although player can use prestige class from closed content, not many prestige class are available for pathfinder. There were so many for 3rd ed that's it's nearly impossible to create new one that won't look in some way as i closed contend one. Archtype solve that problem by altering a whole core class into a 20 level prestige like class. This was a great idea and it solve a lot of play style problem. But there are still a few character that can't be play. warpriest and ultimate magus are good exemple. in the case of warpriest creating a divine archetype of the eldrich knight that allow divine spellcaster instead of arcane only could solve the problem. in the case of the ultimata magus that is a sorcerer/wizard mix, creating an arcane/arcane mystic theurge That could open many more character possibility like cleric rogue "divine trickster", priest of nature taking level in a divine(cleric)/divine(druid) version of mystic theurge and many more that an archtype on a core class can't allow. ![]()
Sorry in advance for the wall of text, story at the beginning and paladin ethic for the rest of the post. This is a funny story about a "warrior" in one of my friend game. The player introduced his LG "warrior" as a grumpy and bad mouthed character. When they encountered Mr.evil, that murdered multiple persons, in the first session, he started to yell "you f*@$ing bastard, why can't you just DIE!!!". That warrior was also always insulting the enemies and as a result was nearly always the target. After a few level and session, they encountered an evil dragon and the warrior started to yell at his allies " come on f&?king cowards, don't tell me your afraid of a wyvern the size of a damn horse, stop crying like a baby and show that little lizard who's the men!" followed by a "ok purse material, time to die... CHARGE !!!" After the fight, the cleric was unconscious. The "warrior" started to slap the cleric while yelling "come on wake up, sleeping on the job, WAKE UP!" and them the DM told him ok roll your dice for your lay on hand... only then did the other player got his true class ! One of the major problem with paladin player is that they usually play there paladin too far in the lawful side and not enough in the good side. One of the best exemple of going too far on the lawfulness is Asmodeus in the pathfinder setting. Asmodeus is not an evil god, he is a god of raw ORDER. But he is so focus on the law that he become evil. Who care if people suffer because of a law, the law is there, you MUST respect it or suffer the consequences. (and yes before you ask it, you can be an Asmodeus paladin, and yes slavery is ok for them since they live in cheliax, side note they only meet LN priest of asmodeus, and there order are twisted in a way that they never have to commit "evil" act, only lawful act.) When you look at your average paladin player they pay so much attention to the code to not loose there power that they end up plying there paly LE instead of LG. I really LMAO when i founded that asmodeus had paladin. One of the pitfall pally noob make is try to force other to act as paladin. You as a paladin is the one that need to obey the code not everyone. There is a rogue in the group that sneak opponent and use poison... You are not there to force him to change, but to show him that it's still possible to win a fight without playing dirty. (remember you are good not evil) and as long as he use dirty trick for the greater good you can live with it. (and even move to enemy so he can flank your opponent) Playing a paladin overly on the good side need both an open minded player and DM. The code is there to be obey, but you can stretch it's meaning as long as it's for the greater good. The guy over there is a mass murderer, escaped prison several times without mending his way. and now he surrender and beg for mercy... well he is still dangerous even if unarmed, he is using your goodness and respect of the code to extend his life so he could find a way to escape again. Basically he is twisting your code so that what ever you choose, you end up committing an evil act... Killing that dangerous guy is the only way to prevent innocent from suffering, it's the only just action to take. It is a necessary evil. This may put you at odd with your church, it may force you to seek atonement, but for the god granting you your power it was the rightful decision. In the example above i used the term "necessary evil". And paladin do a LOTS of them. As an embodiment of righteousness and up holder of virtues, they are striving to remain pure of heart. The best way is to always choose the path that will burden there soul the less, to do the lesser of two evil. An other rpg, Torg to name it, use a system of corruption and define the gain of corruption in a way that also meet the requirement for a paladin to loose his power. The definition is as follow: "If an act is evil, but is the only way a character can achieve a goal more important than his own safety, then the gamemaster should probably consider the act a necessary evil. To separate acts of necessary evil from evil acts that are not acceptable, we will use the term Wicked. The term Wicked is used to define people who commit evil actions that they know are unnecessary, and the actions these people commit. Wicked actions are actions of unnecessary evil. Slaying the Wicked is considered a necessary evil.
