![]() I believe Ben and I are the last two in the building by the time the Hellknights begin banging on the door. I come running out of the kitchen with a jug of oil and a pot of flaming hot coals. I throw the jug of oil in front of the door, scatter the coals about the room, then as the room begins to blaze I dance down the stairs with Ben close behind me. Perform (Dance) 1d20 + 7 = (11) + 7 = 18 Standing tall with his chest puffed out and fists at his belt, Grachius announces: "Let us hurry to the next scene! I have an entrance to make!" And yes he actually says it just like that. Perform (Acting): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 Benicio Del Espada wrote: Ben sheathes his weapon, and brings up the rear, watching the barred door.

![]() At Lady Janiven’s attention, Grachius’s shoulders un-hunch and his face slides into a relaxed smile. As her attention leaves Grachius, something hard and emotional gazes out of his eyes and a hand tightens briefly on his rapier. Before anyone can even attempt a double take, Grachius has a radiant grin he says, “Well, my lady… If we must leave this stage, perhaps a grand finale is in order.” “Quickly everyone into the cellar!!!” Grachius orders as strides into the kitchen. Spoiler: After striding into the kitchen, Grachius grabs the first empty pot he lays hands on and begins using it to shovel burning wood and coals from the fireplace to anything in the room that looks like it could burn… While keeping an eye open for a bottle or jug of oil. Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 If he hears anything banging on the door, he’ll take a final scoop of burning coals and the oil, run to the exit to the cellar, toss the oil in front of the door and the last scoop of coals about the room, and finally dance down into the cellar… closing the door behind. Perform (Dance) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 ![]()

Unfortunately, I disagree. Now, I could argue an Attack of Opportunity is an ability. This is supported by trees not making AoO and by the ability being turned off by some conditions like Flat-Footed (and dead, paralyzed, and unconscious… though not as clearly). Now the counter to this argument is to say that Whirlwind Attack is not a bonus or extra attack as I believe Quijenoth did rather well. Now, this is where I’d bring up the better argument… an Attack of Opportunity is a “regular attack”. Since Whirlwind Attack says, “Benefit: When you use the full-attack action, you can give up your regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at your highest base attack against each opponent within reach.” The Attacks of Opportunity would be given up by the Whirlwind Attacker. Now it might be argued that a “Regular Attack” is not clearly defined. I’d agree with this too and think it should become #4 on list of questions needing official rulings. Until we get the official ruling, I think the best unofficial ruling is: Any attack not clearly defined as a special attack is a regular attack. Loopy wrote:
I agree with Loopy… It’s quite clear that Greater Trip does permit this. I do not think there is a need for an official ruling on this. The Grandfather wrote:
Neither. Lunge says, “Benefit: You can increase the reach of your melee attacks by 5 feet until the end of your turn by taking a -2 penalty to your AC until your next turn. You must decide to use this ability before any attacks are made.” Outside of Lunge, reach is only covered in two places. ”PRGCR pg 141” wrote:

Lunge does not provide you with a reach weapon nor change a pre-existing weapon to a reach weapon. Lunge does not increase your natural reach. So because of Lunge’s wording… regardless of whether you had a natural reach of 5 feet or 60 feet and regardless of whether you were wielding a reach weapon or not… Lunge only increases the reach of your melee attacks by 5 feet until the end of your turn. I do not think there is a need for an official ruling on this. Though I can certainly understand wanting the reach from Lunge to be considered part of the equation (reach weapon times two multiplier for natural reach)… If I asked for an official ruling on this, I’d feel like I would when I asked my father for permission to do something and he said no, then turning around and asking mom in hopes of a different answer. ![]()

Hmm… Seems kind of strange that a 10th character with a total skill check modifier of +10 would be considered an expert when an 8th level character with a skill check modifier of +20 would not be.. Before I arrive…:
I had thought the previous interaction with the lady had been at night… So I’m hoping this is the next day.
After I am done with the lady... I will do the following if I have the time. 6-14 hours before... Get what sleep I can. 5 to 6 hours before... I will switch to the garb of a filthy trash-picking beggar (concealed dagger) and check out Vizio’s Tavern and the surrounding area. I’m looking for escape routes… If I run out the back and out this alley, make a left and then a right I’ll be in the middle of a bustling market. If I jump out that window there and run down this alley I’ll be on a crowded street. I’ll try to nail down such a path for each cardinal direction. About 4 hours before... I will return to my inn room, clean up, and then take as long as possible to re-apply my disguise as Grachius… Including a black cloak. About an hour before... I will arrive early at the tavern, find a place within easy reach of one of my picked escape routes, but able to keep an eye on the entire room. I will then try very hard to blend in and become unnoticed while not completely hiding.
I will arrive an hour before the aforementioned time. I am a blonde haired male human wearing a Courtier's outfit (though without any jewelry accents), studded leather armor, a rapier, and a dagger. I have a black cloak on my arm (or sitting beside me once I have sat in a corner).

From your studies of the note (which is written on plain parchment available at any shop), you learn that it was written by a woman (or a man with particularly dainty handwriting), and the style seems reminiscent of Chelish writing, though, of course, an expert might be more accurate at pinpointing the actual region of Cheliax.”
What skills and rank totals would it take for me to become that expert?

Did I hear any accent to her spoken common? Even if I cannot identify it now, I’ll try to squirrel it away for later identification or even duplication. By the way, what is her cha?

Wondering if perhaps I was unaware of a language commonly spoken in Cheliax besides Common and Infernal... I switch from the role of skulking rogue to courting courtesan between shaky heartbeats… Standing up tall, I stride boldly up to her. Smiling as I approach, I give her a wink and throw an arm around her waist. Raising an eyebrow, I say in smooth seductive common “Yes, my lovely lady, you were most”, I use the infernal word for “bold”, and continue in common, “Perhaps a reward is in order, eh?” and then begin nuzzling her neck, my warm breath rolling across her skin. Carefully I use my other hand to keep track of her sword arm’s elbow. What’s my sense motive telling me about her? How about her reactions to the situation? Did she seem to recognize the infernal word I used or did she frown at its use? Most of all do I think she’s seen through my disguise or knows about my alternate identities? My disguise check should be pretty good, with the starting +14 on the character sheet, changing only minor features grants +5, different gender –2, and different race –2 should come to +15. Then taking 10 or 20 for applying the disguise.

After reading the note through twice more, I'll begin examining the note. I'll note the paper's thickness (weight), its natural coloration, and check it for watermarks. Anything stand out? After that I'll carefully study the penmanship, noting anything that might determine the writer's identity, nationality, or even sex... or some other clue as to what waits for him in the alley. Anything stand out? After carefully folding the note I'll stand up stretching, neaten my appearance (while tucking the note into my undergarments), toss enough coins on the table to pay my tab, and then boldy stride toward the front door. Once outside, I immediately check my rapier and daggers and then circle around the inn coming at the alley from the far side. As soon as I can I'll try to slip into the shadows so I can get a good look at the situation and the players before I have to commit to it. Feel free to make whatever rolls you think necessary, I'll trust you with them since it'll make the game go faster. Note: Any time I use a skill and I can get away with it, I'll take a 20. If I cannot take a 20, I will try to take a 10. Note: If there are any skills you think would be suitable for what I want to do and I do not have them, please let me know so that when I level I can take them.
