Niar stared for a moment at where he had seen the flash and grunted apprehensively. "Ye stay here. I'll go see 'nd what we have. Jus' keep ye hammers ready 'nd yer eyes sharp-- Torag be willing there's nothing amiss, but ye kin ne'er know; could be an ambush," Niar directed his companions, and hefted his own armaments. Perhaps it wasn't the wisest choice-- heading off the road, alone-- considering what had happened in the past, but Niar was more concerned about protecting his friends and family than his own well being. He swung off his pack so it wouldn't burden him while he investigated. He was also not known for being the most sagacious dwarf, but that was another matter.
He didn't bother trying to be unobtrusive about it. Even if he, dressed as he was in a rattling chain shirt and clanging around a heavy shield, had somehow managed to go unnoticed, the caravan behind him easily made twice as much noise. "If someone is out there, ye kin do us both a favor 'nd stop hiding like a coward. Ye kin fight if ye want, but ye'll not be finding such easy pickings this year," Niar called out, peering at the rocks warily.
