The first thing that might strike you about Gethin Romano is that although his surname is that of a respected family of Ifrit smiths, his first name is in the script of the mithral makers. He named himself after visiting them, and it means both "dark skinned" and "powerful lord"
Gethin was born in the town of Forge, to a family of once-reknowned blacksmiths. As a youth, he had two great desires: to rekindle his family's honor and glory, and to become a great paladin against the dark. Only one of those would come to fruition however.
Gethin was an excellent smith. Everyone said so, and the quality of his creations was always excellent. Possessing an abnormal tolerance for heat even amongst ifrit, he would often use his hands instead of tools for brief moments requiring precise movements. His specialty was weaponry however. He took great joy in crafting weapons to be used against the dark.
In regards to his other goal of becoming a paladin however, Gethin was dismayed. Although he underwent all the training, and took the oath, he was seemingly passed up for divine favor, getting no ability to smite the darkness. In a rage then, he left Forge, and set out to conquor the dark not through divine might, but through sheer martial skill. He first decided to visit the Mithral Makers to learn of their secrets.
The Mithral Makers laughed when he requested to learn their secrets of working with mithral. However, he was able to trade some trade secrets of smithing, as well as some money to obtain a suit of mithral armor, and he spent nearly a year with them.
Gethin decided to learn of the other elen, and to walk amongst them. He could not see a purpose for the Undine, but he knew there must be one, and resolved to learn it, in order to better himself.
Along his travels of Rokerenge, Gethin fought as many creatures of the dark as he could find. For as long as he could remember, he fought with the weapon the clergy had told him to use, the longsword favored by Volcano. When his sword shattered against a denizen of the dark, he panicked, and fled then, barely escaping with his life.
He realized then that the longsword did not compliment his fighting style of heavy slashing blows, and set out to make his own blade that would make him a deadlier foe to the dark. Somewhere along the way, he had abandoned his paladin's oath, and now lived by his own laws, protecting the weak, and learning of life amongst the other Elen.
After a long journey to find the perfect metal to create his blade from, he returned to his parents at Forge. It had been nearly 5 years, and it took nearly another 2 years to finish his blade. He wove runes and enchantments that he had learned from the elen that he had met into the blade, soaked it in the blood of creatures of the darkness during it's forging, and had it prayed over by members of the church to ensure that the blade would be a force for good. He named it Dyrnwyn , and when it was complete, he set off anew.
Now, he finds himself in the great city of Hearth, wishing to learn more about the elen that live there. He had heard that there was an issue of some oozes upon the volcano, in an area that was too hot for most ifrit to go, and he hoped to perhaps be of service in that regard as well.
