Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

As Agnes scampers off one of the Dottari grumbles not too quietly about the street vermin before the two turn heel and leave.

Perception DC 16:
"Tarmill's off tonight, he should have a chain we can put back on that for now." One says to the other as they head away.

Agnes returns after a few minutes, safe and sound. Nothing seems to have survived the fire here and two more locations are on your list.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

My apologies everyone. Right after this got started my work life got upended. My routine and free time have been shot and I want to be honest with you all so no one is hanging around here getting frustrated. I'm not sure when I can commit to steady everyday posts in the near future and think it's best if I lay things out on the table for us to decide as a group. Do you all want to put this campaign on pause, try to continue limping along, or call it and shake hands?

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

I am so so sorry for the past few months everyone! I have had some big changes to my responsibilities at work this Fall and my routine and free time are completely shot. It kills me because I really love this game and where it is going, but I don't feel confident in my near future and being able to post regularly enough.

I have a couple thoughts. We can
1) continue at a very dramatically slow pace
2) put this on pause and see what changes in the next month or so
3) call it
4) see if a GM would be interested in picking up the reigns

I don't personally have a preference nor would I be offended if you all wanted to shop for a new GM. I really just want to do right by all of you and ultimately express that the recent lack of attention is not through any malice or ill-will, but crummy life circumstances.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

The Dottari sputters, "I... I.." They look back and forth between each other then one takes a few steps forward, stopping at the gate. "Get out of there child, there must be somewhere better for you to stay. Come on, Scram."

Unfortunately with everyone already rerolling, no. Odds are in your favor though.

Two civilians with the Chelish Citizen's Group insignia approach in the dark street. An obscured figure grumbles something inaudible to them, gesturing vaguely, and then scuffles off back the way they came.

The two Citizens then continue to approach, moving down the street towards the Mansion ruins. As they near, they peer through the fence bars after noticing the forced lock.

"HEY! I see you over there, by the chimney. Get out here!" one yells in the direction of Agnes.

"You're going to have to pay for this lock!" the other chimes in.

Swirling around their target ship, the drones continue to fire off their simple coilguns.

Apologies, bad week at work.

After the sound of the lock breaking the streets echo with a few footsteps that trail off down the cobblestone.

As a group, the Silver Ravens are all on high alert with the pulse of the city close at hand tonight. Searching through the charred remains for a few minutes gives you all the impression that there is little here to be recovered. The rains have made the sunken site into a pit of mud mixed with ash. The majority of what is poked through is destroyed structural beams and underneath are fragments of singed and ruined furniture.

After five minutes of stealth-looting, the sound of foot steps return to the air. First softly, but steadily growing on the cobblestones and sounding like they're headed toward the old mansion grounds.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Making maneuvers for the bot is great, thanks.
The drones attempt to close in, one leaving itself open in the SPK's front arc!

Zoso aids in Beshtori's attempted ruse, wishing he had a cigarette to further the act. "Sounds like a lot of people in there. Do you think this is a 'head of the snake' thing or more of a 'burn it down'?" he asks, not immediately remembering Besh's affinity to fire. "Huh, just might be your day."

In agreement, you all wait for dusk before suiting up and heading out into the city. A light rain fell during the day, giving the air cool and cutting breeze. Making your way to the Victocora estate, the large iron gates still stand untouched around the mansion's grounds.

Within is a unsettling image that would seem more fitting in a larger of Hell. The charred ruins pierce into the cloudy night sky like hands grasping for help in desperation. The stained monoliths, half crumbled towers of brick and massive timber beams now covered in the scales of intense heat exposure, glisten slightly from the day's rain. Hiding in the shadows outside the gate, only the deep darkness of the collapsed structure lies between these shapes, undoubtedly the ashes of the once great mansion and those who perished with it.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Sunnee's shot arcs even wider this time, winking out into the dark abyss of space.

I've moved the two drones already, someone of the group can feel free to move your ship. Should be pretty easy to get an advantageous position.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Rexus lets out a tired laugh, "I know, right? They're not even trying. Just slapping Kintargo in the face as if no one will chanllenge them." The grin sinks into a scowl, then he shakes it off. "I assume you know where all these places are, but let me know if you need anything. I'll be here transcribing these documents you found in the old Silver Raven's hideout and waiting some word of discovery."

Carl, nothing new learned, but you recall the same as the others and can verify their knowledge.

Where to?

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Meanwhile Shralnaxath charges the thrusters and the ship begins vibrating under everyone's seats.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Putting their heads together, the Pale Knight, Fiend, and Nightmare Beast are able to piece out that the Silver Star was a music store owned by a half-elf woman named Shensen, herself an outspoken critic of Thrune. Furthermore, they collectively remember that there are rumored to be chambers below the music store serving as a shrine to Sarenrae. Pertaining to the Thrashing Badger, all that they can produce is that it was reputed to be a favorite watering hole for the rebellious cult of Milani.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Rexus enters the Nest and slaps a piece of paper with three names on it down onto the wooden table. "During the Night of Ashes, three buildings mysteriously burned to the ground. No one’s saying it out loud, but the general consensus is that these three buildings were specifically targeted by Barzillai Thrune as dens of sedition. I've searched the ruins of my home several times already, but had to flee from dottari patrols each time before I was able to get far. At the minimum, if you could help me with closure it would be appreciated, but I think there is more going on here. My parents were part of the Sacred Order of Archivists, and I suspect that they were targeted by Thrune’s agents for this reason. What I don't understand is how hte other two locations factor in." He looks like he has slept little, with bags under his red eyes.

The paper reads
Victocora estate
Thrashing Badger tavern
Silver Star

Carl is unable to discern the value of the items, only that they are individually worth no more than 1000gp.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Even with their captain's encouragement, Sunnee's shot arcs just over the enemies bow!

Looking monk or ranger now. Wanting to get away from the divine character a little more than the warpriest would allow. A maneuver monk maybe. Just starting to read over ranger.

I'm thinking Vivs zeal didn't tranfer to the Oread. Instead he's found great kinship to nature and thinks of himself as the lands protector through blood.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Quiet whispers can be heard and the air of anticipation can be felt while walking the eerily quiet streets. Townsfolk have slowly begun to mingle again in the main thoroughfares, but only to a degree and for a short moment before fleeing indoors again. Though, little by little signs of bravery begin to show in the populace, most evidently by how you each are casually confronted during your day's "normal" events. Some by a vague acquaintance, and others by a trusted friend; but each speak a variation of the same message with the same feelings. "Apparently people are meeting in their cellars at night, people tired of this Thrune business. Now I don't know anything about it, just some rumor I heard while about this morning, but do you think it holds much truth?"

The dangerous question always hangs in the damp air like a guillotine blade on execution day. Glorion seems to stop spinning as you take the moment to process this. The person talking to you is luckily easy to read, their eyes are filled with a mixture of desperation and hope. They seem to be conflicted between their own fears and patriotism, having at last come to you because of some minor knowledge or suspicion.

Of the 11 new followers, 6 of them are named with one being someone connected to each of you. I was thinking a cousin of Adun's, a client of Conrads, an Bellflower contact of Agnes', Brianna's friend Sark, a colleague from Darius' studies, and a Rose of Kintargo contact of Reynard's. If you have thoughts feel free to bring them up. I also thought you all might have fun naming them and giving them a little more history with your backstories than the connection above. If not, no worries, I can easily fill in what I need as I need it!

Returning to Laria's the next day, you find the Fushi sisters down in the Wasp's Nest. One of the younger sisters seems to be frustrated and in a mood, matched by a darkening black eye. "We, had pretty crap luck to be honest," Korva starts, "Maggie didn't know of the dottari, yet. Went straight up to one and said we'd oughta pitch Thrune out with the morning pot. We all got off the street alright and burnt our trail for about an hour, but nothing to offer from it."

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Cool cool, change has been made. The old outcomes aren't changed by this detail so the prior rebellion phases stand. I'll put together a flavorful post on that happened this week in rebellion as everyone sorts out their downtime and the loot.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

10-4, Aquila has no filter ;)

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

That's 3 for Secrecy, any passionate objections?

Aquila:
Muscle memory pays off as you easily cut into the ship's data systems. '....10010101001001...12A38B49C0D019F...Tiny racer drone, no crew, Speed 12, and perfect maneuverability. Power core 50, AC 15, TL 15, 20 HP, and no shields.'

As Shralnaxath juices the ship's engines, Choo Lain can feel ample power at their finger tips.

Piloting check is left, Captain can still go whenever.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

I'll push with a putting check on Monday if need be, have good cons and weekends!

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Phase 1—Upkeep Phase:
Roll to determine supporter attrition. You lose additional supporters if your Notoriety score is 100 or your rebellion treasury is below its minimum.

Upkeep:

Step 1—Supporter Attrition: Attempt a DC 10 Loyalty check. On a successful check, the rebellion only loses 1d6 supporters. If the check is a natural 20, the rebellion instead gains 1d6 supporters. On a failed check, the rebellion loses a number of supporters equal to 2d4 + the rebellion’s rank.
Loyalty check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 DC 10
Success?: 1d6 ⇒ 3 -supporters

Step 2—Notoriety Maximum: If your Notoriety score is 100, Thrune agents take action to round up and execute suspected supporters on trumped-up charges. This reduces both the rebellion’s supporters and Kintargo’s population by an amount equal to 1d20 + the rebellion’s rank.
Nope!

Step 3—Treasury Shortage: If the rebellion’s treasury is below its minimum during Upkeep phase, the rebellion loses a number of supporters equal to 2d4 + the rebellion’s rank.
Nope!

Step 4—Increase Rank: Apply any adjustments to the rebellion’s rank due to increased supporters from the previous week. This is the point at which the rebellion “levels up.” It’s possible, particularly in the early stages of the rebellion, to gain more than one rank if fortune has granted the Silver Ravens an unusually large increase in supporters since the previous Upkeep phase.
Current Supporters: 0
Supporter Goal: 10

Step 5—Deposits and Withdrawals: Any rebellion officer can deposit or withdraw any amount of gold from or to the rebellion’s treasury.
Anyone wish to add funds?

----------
Phase 2—Activity: Perform rebellion actions, up to the maximum number allowed by the Silver Ravens’ current rank.
Activity:

Current Number of Actions: 2
Action 1: Gather Information (Fushi Sisters)
Security DC15: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 = 8
Notoriety Increase: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Action 2: Recruit Supporters
Loyalty DC10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Supporters Gained: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5) + 1 = 11

All spoilers are public for Rebellions rolls, just an organization thing. Let me know if something looks off! Rebellion sheet has been updated for these results.

Carl Conrad Copperplate wrote:
Oh, can we assign Rexus and Laria to be recruiters too?

I believe you can not, but if I see something otherwise I'll mention it.

What's the rebellion's current focus? Secrecy, Loyalty, or Security?

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Rexus begins shuffling through the papers, "I'll get a start on these after I get you the information you need to get going on the Night of Ashes. I should have things organized by tomorrow if that's alright?"

Items found in the Wasp's nest:
A gold holy symbol of Calistria
A +1 whip
A pair of daredevil boots
Three copper bracelets
One silver locket with the elven rune for "mother"
One Harrow deck
Two crates of fine embroidered Varisian clothing
Nan's personal notes
Nan's Ledger
72gp
One alabaster holy symbol of Abadar

Everyone has a day of downtime to use as desired, then Rexus will be at the Coffeehouse awaiting you.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

That's for putting that together, Brianna! And I think the Fiend is the Strategist in your setup.

Some great news is that you already have one Unique team, the Fushi sisters! They function as a specialized group that grants the Earn Gold and the Gather Information rebellion actions. At the current rebellion level, you can make two actions. Let me know what they are and we'll roll it up!

Things you can do with the two actions:
Earn Gold
Gather Information
Recruit Supporters
Recruit Team (what which type of team you'd like to attempt for)

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Sounds good, have fun!

Let's get the officers decided and run the first week of rebellion. There isn't any personal gain from the positions, so is everyone on board with placing people in the most adventageous places?

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Aquila:
The scanners whirl and data spills before you. There are two automated crafts closing in. They are of the same tiny make and model, but neither are anything you have ever seen in the Pact Worlds or Vast before.

Dyellow: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Oh we're live, Engineering and Helm phases!

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Beautiful! Thank you!

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Rexus nods in agreement too, "Rumors, indeed, and whisperings of hope. There is a lot of fallout from the past few weeks that we need to respond to as well. All of these documents need to be decoded, and I think that investigating the fires from the Night of Ashes may help us in understanding what Thrune is really doing under the surface." Rexus paces a bit, tapping his lower lip with a finger.

Laria speaks up as Rexus thinks, "If a statement is something you really wish to make, nothing speaks like striking back. If we could free some of those captured and imprisoned by Thrune that's be a sign of strength and add voice to our new chorus."

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Reaching your exit in the Drift, you all brace for the transition back into Material space. With the twisting light around you and the shuddering of your patchwork vessel, the video screens and windows suddenly shift from the kaleidoscopic purple Drift back to the black void of familiar star speckled space. Before you sits the green and cloudy orb of Nakondis.

Deftly entering orbit around Nakondis the navigation screen begins to populate with entry and telemetry data for your delivery to Madelon’s Landing. However, he deck is bathed in red lights as the ship’s sensors immediately activate in alert!

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

In the Player's Guide there is a set of game rules for operating and building a rebellion. We're at the point where they can optionally come into play!

Having run some of Kingmaker by PbP, these additional minigame rulesets are fun but can really slow things down RP wise. So first off, I'm wondering where everyone stands on them.

If you choose not to, nothing in the campaign will be lost. I'll simply run it to a minor extent on the side for narrative direction. We don't need total agreement either, a few interested parties can operate the rebellion on the side pretty easily. Also, like any ruleset I think we can run it rules light as well.

So! How interested is everyone in digging into the minigame of managing the rebellion? And the heavy version, light, or GM mode?

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Rexus is somewhat surprised by the news, "Seriously?! Just below our feet we had a crocodile, murdering Corby, and outlaw family of Tengu?!" He moves to get Laria from up front and repeats the story for her.

Her response is less expressive. She shakes her head sadly at the news of Nan, "He was a good one, our efforts will feel his loss. We're lucky though to apparently grow by four so quickly. Let's all head down there and speak with them. We have some things to sort out.”

Back down in the Wasps’ Nest, Laria idly motions to the filthy conditions of the cellar, ”Rexus, can you help our new guests with tidying this up today?” The fallen noble responds by prestidigitatizing some cobwebs out of his way as you all re-enter the dock area.

”It’s hard to believe, but I suspect that we’re looking at the largest coordinated effort of rebellion in Kintargo. It is my pleasure to offer this as your new home, once it’s cleaned up it’d be a perfect base of operations. Spacious, and the water way there connects to the sewer system for concealed access to the city. So, what are your first actions as Silver Ravens?”

Rexus clears away the blood smears on the stone floor as Laria speaks and kneels down beside Nan’s body.

We have officially entered our first phase of rebellion! I’ll post information on the rebellion rules in the discussion, but they can also be found in the Player's Guide. My plan is to add some sheets to the top of the thread today as well for rebellion tracking as well.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

"Fiend," Korva replies with a curt nod. As the wisdom of secrecy is discussed the tengu chimes in, "I would like to keep my sisters in animinity as well then. You can refer to us four as the Fushi sisters."

Korva is otherwise largely silent as she and Cough watch each other and contemplate their relationship and fates. When all but Brianna have left Korva kneels before the bound Corby. (Undercommon)"You have done too much, repeatedly and without remorse. You understand what I must do, that you've put us at odds here. Why do you keep refusing to stop this? Why can't you just be a good little bird like the rest of us?"

The corby snaps it's beak, (Undercommon)"I am good. Nan was in our way, and back home we would have been better off with the money if you'd just let me finish what I had started. Let me out of here if this is how you'll be, I'll leave the city and we can go our separate ways."

Korva shakes her head, (Undercommon)"I'd be responsible for all the pain you'd continue to cause then. I can't trust you again, Cough, you never really were one of us. We thought we had found a baby tengu, and even though we've treated you as one of us, you won't let go of the damn corby in you. I've seen you after you've tasted blood, you become enthralled by it."

(Undercommon)"Let me earn my life, untie me. Give me a fighting chance at least. You and me, Korva." The corby looks to Brianna then, trying influence her over Korva. "(Undercommon)I deserve that.."

(Undercommon)"I'm sorry, you've fought too much already."

(Undercommon)”..I deserve to decide my fate! F@$@ you Korva, I should have killed you four and come here alone. What lies did fil.." The corby is cut off by the handle of Korva's knife striking it in the head and slumps over unconscious. Korva sighs and starts dragging Cough towards the water to finish the execution.

Meanwhile..
Exiting the Wasp’s Nest, the five of you find yourselves back in the private sitting room on the main floor. Rexus is alone and sitting across the table from the trap door. The table is full of book, scrolls, inks, stylus’, and loose parchment sheets. ”That was quick, any excitement?” He casually asks while shuffling a new piece of parchment into his view.

I'll put together what was found in the Wasps Nest.

"Even before she killed Nan in cold blood and got us stranded here, she caused the trouble that made us need to flee like this. Show me to her, please," she asks with an unsure weight in her voice.

Blue Thorn:
She seems to be telling the truth, but is emotionally still preparing for what she has to do.

As she walks with you to where Chough is held, she tells the group, "Thank you for your support in this, I know it is not the easiest of topics. You do not need to stay for it, my sisters and I can handle it respectfully. All I ask is that you send down supplies in a little while, food and things to start cleaning this place up."
