I was attempting to make a character that had a good balance of both offense and defense and I saw that heavy shields are one-handed weapons. I'm assuming that you can then wield it in 2 hands to gain the additional damage and with improved shield bash you can maintain the ac bonus.

Odd mental picture but this could be a really good option. A balance of both offense and defense.

So does this work? and also would it work with shield of swings?

if so, full plate+heavy shield+shield of swings+shield spec+fighting defensively would be a nice 29 ac at lvl 1 :)

I was wondering if anyone has had some cool encounters with planar adventures. I am currently running a campaign for "planarteers" where they close rifts and have to deal with different plains but I am running out of ideas after the first 10 games ><

I was reading the rules for reach and small weapons, and I could not find anywhere that says that you don't get additional reach from the smaller polearms.

So....With my polearm fighter, if I really needed the AC I potentially could carry a small sized polearm one handed with a shield and take the -2 penalty correct? The Penalty doesn't seem as bad for fighters as it does for other classes, it would just be exactly like combat expertise.

So, for an upcoming game I am playing a solo character to not only solo a campaign but mess with a lawful good party that is also playing in this world. The character is from an evil society that is against magic and my particular character hunts down gods and magic users as a living.

I need some build advice on how to make this character solo efficiently without magic. I can use scrolls or potion I find and the kingdom does practice dispelling magic but any other magic is frowned upon. This is a level 6 character btw.

I was thinking a skirmisher ranger, fighter, or Inquisitor that focuses on dispel magic. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
