About Gaspar Rodriguez de Avila

Nationality: Castille
Hubris: Reckless

Backstory:

Gaspar Rodriguez de Avila, born into a very minor branch of the Avila family, has always had a deep faith in the Vaticine church. With four sisters to devour his father's meager estate in dowries, and an older brother to inherit the rest, the priesthood was a natural choice for a vocation. His superiors in the church, in their quest to enforce orthodoxy on the other nations of Théah, found that Gaspar's skills were best put to use visiting neighbors and reporting back on what he found there. His family, as well, found a few useful tidbits of political information in his letters home.

On the way back from a trip to Eisen, Gaspar visited Rancho Soldano, where, rather inconveniently, he fell in love with a young lady, Violante Rivera de Ontiveros. He peppered his superiors with excuses for extending his stay while he used his position as a priest to slowly win her affections, eventually violating his vows and her virginity. Inevitably, the two were discovered. For the sake of both their dignities, he persuaded his superiors and the Ontiveros that he hadn't seduced her at all, but had only been manipulating her to spy on them for the Avila. For this misstep, Gaspar was exiled to Vodacce.

In Vodacce, Gaspar quickly returned to his old habits. While staying in the court of Giovanni Falisci, one of his missives home was intercepted, and Giovanni offered him a choice: be executed as a spy, or remain in the Falisci court sharing his "observations" with Giovanni as well. The choice was not difficult.
